This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
Yeah, I know, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let some shitposting morons push me out of the only decent cross-brand watch discussion forum on the internet.
If the guy from a couple of threads ago who was being lazy about having to research vintage Omegas is around, let me know if you saw my infodump on the subject or if I need to cross-post the info.
Xavier Morris
Does the second hand on that thing actually hit all the markers exactly?

Fucking Ukrainians RRREEE what have they been doing whole day
"For the guy interested in vintage Omegas from earlier, you mentioned you were interested in an old Constellation, by which I assume you mean you want one from Omega's golden age in the 1960s.
I suggest you read this page ( ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&&2uswk&Omega_564 ) and familiarize yourself with all the variants of the Omega 56x movement, as that movement is the best three hand movement developed by Omega in the pre-quartz period, and is one of the greatest series produced movement families of the pre-quartz era period.
You can search for these models on eBay or Yahoo! Japan Auctions fairly easily by searching for "Omega ###" with the movement variant you want to look for, but please make sure you familiarize yourself with how most of Omega's Constellation range from the period looked and check the vintage Omega database ( omegawatches.com/vintage-watches/ ) for the case references, where they are listed (e.g. the 168.024/168.0024 is a vintage Seamaster reference with a chronometer grade 564 movement) and make sure you are not looking at a franken or a redial before you consider bidding.
Expect to pay ~$350-$500 for a non-chronometer variant if you are patient, $500 - $750 for a chronometer variant if you are patient. "

There are lots of redials and frankens around of most vintage watches because its so easy to make money pleb-catching those who don't do their research.
Some basic ground rules are to avoid any sellers in Southeast Asia except Japan, NEVER EVER EVER buy anything listed from India, avoid listings with images like pic related with stock backgrounds and obvious re-polishing, and if you have decent risk tolerance, seriously consider looking on Yahoo! Japan Auctions.
Otherwise, you can use the model numbers to google other images of it to check for correct looks, and you can try the vintage Omega database also.
Huh, I think this means we now have representatives of most of the great pre-quartz production mechanical watchmakers here: Hamilton, Eterna, Omega, Girard Perregaux, Rolex and Seiko.
I got it off Etsy, it's actually a really decent place to get old soviet watches, I don't think the hipster girls on there know what they're selling. It runs really well, it's a pretty loud ticker and I'm sure it loses a few seconds every day, but I enjoy it. The hand on the subdial also must have been scraping against the dial, since there's this section scraped into the bottom, but it doesn't seem to do that anymore now that I have it.

>tfw roadmapping my collection and probably will end up with up to 12 pieces not including my separate Casio collection/addiction.

It’s for diving times
Isaac Russell
it’s satans watch, user, and I’m sorry, but your collection is horrible. Mine is too, that’s why I won’t post it until I’ll refine it
Ryder Collins
The Swatch movement is loud as fuck, it's easily as loud as a Timex. I have pic related and if I don't put it in the watch box it keeps me awake.
You're not supposed to spend all the money you earn. You can save money.
Lucas Ramirez
Spending money on watches when you live with your parents. You are the Archie of the future.
Justin Miller
What?
Dominic Stewart
bro
Benjamin Carter
I mean, I do the same thing, but I hardly spend a fraction on watches compared to savings.
Justin Rodriguez
It's fine to spend money on a watch when you live with your parents, just not BIG money. You shouldn't be wearing a high-end luxury model if you don't live on your own, but there's no reason he can't wear a nice diver or something that costs a couple hundred.
Jaxon Morris
You act like a few hundred bucks here and there is really going to change anyone's living situation. If you don't have the income for that, it's just not possible. Paying rent out of savings is pants-on-head retarded
Carson Kelly
Can you post a detailed shot of the dial and hands. Thank you.
Aiden Sanchez
How old are you guys?
Nice collection senpai, why do you got so many similar casios though?
Adrian Peterson
maybe invest in an education my man

>Not learning to be a watchmaker
For fucks sake, Jow Forums
Colton Phillips
Uh, ok? You do know that college != instant income to be able to afford to live on your own, right?
The case is dog shit. Cheap painted plastic. You can take the back off with a finger nail.
Grayson Edwards
Kek As you would expect from Casio
Kevin James
>why do you got so many similar casios though? OCD, I had a compulsion to get as many similar Casios as I could find for cheap.
Juan Powell
Old enough that I've moved out and moved back in with my parents. I could leave right now, but I worry about them, so I plan to stick around till they get sick of me, or the GF insists on getting our own place.
Without going into details that you assholes can nitpick apart, I make a bit more than the median wage, and I'd have to cash out about 40-60% of that for a one person shithole. I live in the third world, I make $800 a month, and the rent for such a place would be about $350 to $450, depending on how run down it is.
The globemaster is an oversized, overpriced, hilariously bad non color matched date wheel abomination and you should gas yourself for considering one.
Wyatt Morgan
wtf does nubile mean in this context? is it some kind of pervert code word?
Dylan Howard
I already have in this thread.
David Sanders
Semi related but before I actually got into watches had pic related for about a year. The plastic crystal got scratched to shit but was fine. Problem occurred when I caught the strap on something while at work and the spring bar ripped through the hole in the plastic lug, which fucked up the place you put the springbars so it was unwearable.
