Facebook can't see your real IP, so you might be around the world as far as they know, but everything they already know about you they still know about you. It doesn't hide your identity or contacts or anything. Using FB over Tor does, however, give you privacy against your ISP. Your ISP (or whoever's running that shady free wi-fi) won't be able to see that you're even visiting facebook, let alone what you're doing there. This isn't useless, the obvious case is if you're in some oppressive shithole country that tries to ban facebook.
