Linux Font Rendering

Can someone name a single Linux distro or DE with good out of the box font rendering?

Pro-tip: You can't.

Impossible.

Yes decent font rendering on Linux is impossible.

>Shit font rendering
You're thinking of Microsoft Windows.

Fedora.

is infinality the way to go?

OK, this is a bit better. Not quite as obvious a troll.

Correct.

To me latest Ubuntu LTS renders fonts just fine. Can you post some examples where it fails compared to W10 or macOS?

Between these two images, can you:

1. Tell a difference in the font rendering?
2. If so, which is better in your opinion?

Not sure what you mean by this OP, my fonts look fine, but if you have a problem with the font rendering compared to the way microsoft does things, you can directly blame them for this: freetype.org/patents.html

First one has, I dunno, fuzzy?-er sub pixels. Or softer or fainter or something.
Second is better.

>Tell a difference in the font rendering?
Yes
>which is better in your opinion?
The first one, by far.

First one is default font rendering in KDE Neon.
Second one is with the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package installed.

sounds about right

Geckolinux

Right slide looks slightly better.

it uses the same font rendering engine

Latter has slightly higher contrast which I like better.

Right one has higher contrast which I like better.

I think the difference is negligible. I prefer high contrast up to "color: #000" level while some seem to like dark gray.

Every normie distro has excellent font rendering out of the box.

And the best thing about it is that Windows font rendering is absolute shit. Looking at text in the standard 12 point Times New Roman physically hurts. Also the only mechanism to tune ClearType looks more like a Skinner Box than anything else.
Basically, if you're ever stuck using Windows save yourself the pain and turn on at least 125% upscaling. Your eyes will be grateful.
