Anyone?

What model? Do you still get video out of the VGA or HDMI?

>x201i

Enjoy your low-power CPU

i want to kiss this user

Its a T61 not sure about the other part. Could it be that Windows is not right for it? I assume its putting strain on the memory

Meant to type Windows 8

What model should I get if I want:
Long enough battery life (7 hours or so)
Good enough screen (14-16 inches)
Nice keyboard, or at least swappable

I wont do any gaymen on it. Mainly Ill just use it for some programming, linguistics and fiddling arround with linux.

>T61
Nvidia gpu?

Been having problems with the track pad on my X220, would it be difficult to replace it?

Foegot to mention, my budget is anything below 500. I dont thin thisll be needed though, since what Im asking for is rather simple.

Thinkpad X260 i5 6th gen

CPU: I5-6300U 2.4GHZ
RAM: 8GB DDR3 PC3L
HD: 512 GB SSD

It needs some work
New cmos battery, heavy cleaning and re painting, new battery
But that processor...

Attached: IMG_0009.jpg (4032x3024, 3.23M)

I just bought a T430 for 350 bucks. Was it worth it? It's using i7-3520M

I've got a thinkpad X200. My speakers don't seem to be working, as well as the headphone and microphone jacks. The right side USB port isn't working as well. Are these things fixable, or should I get another device?

can I swap the processor from a x230 to a t420?

swap Intel i5-2540M (4) @ 3.300GHz to Intel i7-3520M (4) @ 3.600GHz

I was interested on libreboot and was looking for a x200 long enough to become desperate, so I got mine as soon as I found it on eBay.
Also, I'm a brainlet.

So sorry for late response, Intel 965

did it say it was broken because if not then try getting some of your money back.
nice. how feminine is your penis?
i got it for aliexpress for $25. looks brand new`

it isnt veiny and always clean shaven

Yeah they said it was broken, I didn't mind then since the other two USB ports worked just fine. It's still not really a deal breaker, but I would like to fix it if possible.

Yes it's fixable, but the amount of time and money you gonna put in into fixing that thing is probably cost more than what you paid for, peter

Thanks for the rec, but the screen is too small. I'd like at least a 14-inch.

what is the x-series equivalent of the T440p?
is there such thing as a X240p?

Attached: 1476887840816.png (357x368, 108K)

T420?

That /might/ rule out the gpu. The T6x nvidia gpus shit themselves eventually. If you feel adept, check the ribbon that connects the lcd to the motherboard.

x is ultrabook

If I disable the T430's NVS 5400M GPU from the BIOS settings, will the GPU still consume energy and produce heat or will really be turned off?

This is my first laptop with a dedicated GPU and I really don't see a need to having it on this laptop as I mainly use Linux and the weeb games that I play through Wine and VMs work fine with the integrated HD 4000.

I'm going to do install a quad core CPU so I don't want the GPU taking battery life and cooling that the CPU could benefit from.

nice bro where do i meet yuo?

how much did you pay for it?

I've looked at some, but all I can find only have batteries that last from 1 to 3 hours. How much does a 9 cell battery last?

Most batteries that are OEM for it would be worn out.
The only option is finding a chink battery, or see if there are people that will make a new battery for you

Wall?

Attached: 1454538826026.gif (354x354, 620K)

Thanks, Ill check out the internals again. I swear however this could be the laptop crashing because it becomes completely unresponsive on a black screen. Im hoping it isnt. Have any other ideas?

Welll could it be that running win8 is too much for it to handle on a 4gb ram core 2 duo setup?

I have a similar setup, but use W10, I don't think that would be why.

I should also add that running a browser such as FF TSR cause the T61 to consume a lot of memory. It states that its currently using 2gb of the 4gb Ram installed, any way to allocate more?

Going to take it apart again, recently did so to clean off dirt beneath the plastic covers.

Been looking for a new laptop. I was thinking about getting a newish P series that was refurbished and then upgrading the components but today at costco there was a fully loaded X1 carbon for 1600 USD. 16gb memory 512gb ssd i7 8550U
really felt like jumping for it
also can't you get a similarly spec'd desktop for less than 1600?

Attached: 1456316435448.jpg (343x317, 60K)

>pic related: average thinkpad user

Attached: smart.png (534x464, 157K)

I currently have an Acer Spin that I got in 2016. It has an i7-6500U, 2.6GHz 12 GB of RAM and I don't gayme so I don't need a ludicrous graphics card. I got this one from Costco back in 2016 for about three hundred dollars.

Can somebody explain to me why the fuck I'd spend three times that much in current year + 3 for a Thinkpad with markedly worse specs in EVERY category? 768p? Is this 2010?

y-you too

What's the best way to go about installing the various drivers and software on a clean install on one of these machines (t520 and t530)? I've done this in the past with other branded laptops, but am having a problem sifting through all of them. I've always been confused as to why, for example, when you look at the wireless card drivers there's always multiple drivers for one model of laptop. Also for some reason their website is being a piece of shit. Why is it when I click on an entry it doesn't fucking expand the entry? It'll do it randomly, but I can't figure out how or why. What the fuck am I missing?

Attached: DYbRy4JVMAEHGKf.jpg (1028x928, 118K)

Lenovo System Update

I've considered this, but those type of utilities have been notoriously shitty in the past when ever I've tried to use them. Fucking up installs etc.

>that keyboard

Attached: ahegao-57b7f3a6b970d.jpg (900x900, 143K)

probably useless to ask here but would 1600 be a good deal

Does a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 come with an ethernet and/or wifi driver for a X230/T430?
Windows 10 does and this makes it easy to run Lenovo System Update as soon as possible so I'm curious if it's a similar case with 7.

I haven't noticed or tried with the t520/530, but I am guessing it doesn't. But there is an icon for the ethernet port on a fresh install. Maybe generic drivers work for it, or Win7 has the proper ones in the repository.

Lenovo System Update is great if you're stuck using Windows. You can batch install all drivers on a clean install or update previously installed ones when newer versions are released. LSU also correctly identifies your ThinkPad's model and components and it gives you the software that you actually need and saves you from the agony of having to second guess what stuff to download from Lenovo's shitty support website.
LSU also offers BIOS and hardware firmware updates for your specific ThinkPad configuration.

How is Linux support on w530?

Laptops are so uncomfortable to use compared to a huge desktop set up. I don't know how you girls do it.

ethernet usually werks out of the box with most pcs afaik

I wouldn't mind if it installed a generic driver for the ethernet port as long as it worked and I could connect to the internet to run LSU. Would try figuring it out myself but I can't do a clean install at the moment as I haven't made backups of my current setup.

Just got my X220 today, what are some things I can do with it besides installing Gentoo and installing a modded BIOS to remove HW whitelist?

Attached: IMG_20180414_000937124.jpg (3264x1836, 3.64M)

Ok, great to know. I've always been wary of those utilities because they've never worked properly for me in the past. And it needs net frame 4.0 to work. I guess if it fucks up i can just reinstall windows again lol. Do you know if it also install the chipset and if it would be best to run the utility first before windows update?

It does with Windows 10 and 99% of Linux distros but I really don't know if this is the case too when installing 7 on a xx30 model.

Ok, I am not going to get to it tonight as I am about to leave, but I'll let you know if it works from a fresh install of Win7 SP1 sometime tomorrow or the next day if someone hasn't already answered your question.

windows 10 has 0 advantages over 7 regarding drivers or anything at all, if it works on 10 it works on 7

Attached: step2.gif (1048x800, 48K)

get lost geezer

man up before you end up killing yourself

Well, this is a first party solution offered by Lenovo itself with the purpose of getting hundreds of enterprise-issued machines up and running as soon as possible so you can rest assured that this is a good as it can possibly get when it comes to installing drivers on a ThinkPad under Windows.

Having a .NET 4.0 requirement to use it is only an issue for clean installs of Windows 7 SP1 as it only comes with 3.5 preinstalled but it's something that can be easily remedied by getting the 4.7.1 runtime installer from here microsoft.com/net/download/all and installing it before running LSU for the first time.

And yes, LSU does offer the drivers for the chipset and I would advise you on running LSU before Windows Update just so you can make use of your machine's full performance during the 2+ hours that it takes for WU to install all the latest updates while making your CPU run at 100% in the process.

Some people work for a living :^)

>tfw got this for 90 bucks

Attached: Screenshot_20180414_002747.png (799x341, 18K)

Yeah, I'm a criminal so I don't have to go outside much. I used to, though, and even then I just never found a laptop very comfortable.
Do you use it at home as well? I bought a thinkpad thinking it would be super comfy to use around the house but I've had it for 2 years now and used it maybe 3 times.

Install mSata SSD and intel-microcode package + Intel driver using their official installer.

Wasn't trying to upsell W10 to anyone, just explained how 10 does install network drivers for most ThinkPad models that are able to run it.
In fact, I'm the one asking if 7 does the same on clean installs as I want to "upgrade" from 10 to 7 on my T430.
Already have a legit 7 Ultimate key in hand and I'm ready to spend the remaining 2 years of it's support life in happiness.

How do I expand the battery life of my t420 the most?

>linux
let me guess: you're a virgin.

Why the fuck are you on this board if you're just going to act like you're to cool for all this shit?
