Does anyone feel monitors bigger than 27" are too big for desktop use?
Does anyone feel that 1440p on a 27" monitor is slightly too big?
I wish there were 2240x1260 monitors instead!

1440p 24'' master race.

4k 24-27" is a nice median. Small enough you wont see the pixels, not annoyingly massive and awkward to carry.

but windows has horrible scaling, I'm using 1440p on 27" and it's alright but sometimes it feels small.

It really doesn't though.

4k at 32inch is master race tier. 27 inch looks is screenlet tier beside it.

I love my 47''1080p. Sitting ~2 feet away it fills my field of vision perfectly and text is sharp as fuck and easy to read. I could never use my 23'' 2048x1152 secondary monitor as a primary.

Can I ask for recs here? Don't really know what to look for other than 1080 and 60hz. I just want to play games and not get suckered into "gaming monitors".

I'm stuck between getting a 24" and a 27" 4k (3840 x 2160) monitor. I don't want to see pixels and I don't care about Windows shitty DPI scaling since I know it will get better in future updates and I like the idea of being able to lower the resolution down to 1080 or 1440 for resource intensive games if I'm doing gaming.

Help me out here Jow Forums and give me some of your useful "advice" I've been surprised before.

I have an old laptop panel that I want to set up as an extra monitor for IRC and stuff, what's the cheapest way to do this?

saying your monitor is too big is like saying your wife is too hot or too loyal.

not true, a monitor can be too big for the space you have

Sure if you're retarded and don't know what pixel density is.

can someone recommend a small, cheap monitor with DVI for use as a second display? Just for text, no games.

Definitely the 27", 4k is kind of pointless on smaller screens

What's the most important thing in a monitor for displaying very sharp text. Ideally possible to either scale up or use a native resolution where it's not absolutely tiny.

Won't be playing any vidya or doing any photo/video editing. Not having backlight bleed is nice, but I don't care about color correctness for example.

who else here acer xb271hu 1440p 27"

Dell 2417H is pretty good. My friend like Benq better if you want to consider other brand.

I have a 43" 4k, would never ever go back to a smaller monitor.

thoughts on ultrawides? thinking of picking up an LG 34uc80

>34uc80
75Hz and AMD FreeSync

I have 2 27" 4K screens, I think they're pretty great. I wouldn't recommend 4K at 24" unless you're going to have a very, very small viewing distance. No scaling (as in 100%) on 4K 27" is readable for me at around 60cm viewing distance, I imagine 24" would be too small. The DPI is great at 27" as well, not to mention that having a larger monitor is simply nicer.

32" 1440p or 4k is perfect

32" is the ideal size which everyone should have

>thoughts on ultrawides
amazing for games/movies

literally not supported for 80% of the games out there and it'll look stretched or with black bars, and there aren't that many movies made in 21:9

ur a retard

there are tools to fix alot of games for example flawless widescreen and pretty much all blue-ray rips are in 21:9. you are the retard here

Kill yourself nigger most games support it and most movies are filmed in 2.39:1 which is what a 21:9 monitor actually is, 21:9 is just a marketing term.
T. Owns a 35 inch 1440p ultrawide

>Does anyone feel monitors bigger than 27" are too big for desktop use?
No.
-t 32"

~40-43" 8K would be poifect.

It will ruin some media for you, going back to 16:9 content such as YouTube and tv shows after experiencing 21:9 is like going back to 4:3 after using 16:9

>he has to use tools to stretch out applications and other stupid shit

maybe don't waste your money on garbage

3x4k 27" is, in my opinion, a pretty good choice for a desktop. I really don't think it's "too big". 24" just seems too small after having used 27" for a long time. Haven't tried 32" but it seems a bit big, perhaps it's fine if you limit yourself to one monitor.

Then install a real OS, it's your fault that you're using some garbage that can't into scaling.

Look for IPS or IPS-style technology like PLS or AHVA. You absolutely do not want to buy a TN panel. If it doesn't say what kind of panel it is then it's probably TN.

I personally really do not like ultrawide for general desktop use. A web page scrolls up and down, not sideways. It is totally worth getting a ultrawide for a HTPC that will primarily be (ab)used for watching movies. Totally worth it.

I look forward to 8k 43" monitors. Then the DPI will make it look extra nice.

Are Asus monitors as bad as people say they are?

I bought a PG279Q and it was DOA. Got an acer XB271HU instead and never been happier (aside from a dead pixel in the middle of the screen)

it appears most high-end monitors of the current gen are shit and have quality control issues.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going for a BenQ that has the same specs, but it a tad cheaper.

>2560x1600
>16:10
>IPS with fantastic colours
>tons of inputs
Why dont you own a U3011 user?

Attached: OriginalJPG.jpg (504x350, 22K)

I have an Asus PB287Q. The monitor is reliable and works fine, but the colours are awful. I recently upgraded to a 2560x1600 , which is lower resolution, but a way better aspect ration and way better colours.

what's so bad about TN panels? Ive been using the same 1080p TN panel for like 10 years now and want to upgrade to 1440p for gayming.
Is it just viewing angles and response times, or am i missing something? If so, i dont mind shit viewing angles because I already have a separate HTPC, and only want a new monitor for my gaming set up.
also is g-sync worth a shit, or just gaming marketing garbage that isnt actually a big deal.

>Does anyone feel monitors bigger than 27" are too big for desktop use?
Not really. I have a 50inch 4K that I bought for games, but desktopping on it at 125% is not inconvenient.

I sit monitor at monitor distance to this thing so this is about as absurd an example as you're gunna get.

Attached: 20180120_020503_001_02.jpg (4032x3024, 1.82M)

The price point really isn't much of a factor anymore between TN/IPS, so the only reason you would get a TN over an IPS is if you're a competitive FPS player and NEED sub-ms response times, or if backlight glow somehow makes you ree even harder than shit viewing angles do.

>still no new monitors
>same panels from 2015 being over used with different revisions, still the same shit with same problems
>dead pixels everywhere
>backlight bleed
>awful popped out color
>inverse ghosting everywhere

why

why is it that my 24" TN 144hz 1080p monitor from 2011 is flawless and IPS monitors haven't catched up yet? what the FUCK

Bought an asus pg279q a year ago and its in perfect condition still.
Thought i'd try a dell(S2418HX) for a 2nd monitor, came in perfect and a week later already a dead pixel in the middle of the screen.

>pb287q
that's a piece of shit TN screen
fuck that shit
>4k TN
what a fucking waste of resources, godfucking dammit this should be illegal

This is a fucking steal, other equivalents are an extra $170

just say 8:5

25-27" is my limit. Any bigger and I need to either mount shit to the wall or get a bigger desk.

4k 24" with 200% windows scaling is very comfy, really nice high dpi and games playing at 1080p scale really well and so does 1440p but 1440p does look a little blurry. The blurriness would be more noticable on larger 4k monitors

because it has lower PPI than my 24" 1440p. i've accepted the death of 16:10, as painful as it is

1920x1200 or 1920x1440 is probably the most comfy to work with.
But I've also gotten used to the screen real estate of 2560x1440 so whatever. It's not like I can go back now.

How do people use HDTVs as monitors and not have their eyes bleed? Even on top TV models, it still looks bad.

>1:1

that's bullshit, i can tolerate 5:4, but our eyes does have a horizontal focus. 16:10 for me, 1920x1200 check. 16:9 is popular because of it saving production costs. Not compared to 16:10, but to 5:4. you could make the same inch diameter (Fucking retarded American measurement) with a lot less material when doing 16:9.

21:9 is for toddlers, but if you only ever play Call of Duty, that's okay with me.

I have 2(ish). I also have the xf270hua which is the Freesync varient, that way I'm not locked to either manufacturer.

What would be a better setup for productivity?
3x1440p 27" or 2x2160p 32" monitors?

Need the best 27 inch 4K monitor with vesa mount capability ND a glossy panel. Brand, free/gsync, and price are all secondary concerns.

Hello. I've been wanting to get a dual monitor setup and have been looking at the dell P2417H and U2417H. I'll be buying two of the same model. Is there any point paying more for the Ultrasharp? I don't really see much difference.

But I can't find much aside from those which seem well made, won't arrive with dead pixels and stuff. Please recommend me some monitors. I want them to be 23-27" IPS, that's all, ideally vesa compatible. Thanks, open to any suggestions.

40"-class OLED when

Just got the 27" version of this with the different looking stand.

I like it, and the price seems to be right given most other monitors in that range are some TN trash

That's the same size as my 4k TV. I'm pretty sure it's unusable from close distance.

I'm looking for a second rotating monitor. My current monitor is a Samsung S22D300. What should I get?

lovin my mg278q

first one was DOA though

Attached: IMG_2692.jpg (4032x3024, 2.11M)

Even at 36.7" I feel like a 4k monitor wouldn't need scaling.

I have a 43" so no.

32" on 1440p is awful. I made the mistake of buying one and regret it. Everything feels too big even at 1x because of the size of the monitor. 27-28" is where I want a 1440p if i ever get another.

24 or 27? Both are 1080p 144hz gsync

24, 1080p looks like vomit on a 27".

What the hell, man? Do you turn your head 90 degrees at all times?

I bought a 21:9 for home use and I am torn.

Honestly, I wish I had this one at work (fat fucking chance, cheap company and I'm not taking this up to the cubicle farm) and bought a couple high refresh rate 16:9 or 10s. My PC isn't good enough to run games at this resolution. Great for productivity but I work at work (trying to get motivated to learn my own shit to work for myself).

And given the size, there's not much space for a multi-monitor setup with this beast on the desk. I've looked into those movable arms but worried about the total weight load.

tldr Productivity: 21:9 easily, buy now if you can. Games: The highest refresh rate 27" monitor you can afford

93ppi is the absolute minimum when you buy a screen

>Productivity: 21:9 easily
Brainlet who doesn't have 2+ monitors and needs to snap things to half windows instead

27" 1440p is literal perfection. Although it is a 4k monitor, and I may just be showing cognitive dissonance over the fact that my system is showing its age and I get input lag at 4k. I cant really notice a huge difference in the picture at this size between 1440p and 4k though

cheapest freesync monitor where

>his desk is less than 60" wide
>his monitor is sub-40"

How are the thinkvision monitors?
Im thinking of spending way too much money on a few of them.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 132K)

This is retarded statement. Do you use 55inch tv as your monitor?

It's the same PPI as 23-24" 1080p screens, so not really.

bigger is always better as long as it isn't too heavy too move it around

because Im not spending 400 on a fucking refurb.

Just bought a LG 34'' UW,

It's 1ms, 144hz.

Coming from a 27'' 60hz, my mind is fucking blown.

It exceeded my expectations.

My new Acer ET322QK 32" 3840x2160/60hz/4ms/DP1.2. Abso-fucking-loutely love it. I was using an Acer XG240HU (cant rember if thats the right model #) 27" 2560x1440/144hz/1ms/DP1.2 and I was concerned the slow refresh and slow GTG response would make games look and run worse but my fears quickly abated. Running games at 2160p/60hz is the best visuals ive ever seen from any monitor to date. My GTX 1080ti Hybrid works flawlessly with the monitor, I get a perfect 60hz at 4k/max settings with vsync on and upwards of 100fps with vsync off.

>pointless
the idea is to not see pixels, not see pixels like you can on 1080p

>using scaling at 144dpi

Is gaming on a 43 inch acer doable
The input lag and screen space wouldnt make it too unplayable say for rising storm or total war

>2560x1440

Attached: S2716DG.jpg (522x522, 25K)

I upgraded from 27in 1440p to 32in 1440p

32in is better

I have a 32" screen too, but it's old and 1080p. What 32" did you get? Isn't 1440p small on 32"

>Wanted to replace my iMac 5k with a hackintosh
>Literally no viable way to do this without downgrading my screen

I was ready to spend $1000 on a fucking screen too, but no, even those are just 4k. The only 5k screens on the market are next to impossible to get working on anything but a real Mac as well.
