What makes a desktop look good?

Now of course I think aids infested faggots need their genitalia stapled shut. But aside from that, what really makes a desktop look good?
>Pic related is what I've got set up
>Linux mint

Beside the fade of the moment, like flat and pastel is here and now, what objectively makes for a good desktop is consistency.
Going for a theme.
Coherence.

Your desktop doesn't look good because you have fuckhuge 8bit icons below, a 2010 looking bar with that horrible white border and shadow on the right and a really distracting sci-fi themed background, with that cut out text on the bottom right.

Minimalism generally looks good because it's easy to be coherent when you don't have a lot to show.
MInimalism is the low effort way to make a good looking something, but it's not the only one.

Just updated my desktop.

Nice shitpost, friend

Your autism indicates something is wrong, what's the matter?

Holy damn did you just hid the gamer icons and changed the wallpaper and posted it again, seems like the judging and insults about gamerscum really hit you

first of all, my opinion are facts.

Clearlooks theme (which is sort of Windows Classic for GTK) on XFCE or MATE
Tango / Gnome-colors / GNOME-Default icons
Wallpaper or background color with appropriate controast to the light interface elements

no more faggy shit than that. gaanoo community has barely anything more consistent and maintained to offer and the GNOME3 desktop enviorement is an unstable piece of crap, so it's overall aesthetics are irrelevant

Aliums.

>all those references are at least 30 years old

anime

Icons are useless bloat. So are bars. mint is for brainlets, linux in general is shit.

woahhh i didnt know plan9 had an email client o:
its cute!!

I’ll have to go with
I’m not saying that 8 bit icons cannot work over a detailed background but they certainly aren’t working for you. From an aesthetics point of view your desktop has no coherence at all

i rly like the feel and look of elementaryOS

you guys got any themes or icon packs that you recommend?

Why you're thinking that linux is shit?
/Comfy/ void user here.

The kernel sucks. It's unprofessional, slow, and bloated. It has way too much things inside.
Things around it suck as well, the contents of a typical GNU/Linux (GNU, alsa, x11, systemd, etc) are all harmful things (you can see why they're harmful at cat v site)

Nothing makes a desktop good, because there's always someone hating what others use even if it doesn't matter to them.

So what is your proposition then? BSD is almost dead and plain 9 merely exist.

Why have you put a dock at the bottom when you're using a resolution that has limited vertical space? I'll never understand the logic...

I have one too. I have it set to dodge any windows so it hides when I need the screen space. Moving the mouse there shows it again.

first of all id recommend gnome if you like Pantheon (elementaryOS's DE or Look)
Good icon packs are
>flat remix
>numix circle
>paper

not a dock, that's for sure

BSD is also pretty harmful and shares most of the problems, but it's perfectly fine for contemporary computer usage. Also while not everything works plan 9 is also usable.

I feel like making sure everything ties together is what makes a desktop look good.
As long as there's some kind of flow between programs, it makes your the desktop feel wrapped up in a nice package.
Pic sort of related.

Consistency. Your desktop looks bad because it has a giant epic spaceship and a little fucking cartoon tree on the bar. It also has two completely different bars with different types of icons.

Linux Mint looks better OotB than this. I don't know exactly what you're going for but it looks inconsistent as fuck.

I'd do the dock away first of all. If you really think you need it at least turn hide on. Next, your pape play is weak as fuck. Even if you like sci-fi themed wallpapers you can find something better than a giant space turd by browsing /wg/ for a couple of minutes. Either you go full retro or look for an icon theme which matches with your overall look. Not a big fan of vertical panels, but if you really have to you should make it at least a bit wider. Your squished clock triggers me.

His panel theme is atrocious too.

>you can find something better than a giant space turd
kek

best desktop sans ausflag

Hmm... OP left us hidden messages to decipher

>Using a computer writing about life while wanking to child porn and playing Pokemon

A desktop doesn't need to look good, in fact it shouldn't look at all, as that would get in the way.

>What makes a desktop look good?
Personal preference. Keep arguing a subjective point like it's objective though you retarded cunts.

step one turn off all font anti-aliasing
step two add anime
