Good source for batteries for Canada anyone? Looking for a T520 battery.

bump

for me it's x200 + 1(intel me)

Attached: IMG_0268.rotated.jpg (3024x4032, 1.29M)

for me its the thinkpad t60p

If I disable the T430's NVS 5400M GPU from the BIOS settings, will the GPU still consume energy and produce heat or will really be turned off?

This is my first laptop with a dedicated GPU and I really don't see a need to having it on this laptop as I mainly use Linux and the weeb games that I play through Wine and VMs work fine with the integrated HD 4000.

I'm going to do install a quad core CPU so I don't want the GPU taking battery life and cooling that the CPU could benefit from.

Hey all you /tpg/ niggers. Is there a vertical dock out there? I have a T450.

I'm trying to turn my setup into a triple-monitor (with the thinkpad display as the 3rd) and since Mini Displayport adapters that output to more than 1 monitor at a time are stupid expensive, I think I might get a dock.

But I don't want to use the TP keyboard since it'd bring the actual laptop display too close to me, so I'll just hook up an external keyboard, but then I don't want the thinkpad's fat ass to be sitting there taking up desk space with a redundant keyboard. So I really want to just open it 180* and stick it fully upright.

There are stands for that but nothing that uses the docking port on the back.

I'm hearing popping sound using my Fiio E10k on my X220 running any distro, on windows is less noticeable since the audio interface doesn't cut the sound immediately when there's a pause. is it what i get for buying an USB powered or DAC?

There are a shitload of X201s and X201Ts in my third world country for some reason. Are they still good enough for light use?

soft rim...isn't that bad

what's /tpg/'s opinion on the X1 Carbon?

I kinda like the way they look but it seems really fragile.
I also like disassembling my shit and they don't look intuitive at all.

x220? i almost broke my mobo because i didn't remove those screws.
get a vga connector and screw it on there tight and then unscrew it. hopefully they should come off

Too small for a wrench too. Of course. Okay, Jow Forums, how do I get this shit out without attempting to break the chassis?
Had to go digging in the tool box so my nails got dirty
Yep, x220. Will try that.

not necessarily.
intel does a really sloppy job when applying paste.

plus it seems like the right shade of gray.

I've taken apart thousands of BNIB ThinkPads and none of them have ever looked like this. The thermal paste is more gooey than OEM. OEM thermal paste is solid. You can peel it up with a spludger.

How can I know what 9 cell battery to get? How much battery can I get with the right one? When I swarch 9 cell battery on the equivalent of ebay in my country I get various results in various price rangess, and I'm not sure which one to get.

For a t420, forgot to mention.

Higher number = newer = more likely to hold a better charge. Aftermarket Chinese batteries are a crapshoot, but can definitely be better than old ass OEM batteries.

Attached: 20180415_002003.jpg (4032x3024, 2.9M)

What about lithium batteries? Theres one for 200.

Hey, bought an X230T that just came in today. Is the screen supposed to flop around? It stays up but it's nowhere near as firm as my X230.

Idk, what's the number on it? Is it OEM?
You can try to tighten up the hinge, but one latch is definitely going to be worse than two hinges. If it's really bad, you can always order a new hinge.

Thanks user, appreciated. The screen likes to rest a few degrees off, I guess; like, it's only supposed to turn the one way but it turns the other way a bit. Tightening should help? Or should I just send it back?

It's a 9 cell
articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-598594276-lenovo-thinkpad-bateria-57-9-celdas-_JM the site is in spanish, but you cn probably pick something up from the numbers

Honestly, I've never disassembled the hinge on an x230t, but it seems reasonable that tightening should help. If you have a return windows, it's definitely worth giving it a shot. Also, find out the cost of a replacement hinge. You have to keep in mind that a 5 or 6 year old laptop is not going to be in perfect condition.
That battery does not list T420 as a supported model, so definitely make sure it's actually compatible with your laptop. It seems that model of battery is still in production, so if that's a brand new battery then it's probably pretty good. I can order that battery direct from Lenovo for $160 USD. No idea about pricing in your country.

The pointer on my X230 occasionally becomes unresponsive. Happens with both the trackpoint and the trackpad. Normally it works again after a few seconds, sometimes it never recovers until I close and reopen the lid. I opened it up and reseated the connectors to the keyboard and the trackpad, but no luck in fixing it.

What makes it extra weird: I bought it with W10 installed, which would BSOD (with driver related errors) almost every time I touched the trackpad or trackpoint. I didn't care so much at the time since I was just going to install Ubuntu, anyway. But clearly there's still something going on. Since this is consistent across OSes, I'm doubting this is exclusively a driver issue. And as far as I'm aware, the trackpad and trackpoint are considered entirely separate hardware devices (like having two different mice plugged in at once). Is there something fundamentally fucked about the mobo?

Attached: fa992ef4bb0c4bfdb5f32e209991a868.jpg (720x540, 28K)

That makes plenty of sense, yeah. There's a few things wrong with it but it's one of the cheapest ones on eBay, nothing wrong with paying a few extra bucks I guess. Thanks alot user

Oops, I didnt notice it isnt supported. How do you know wheter a battery is good or not? Is it just the cells?

I've come to the conclusion that LSU is broken and useless, at least for the t520/t530. I thought it might have been my OEM disc, so I tried with the technet ISOs and still have the same problem. It only detects half of the drivers the computer needs and always thinks that the video card needs its driver installed. What a piece of shit. Now i need to manually download everything and try to guess at what is actually in the computer.

No problem. Just being your friendly neighborhood Lenovo certified tech.
Well the number of cells indicates how much power the battery could store from the factory. Buying used, age and number of cells are both important factors to consider prior to buying. Aesthetic is another big factor. I hate the batteries the stick out the ass of the laptop, for example. Not really sure if that answers your question. I've been drinking.

>all of those overpriced and non-genuine T420 batteries @ Mercado Libre

How does it feel to be a mexicucked ThinkPad owner?

Yeah, I dont care about the aesthetics that much. I actually kinda like how it looks. I was just asking for things too look when buying a battery

Some things you can find with a good price, somw not

Yo

Attached: IMG_0036.jpg (4032x3024, 2.17M)

Have a 9 cell with minimal wear for the T420 that I don't have a use for. I'll send it to you for free in exchange for your support to building the wall. How 'bout it?

I know that paint job is bad, it was rushed, it is temporary, I just wanted to get rid of the sticky rubberized coating
The bottom side is actually black paper and electrical tape, all of it will be stripped down and blast sanded before proper repainting in the future.

Attached: IMG_0037.jpg (4032x3024, 2.15M)

Could be motherboard related. Pick up a cheap keyboard off eBay to test. Should only be like $15-20 shipped. Good opportunity to upgrade to the x220 keyboard as well. Alternatively, test out windows 7 to make triple sure it's not drivers.
Lenovo's update utilities are pieces of shit, especially on old laptops.

You're working on a 6 or 7 year old laptop, so any OEM replacement battery is going to be like 3-4 years old to begin with, and will not hold as much of a charge as it did brand new. If I were you, I'd go for the newest OEM battery you can afford. Either that, or I'd get two Chinese aftermarket ones if that's cheaper. If you get an aftermarket you'll probably have to flash your BIOS to get rid of the whitelist.

Anyone??

Anybody use more than 1 external monitor with their chinkpad?

Fuck. The t420 would be perfect were it not the shitty battery life.

can i have one

That, and the shitty screen.
I'm not aware of any vertical docking solutions. That's a pretty strange request.

>Lenovo's update utilities are pieces of shit, especially on old laptops.
I originally thought this, but was lead astray by someone in the previous thread. I wasted me entire day because of that. Fuck that guy.

I was thinking about doing th ips mod in the future, but I dont care about that nearly as much as I do for the battery.

I mean vertical stands are at least common. I'm just wondering if there's any way I could use a regular thinkpad dock, vertically, for moar desk real estate but also quick connecting/disconnecting from The Mainframe :-----) ...see pic related

Attached: standingdesks-top-2x1-fullres-0058-1024x512[1].jpg (1024x512, 58K)

Lack of FHD without serious hardware modding is my problem. A 14 inch screen is definitely more than large enough to warrant wanting 1080p imo.
It lives! Definitely don't recommend doing this while drunk, guys.

Attached: 20180415_012633.jpg (4032x3024, 3.12M)

I think I misunderstood what you were asking for. Build a jig to stick the OEM dock into at whatever angle you want lol.

I've thought about it actually, I want one for sure. But I just spent... im just gonna say "a lot" for that 701c because it's an AMD model, and I'm not sure I'm down for spending another 500+ dollars on a transnote.

Attached: IMG_0038.png (640x1136, 377K)

Brit bongs, how does a T440p with 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 9 cell battery sound at £250?

Any idea how to do it in a non-crack-addict-Macgyver way? I'm a DIY guy but not when it comes to building shit. Idk how I'd make sure it supports the laptop & doesn't topple over upon bumping the desk.

This might be wrong or unhelpful, but there is a checkbox in the settings for the driver that says something like "prioritize keyboard input" that's supposed to stop you from bumping the trackpad as you type, but on my 230t it used to make my trackpad/point spas out and be useless for like 5 seconds

Is it easier to get a good battery for a t430 than a t420? Also how does it compare in other areas?

Not that fragile compared to a MacBook but i still wouldn't throw it around, disassembly is very easy, just unscrew the bottom lid, the screen bezel is just held by glue and plastic tabs, but there isn't much to be done, the ram is soldered and you can only install an ssd on the big m2 slot and a 3g card on the small one, also the motherboard is very small, the battery is around 2/3 of the laptop.

yo has anyone here flashed coreboot on an x1 carbon thinkpad?

i'm planning on buying one and trying it out.

Attached: kdo8z7vuvna01.gif (200x250, 2.65M)

I'm more of a fix shit, not make shit person myself, but rigging something up with wood would be stable and look pretter sweet if you do it right. Build in somewhere for air flow and maybe a couple fans.

Don't fuck up the flashing, or else you will brick it.

What thinkpad can I get that has arroubd 7 hours battery life and has a replaceable keyboard?

I drew a sketch

Attached: 20180415_015835.jpg (4032x3024, 3.08M)

Only the first gen is supported and there are some stuff that doesn't work properly after the flashing, so keep your original flash dump in case you want to resell.

An x260/x250 have an internal and a external battery so you can definitely get more than 7 hours, otherwise the x220 or x230 can use the old 7 row keyboard(x230 needs to be modified) and a extended battery but getting one of those is kinda tricky.

Os the t530 too big to be portable? Can I replace the keyboard? How long can I get a battery to last on it?

Is it to bad the default one?

Wow holy shit. Thanks user, lol

If I ever get access to a 3D printer maybe I could whip something up like that. Might take a look at my wood crates and possibly saw some shit together with my dremel (?) lel we'll see I guess.

No AC WiFi, so can't connect to 5GHz. Not unusable, but I'd rather upgrade

Are you sure? My X220 can connect to 5GHz.

Is this overpriced? amazon.com/Lenovo-Battery-0a36303-Original-Packaging/dp/B0085MPGDG

Well the listing I'm gonna buy from says theirs doesn't support 802.11AC

bit late, but Taiwan uses traditional characters while most of mainland China uses simplified.

Is a 94wh 9 cell battery for a t430 overpriced in 200 dollars?

Some 802.11n devices are compatible with 5GHz but the card used in the T440P isn't.
ark.intel.com/products/75174/Intel-Wireless-N-7260

Since xX30 and up you have the retarded white list and you can't just put any card WWAN or WAN on your thinkpad without modding the BIOS or using a compatible FRU.

what's the number on it? What's the FRU number? SeeI see supposedly OEM 70++ 9 cells on eBay for like $50 USD, so $200 definitely sounds overprices if you're American.

Intel® Centrino® 7260 (Wilkins Peak 2 AC) 2x2 AC+ BT 4.0 should be whitelisted. See www3.lenovo.com/hk/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series/ThinkPad-T440p/p/22TP2TT440P#tab-tech_specs

Fair. From what I can see, just getting an Intel 7260 AC version will work. Cheers anons

It would be tricky to put this together with just a dremel, but it could be done.

70++, lithium

I have no idea of the quality of the $50 eBay batteries, and it's definitely possible that they're fake Chinese replacements, but from a cursory glance it sounds overpriced.
