Look around outside, every day Tesla is placing their chargers and shit in more and more places above ground, The Boring Company is drilling huge tunnels underground, SpaceX is launching re-usable rockets into space, what will happen when people don't have to rely on oil that's becoming more expensive and scarce by the day? New technologies will have to be invented, more sustainable ways of living. There are 4 possible futures I have theorised. One is an apocalyptic wasteland after most of the population has killed eachother and the few that have survived can't advance any further (like Mad Max). Another one is a future where humanity has survived and technology has advanced more than any Sci-Fi nerd's wettest dreams and the social imbalance hasn't become that much more (Futurama maybe?). Another one is a future where the elites are pretty much gods and the poor aren't that well off but they certainly can survive and work their way up (Altered Carbon is a good enough example). The last one, your favourite I suppose, the rich make up wars and diseases to drastically reduce the population, or they simply just leave the non-elite behind for certain death, so they can advance without the dead weight that is those who aren't as rich as them (Elysium?). Elongated Musket seems to be aiming for future 2 or 3, which is good by me, I do realize that future 1 and 4 seem more and more real everyday, but I have hope.

You won't have to rely on oil anymore, electricity is a lot cheaper than oil, think about it like this, let's say an average human spends €200 a month on filling up their car, the same person will be spending maybe €50 a month with an electronic car.
