Uhhh no, I use a T420 which still has remnants of IBM build quality.
I have three thinkpads, all of them were under $200 and (my t420) runs better than most laptops I could get for under a grand at a consumer electronics store.
Also I like that I have libreboot along with the linux-libre kernel on a machine that I don't have to get paranoid about.

I'm so I can't really help here, but it does genuinely seem like even the new Thinkpads are fairly good business-class machines going by reviews. Honestly if you need WWAN I'm not even sure what your other options are, given your other requirements.

Nothing is wrong with them. The fact that they are used in space, by businesses and that older ones actually still work without issues tell to the fact that they are good laptops with some level of modularity. I cannot speak of the new ones.

You probably realized this already, but it's the ThinkPad part that we care about, not the Lenovo part. They used to be IBM. They aren't as great these days, but they're still some of the best laptops you can get. Keyboards and durability got worse, screens got better (after a brief period of getting worse).
They basically have the same benefits of other business laptops. Robust construction, user-serviceable parts, pointing stick, powerful.
The battery life is the only real hard part. I haven't got anything newer than Sandy Bridge, but all my ThinkPads last four hours or less, I believe. I even have the extended batteries on a couple of them.
EliteBooks are almost as good as ThinkPads. Their consumer line is not worth considering. (Basically the same story as Lenovo and Dell)
