Markets will not, on their own, fund effective technologies and medical cures for diseases that destroy our lives and families.
We need to heavily tax the profits of tech and pharma companies' investors and other one percenters, and then turn the money over to publicly funded technology and scientific research that eschews all patents, and which is made available for free under theGPL, whereby any country that devotes a set fraction of its GDP to research gets free access to the fruits of all the other national signatories.
Without capitalism, there is very little incentive to innovate and produce. Thus, freeing technology in this manner will cause the drive to research and create to stagnate and dry up.

The objectively best thing for technology is to have a military dictatorship. War is essentially the best thing to happen to technology, and will always be. The threat of nuclear annihilation put humanity on the motherfucking moon. We don't need open standards, patents, GPL, etc. All that ruins the op sec needed for military to contribute to technological gains. Fascism and military utopia is the answer to technology, not open standards and public research run by bureaucrats. At least with our current "capitalist" system we have a military industrial complex, which contributes immensely to technological development. Your solution would lead to technological decadence.
