Let's try steamOs !

Hello Jow Forums ! I see we like linux and gaming here, so let's try SteamOS shall we ?
>type "steamos" in google
>click on the first link
>it's a random-looking page of steam's website, could be just a page of their forum you wouldn't notice
Huh okay it's not really engaging but hey we are willingfull let's proceed !
>click on the download link
>Do you want to download this .zip file ?
Oh hey look it's a .zip file this means it will be light !
>1.9Go.zip
what the fHEY okay no problem we'll just wait 20 minutes until the download is over yes ?!

SteamOS is another in a long list of failed projects that valve started to avoid making hl3.

No one is using steamOS. Even Valve indirectly admitted it was a failure.
Gaming on linux (huurrrr gnu plus linnix) is dead, fuck, it has never lived. Why would I bother with shitty drivers and a non existent game library when I can just run windows in qemu and pass through a GPU and a USB 3.0 controller?

>type "steamos" in google
>in google

Ok friends 20 minutes have passed and I see you are enthusiasts so let's proceed !
Now we have to make a bootable USB drive !
>open the almighty Rufus
>select drive and .zip file
>start the format, it's real quick
See my friends our issues have ended because verything is working fine now and
>USB drive does not contain SteamOS at all because Rufus can't write .zip files to bootable drive.
...
I'll just spend 20 more minutes to look for a Rufus alternative or I will just create an ISO with some daemon tools I guess...

>MUH BOTNET
Grow up already.

>Rufus can't write .zip files to bootable drive.

inb4 retard OP didn't unzip the image from the zip archive

inb4 retard user just want to insult OP without even knowing what he is talking about.

So I know that if I want to open a ISO file I use Daemon tools lite, so it will be able to create an ISO from a folder, right ?
>Run Daemon tools, you can't create an ISO file with it
Ok Daemon tools failed us but I know that you can open ISO files with WinRAR so it will not fail us !
>Download WinRAR for this sole purpose (because of botnet I use 7zip) but it can't create ISO file either.
Alright alright no problem lads please don't leave !
>google "how to create ISO file"
>scroll to first wikiHow link
>they say to download InfraRecorder from ninite
O...Okay user it will be quick I promise !
>follow the wikiHow until the ISO file is created
Okay user I know we started this 2 hours ago but it will be done soon don't worry Linux is so much quickier to install compared to Windows teehee

Did... did you actually consider following or at least looking at the installation instructions at any point?

I dont know of any valve game that ends with 3

ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS COPY IT. NO RUFUS NEEDED

You're probably one of the google shills who call duckduckgo cuckcuckgo

Daemon tools is malware, uninstall it

duckduckgo sucks tho

>I see we like gaming here
Lurk moar

holy fuck just unzip it to the drive, what are you doing

Elaborate.

/thread
Gamers and even more wannabe gamedevs are the absolute pariah here, even lower than pajeets.

OP is a retard
Read the fucking readme.html already

>I see we like gayming here
Gaymers

>complete nonsense commands
what did he mean by this

Yeah mostly because they don't give two shits about what CS is really about, they just "want to learn to kode vidyaz in unity or unreal xD" and treat all the important knowledge about OSs, CPUs, algorithms etc... as superficial. Then you wonder why videogames are so poorly optimized nowadays.

curl repo.steampowered.com/download/SteamOSInstaller.zip --output SteamOS.zip

gzip SteamOS.zip -d /dev/sdb1

>gzip
did you mean unzip

store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown
Please learn to read.

Files created by zip can be uncompressed by gzip only if they have a single member compressed with the 'deflation' method.

>lets try debian jessie with new kernel and gpu drivers
it has been confirmed multiple times that ubuntu has better performance than steamos, just add the steam session ppa to new ubuntu and use this.

I am so happy that you are all interested in this project !
Now we have our ISO file we need to "burn" it (don't worry we are not actually burning it haha) into our USB drive like we did before !
>unplug and plug back USB drive, just to be sure
>'USB Flash Drive Does Not Detect or Cant Access Files'
Oh it may be because Windows is not happy that we did not disconnect the USB drive properly haha but don't worry user I have this thing called VMWare it will do the trick !
>open VMWare and create a new virtual machine
>Typical installation, put an Installer disc image file right away and choose the ISO created earlier
>Choose debian 8 as the OS as VMWare can't detect which OS which ISO is from
>keep the 20GB maximum storage capacity for the VM
Now before we end the utility we will add more 'hardware' to the VM because my computer is really powerfull !
>Add 4GB of RAM and two processors and two cores per processors
This will be more than enough for all our great games user don't worry !

works for me.

>this whole thread
Let's try RTFM !

He may be a retard, but at least he didn't download the same distro twice.
