That applies to everything and everyone. How many people do you know that properly take care of their car and know how it works? Or have read the cleaning and maintenance instructions of their stove or washing machine? How many of those apply this to everything in their life?
Most tech-savvy "us autismos" act the exact same way as those "boomers" with other appliances. It's an inherent property of human behavior to invest as little effort as possible in research and learning, because those things are very costly and _usually_ have comparatively little benefit compared to lazying around, socializing, etc. Of course it still pays off to specialize and it pays off to know a lot of things, but for most people it doesn't.

I told a boomer to just throw their 2008 MacBook out and get a new one instead of getting it repaired as it would be insufficient at the modern web. They spent $800 getting it fixed (new motherboard, retrieved data) then when they updated it all and went to visit Facebook it said "Your browser is out of date. Please upgrade" and when they went to Chrome and Firefox it said "Your system isn't supported anymore" then they learned Apple won't update their device to High Sierra due to being to old. They tried to sell it for 4 months for $3,200 and only got lowball offers of $300. I did tell them it's worth nothing but they insisted Apple is best of the best and at least 10 years ahead of any competitors and that I was reckless and foolish to insist they sell it "vastly underpriced".
