I need to figure out if this is the AC adapter, or bad mobo.
I got meme'd and bought a T420 on eBay. Great condition. I upgraded the RAM, and got an SSD. Installed Win10, had a great running laptop. Then I decided to upgrade the CPU. Bought an i7 2670QM. After I installed it the laptop never powered on again. No idea what happened. Original seller offered $50 refund which I took.
Got a used mobo on eBay for $30, installed the new CPU, powers on fine with new CPU.
Put everything back together, and it boots up, but now has a new issue.
It will not charger the battery. The laptop will run off AC power only, but it runs super slow at 0.79GHz. Using my power meter the AC adapter draws 18watts with no battery. If I plug in the battery the laptop wont charge it, and the draw drops to 0.8 watts. If I remove the battery, the laptop will loose power. It does this in Windows, Ubunty live CD, and the BIOS.
So, is the replacement mobo bad/damaged, or did my AC adapter eat shit too?
Help me here, I'm a student who's currently have arrived in china for internship in a company, need a new laptop since the old one is un upgradable and really slow. Should I buy a Thinkpad in China? Wjere can I find one? Are they going to be cheaper? Should i buy the t460 or t470? I don't want an old model like t430 or 420. Or should I buy the xiaomi mi notebook air?
