I need to figure out if this is the AC adapter, or bad mobo.

I got meme'd and bought a T420 on eBay. Great condition. I upgraded the RAM, and got an SSD. Installed Win10, had a great running laptop. Then I decided to upgrade the CPU. Bought an i7 2670QM. After I installed it the laptop never powered on again. No idea what happened. Original seller offered $50 refund which I took.

Got a used mobo on eBay for $30, installed the new CPU, powers on fine with new CPU.

Put everything back together, and it boots up, but now has a new issue.

It will not charger the battery. The laptop will run off AC power only, but it runs super slow at 0.79GHz. Using my power meter the AC adapter draws 18watts with no battery. If I plug in the battery the laptop wont charge it, and the draw drops to 0.8 watts. If I remove the battery, the laptop will loose power. It does this in Windows, Ubunty live CD, and the BIOS.

So, is the replacement mobo bad/damaged, or did my AC adapter eat shit too?

Wjere can I find one? Are they going to be cheaper? Should i buy the t460 or t470? I don't want an old model like t430 or 420. Or should I buy the xiaomi mi notebook air?

x220 unless you will actually be using the tablet

even then, for dedicated drawing a proper tablet will be better, the built in one is just one you don't have to carry separately

Gonna buy a i7 4980 for my t440p next month and try it out

Attached: z19y2uh.png (934x501, 125K)

Was it someone here that purchased the 1440p modded x230 off lcdfans? Is he legit? his mods are tempting

What do ya'll think? x230 12.5" IPS Panel - Intel i7-3520M - 16GB RAM - 256GB SSD - Docking Station

$405 with free shipping. in "B+/A-" condition

Do I do it? It's pretty much fully stocked

Same guy who made that thread ( I needed (you)s really bad). Its not bad at all. Gonna repaste with some thermal grizzly kryonaut to try and drop that last degree or so, but temps are fine.

decent price, i would

I reckon I will, just because of the convenience of having it fully stocked and a for-sure on the IPS panel + the dock is just an extra nice addition, comes with key, too. Also a 9 cell

What happened to that constant coupon thing that was usually in the OP of these threads?

x200

You got it? Would you be a bro and take some pictures of it and do some rendering and gaming benchmarks? Also curious to how it reports in cpuz, hwinfo64 etc.

complete package indeed, perhaps add the 7 row keyboard but thats up to your preferences

Just bought a t420 with power and dock for $95, how’d I do boys?

Sounds like a great deal. What condition was it in?

>bitches about non symmetrical keyboard
>probably doesn't know what he's tying on

Ive seen similar prices, what makes them so cheap is what id like to understand

Laptops with numpads make me irrationally hard, though

Attached: mydickwhen.gif (229x200, 653K)

Excellently condition, 8gb ram too. Gonna throw arch on this thing when I get it home

Companies phase them out in waves so there’s always used stock around

Interested in getting one but I know next to nothing. Preferably light and nice to type on, will only really be used for lectures and light gaming on whatever gnu I feel like at the time. Any suggestions for serious/model?

Attached: shit-emoji-57b1f517d11b2.jpg (640x559, 22K)

i love this mess

do you use battery? If you do and this happens when it's not plugged in, try getting a new battery. Test the power supply also.

I just saw some fucking gore back there.

> See a T540p on Ebay for a decent price
> Seller claims he's selling the one in the pictures
> It looks nice, one minor lid scratch
> Buy it, it arrives today
> It's a 520 and not a 540p
> All three USB slots have been removed with what looks like a pair of pliers or something
> Nothing in the Ultrabay, not even a bezel
> Thing is dented to shit and the screen is cracked

I could fix it, but nah fuck that. Sending it back tomorrow.

Is that the main office of the pirate bay?

The Polish office perhaps

Anyone else got an opinion on this?

Pics?

something in the x series definitely.

i see, thanks

oh and this isnt a thinkpad, but for the people who would like my tiny 701c, they also might like this thing i picked up off craigslist today

it has a pcmcia slot and a compact flash slot
im gonna get a wireless card and some storage, shitpost from it, play doom

I can't get the synaptics driver to work on my W530 (no 2 finger scroll on touchpad, etc). What am I doing wrong? I installed the one from the W530 downloads section on lenovo website.

Will have a proper look at them all, Thanks

Are you sure you didn't just fry the battery?

Has anyone here tried the 51nb kits to modernize older thinkpads with the newest 8'th gen CPU's?

The idea is great but I've read that it's a hassle to get things to work propperly

I bought a X220T and regret it.

>installing modern backdoored hardware
>not using a librebootable machine
Why would you do that?

I'm a brainlet and the chinks assemble it for me

Honestly, I would have taken some but I managed to get the RMA within five minutes of listing all of the shit that was wrong with it and rushed it off to the post office to ship.

ah fair enough, sucks that the seller tried to scam you

its actual shit that only 15 year old weeb posers like

There's a guy that sells refurbished x230's with 7 row keyboard and 1400p monitors for like 440 bucks, check the tp reddit

Who knows what else he puts on there but have fun

fellers what's the word on upgrading the T420 screen over the default HD+ one? Are the fhd mods ever coming back? What would be the best TN option? All I really want is good angles, wish there were 14" HD+ IPS screens

Attached: 1523323308898.jpg (639x960, 83K)

x201

Attached: IMG_0268.rotated.jpg (3024x4032, 1.29M)

Yeah he even mods the x230 with 2K screens Lmao

But would you pick the x230 with original build and upgraded keyboard & screen or go for the fully moded older thinkpads with New motherboards and CPU’s?

My gut tells me to go for the x230 and see how the chinks develope their modified thinkpads the next few years

for me it's x200 + 1(inte me) + i

Attached: IMG_0292.jpg (2268x3024, 963K)

The Macbook looks like an angry face with big giant teeth and a mean unibrow

i myself like the X2xx builds pref X220 so id go for the modded x230 myself

I hope some business just starts shamelessly copying the older designs instead of retrofitting

alrighty /tpg/, i have an issue with my t420 and id like some help. my t420s ram wont stop being allocated to hardware. when there is a single stick of 4gb ram, its about 560mbs dedicated or so, but with two sticks of 4gb, its a little over 4gb of ram dedicates towards hardware. this happens with all three sticks of ram i have available. the ones on the left were in it when i bought it, the blue being under the keyboard. the one on the right came out of a t430 with no issues with ram. any ideas?

Attached: 20180417_200923.jpg (2576x1932, 1.97M)

Businesses are too fucking stupid

They keep trying to appeal to normies

What OS do you guys install on your ThinkPad?

I'm still running Windows 7 because that's what mine came with. Also it came with MS Office, which was convenient. However, I might need to buy a new laptop soon and I don't want to pay for Windows + MS Office subscription.

Most people run GNU/Linux or as I've taken to calling it "GNU plus Linux"

battery works fine, and it charges very slowly when the laptop is off.

Just bought a thinkpad - it's got a fresh install of windows 7 on it. How do I check the os and bios for malware?

wipe everything to be safe

deb

Windows is malware.

it's probably because the t420 is shit and you are shit for owning one.
