Linux Distros

I'm currently using Kali linux... but I'd like to switch to a more mainstream distro... one where I'm not always in root.
Whats a good linux distro? And what are the benefits/disadvantages of each popular distro?

install gentoo

Since you appear to be a total script kiddie without even the most basic skills like adding users.
You probably saw Kali on TV or something.
Maybe read up on some command line and linux 101 first. Then choose whatever, we don't care.

Or install gentoo, but be careful, you might actually learn something.

I'm 35 and I write code for a human factors consultancy firm. Specifically, I write programs that help us study human-computer interaction and cognitive ergonomics.
Honestly, I don't use 90% of the applications that come with Kali... because most of them are redundant and I have no use for. I'm not a penetration tester... I have no need for them.

Stfu, everyone gets into Linux because they wanna be "l337 h/-\x0rs these days. This kid is trying to get on the proper path.

I would start with arch and follow the install guide, it gets you used to linux.

I'd just like to hear peoples experiences with other distros before I choose one. I don't get the /b/ style immedi-hate.

This. You start with Ubuntu, go to arch, learn to love the aur, then something breaks and you just go back to a normie distro with more experience.

Also, I'm OP... in case that wasn't clear.
