1. Get LOS and don't flash GAPPS.
2. Install F-droid.
3. Install Yalp (to download and use google store apps).
4. Install Signal and tell your wire-pajeet friend about it too.
5. Install WhatsApp.

7. Afaik imessage is the SMS equivalent service from iOS so no need for replacements here since you have Signal.
8. No need for messenger, that friend almost certainly uses WhatsApp.
9. Get a ProtonMail account for school (the free one is enough for your need).
Sadly it's the only way I can think of being somewhat proprietary-free while using proprietary services.
