What's a good first bass amp? :)
dunno
What are some good speakers over $10K?
Sabaj A2 is a great tpa3116d2 amp
I recommend this if you don't have room for big ass vintage sansui amps
I personally think that KEF Reference, Focal Sopra and JBL 4367 are the only interesting speakers at that pricepoint.
Just below $10k and you can look at Dynaudio Contour 60 and Genelec 8351.
So far, the Neumann KH420, Genelec 8260, and JBL M2. Been gravitating to the Neumanns.
I wonder what the new Revel Be is like.
Why the vintage Sansui?
recommend me small passive bookshelf speakers, i don't have much space on my desk
So I want to fix my setup.
I have my speakers hooked up to the mobo from it's on-board 3.5mm.
My consoles are connected to a monitor that has speakers, but they suck so I use the monitor's 3.5mm headphone jack into my speaker's aux.
I just want my speakers to output from my games and PC
simultaneously and can connect headphones so I can listen to both sources easily. I can do this on my current setup but the sound from the consoles hooked up to the monitor have low volume. Also there is noise from my mobo causing hiss on my speakers, and by extension on my headphones.
KEF eggs + subwoofer maybe?
buy that huge knob from jds labs.
How small is small? Three-inch drivers or five-inch drivers?
Price constraints?
As mentioned, you could really use a subwoofer, but that can but placed underneath a table.
>I just want my speakers to output from my games and PC
>simultaneously and can connect headphones so I can listen to both sources easily.
You mean to hook them both up to the speakers at the same time
Then, you want to be able to switch between headphone and speaker. Is this correct?
Maybe a external DAC with a headphone amplifier? I don't know of any solutions for listening to multiple sources simultaneously. I just took for granted that your consoles have digital output for the audio, otherwise getting a integrated amplifier with inbuilt dac and headphone-amplifier might be a better option.
3" or 4" drivers, something like kanto yu4
$0-$500 or something not ridiculous
Got my new bench this week.
Now to the next question, where the hell do I dispose of the concrete-blocks that I used in the old one.
>sister coming in town this weekend to visit
>can't hang out the entire day on /ag/
this is suffering. I'll be a phonefag.
Stand looks great, those concrete blocks were making me nervous.
Does your apartment have a dumpster? How do you do trash pickup? When I get rid of "construction" stuff I generally do it bit by bit in the regular trash because my city gets mad when you try to have garbage pickup of construction goods.
If there is a construction site nearby with a dumpster sometimes that's a good way to get rid of them too.
Maybe a little too small for you, but I have some Audioengine A2s at the office that do just fine for light music. If you want to crank it you'll need something better though. They are very small though.
I've really enjoyed the Meridian DSP5200SEs. Excuse my messy photo, I just got the 4k UHD722 HDMI processor and had to switch some cables to 18Gbps HDMI to get things to work.
We chair-fi now.
w2c chair
what's the comfy factor?
eames chair, they are like 5-6 grand from Herman Miller.
The one and only audiophile-chair.
I'm jealous.
Heard them at a show, they sounded quite good for being at a show. What made you go with Meridian instead of any of the more "normal" solutions?
Hay Jow Forums, do drivers degrade with age? I bought a secondhand Beyerdynamic DT990 about 5 years ago and it's been great so far. I'm just wondering if I can use these cans for the rest of my life (barring some accidental permanent damage) or if I will eventually need to upgrade down the line.
Note that I am incredibly satisfied with the sound they output and have no desire to upgrade just for "better" sound.
its just a replica i picked up for about 1000 bucks. no idea how it compares to the real thing but the one i got is legit, aniline leather and very comfy.
The sound quality. They are fantastic.
The downside of them is you are stuck using their gear, if you like to mix and match Meridian isn't for you. I have other stuff for tinkering, this is more the plug and go setup. It's a comprehensive digital audio setup. For music I use Roon steaming off a QNAP to them.
Where did you buy the replica?
Significant degradation would usually occur on the scale of a decade or two, depending on the material. But, other than the foam and pads (made with foam), nothing is particularly vulnerable in the DT990 design.
With headphones, a more serious element of wear and tear is involved, Besides the obvious decay of padding, parts can and will loosen up. With a steady flow of simple parts replacement and some re-soldering of connections as needed, these should be able to last a couple decades depending on usage.
>have a bunch of old speakers
>many of them approaching over 20 years old
>i'm a moron and not able to do stuff like recapping
I guess they'll be trash eventually
What are the best headphones to unlock my chakra?
I don't know if this is the right thread to post this on, but I am having a problem with foobar.
I got SSRC X and now I can't hear anything when i play DSD files. I removed SSRC X and went back to using SSRC and PPHS but nothing changed.
Maybe it's because the samplerate of the files is 2822400Hz and my DAC can only handle up to 192k? Foobar used to play those files at 44.1k until i fucked around with the resamplers, now it apparently tries to play them at the original samplerate.
What do
DSD? I doubt any resampler is built with that in mind.
buy new dac with dsd support
they are cheap as fuck now
dsd converted to pcm doesn’t sound good as native dsd
Why spend $10K on some aesthetic bullshit when you can spend $1K on a flatpack+drivers+crossovers and build something more powerful than any available option on the market today.
>diysoundgroup.com
Just realized that I set DSD instead of PCM on the SACD output mode.
Now I wish i had bought the Topping D30 instead of the SMSL Sanskrit 6. Retarded buy
looks like something you'd find in a college frathouse.
Yeah probably. College kids like to do crazy cool shit too.
Entire setup ruined by fucking anime shit
Looks like one of the many high sensitivity and high-efficiency speakers. If so, it would be a little weak in absolute bass extension, but drivable from any speaker amp.
How does it perform?
I need a lowboard for the TV
Very unique curve on that TV user!
The speaker placement could use some improvement
Yes, correct.
I know the speaker placement is a bit off, but i like how they blend in to the rest. Plus i don't want to spend $100+ on stands.
probably here I guess
amodernworld.co.uk
who vinyl here?
>where the hell do I dispose of the concrete-blocks
Stack them up on your kerb and put up a craigslist ad offering free blocks.
Someone always needs blocks.
Those always seem kind of pointless in a house or apartment where you can’t possibly use the output. I mean how much louder than reference do you really want to go?
I have a 1200 but it’s put away. I’m going to hook it up when i move
need something to fill the empty spaces
i daresay its low enough already my good chap
try a middle or high board instead
you rather need a new camera i would say.
> started collecting 2 years ago
> hovering around 200 records so far
> still on entry level stuff
> picked up a 2nd hand Rega RP1 with the 2M red
> might upgrade to GoldRing 2100
What's a good pair of earbuds that will last more than a year? I've had about a dozen earbuds with an average lifespan of 30 to 40 days before one of the earbuds stop working.
that's an amazingly grotesque eames lounge knock off
enjoy having shit taste in everything
It's useful for valve lovers that use amplifiers that can only manage a few watts of output. You'll notice a lot of horn speakers with these types.
Stepping away from the dubious, nobody appreciates thermal distortion. You probably won't use one of these compression driver/pro woofer combo in the nearfield either, meaning more sound output needed.
Even if you don't consider that, the arrangement of a compression driver crossed over a midwoofer is interesting in its own right.
hmm sexy
I guess so, but even if you use valves, something like that is going to go to what 125dB no problem? Anything over 90-95dB is just a bad idea, right? Seems like a much smaller speaker would be just fine.
user, i've had dollar store ear buds for years, some which get used daily. I suggest being more gentle with your shit.
10 to 20 watts would be closer to a usual range for those types of amplifiers. So probably 105-110dB.
>Seems like a much smaller speaker would be just fine.
The mega woofers are to maximize both sensitivity and low-frequency output. But yes, they would be more useful if the resonance point was even lower. It's more than sensitive enough, and just the to match the high end.
The main goal with the compression drivers and massive woofers is constant directivity, control over how the sound is radiated. The compression tweeter has a wide bandwidth, so it can be crossed over lower in the midrange than a typical driver. It helps minimize vertical interference. The large woofer will limit sound radiation to a tighter degree. Ideally, you would be able to match these carefully. Hopefully.
To step away from DIY, here's a pretty neat tower for not an exorbitant amount of money.

Are lsr305 THAT good?
Or do I save for something like Focal Alpha, Adam A5X or Dynaudio instead?
Purpose will be purely for fun at my room: music, movies and PC games.
I don't work with audio.
Already got headphones and want something better.
I don't think there is that big difference. I have DT880S that look retro and they still sound really good.
>Are lsr305 THAT good?
Yes and no.
They are quite neutral on-axis for the price and clean out almost everything else for off-axis response/directivity for a few times more. This includes the Adams and Focals.
Their construction uses a lot of plastic; this is a very cheaply made speaker. The onboard amplifiers tend to hiss as well.
The current model is now the 305mk2.
Aren't a lot of those 100+ dB/watt efficient?
Thanks, I'll read that article.
Reading that article, these seem much more reasonable:
>Impedance: 8 ohms nominal, 3.5 ohms minimum at 146Hz. Sensitivity: 90dB/W/m. Maximum SPL/pair: 116.0dBA. Power handling: 200W. Recommended amplification: 80–200W RMS.
Kind of a difficult load at 3.5ohms min, but with a 4ohm stable amp at 11ft away feeding ONE speaker 120watts, near a wall, they will play at 103dB+ (used this calc: myhometheater.homestead.com
Okay so it needs more power than a tube amp to do that, but, even with just 20 watts and two speakers it is at nearly 100dB at 11ft. I think much smaller yet still sensitive speakers make much more sense than those 8ft monstrosities with compression drivers.
Single or Pair?
Klipsch Jubilee is my answer for pair
Is there anything that would cause my Bluetooth earphones to use aac instead of LDAC? Both my earbuds and phone support it, but I can only select SBC or AAC.
I forgot a downside of compression drivers.
They're not especially good at staying linear. Products tend to be of low order, so it hasn't been considered a big deal in practice.
Pic related is the THD SPL limit of JBL M2.
Anyone know of some solid neutralish budget iems in the $50 price range?
The horn it's attached to matters just as much
As much? That seems either patently obvious or just untrue.
The inlet directing airflow has a crucial role in nonlinearity, of course. The goal of CD horns runs almost directly counter to linearizing the airflow.
Some one rec me some 2.1 speakers for music and videos in a $100-$200 range
Anyone have any opinions on the Fiio FH1 dual driver?
fee fiio ho hum
anyone go to audio salons
There we go with the giant speakers in a tiny room again. Those might be fine for a 100 person theater, but for a small room might as well get something that sounds better. Not to mention put them behind an acoustically transparent screen.
I used to when I was younger and lived in another city. There is one I know of here but I've never been. I hate being a tire kicker and I'm not in the market for anything that high end, so, hate to waste anyones time.
>There we go with the giant speakers in a tiny room again
What's your problem? You know that bigger is better right?
A used GK.
A pair of Duetta custom made for you by capable craftsmen.
That looks like a shit kit.
The lights really tie the whole thing together
where to get free .flacs from?
Is deezloader good?
what is the best flac player
>Not to mention put them behind an acoustically transparent screen.
Behind the screen is a center channel with the same top end horn and a different bass bin.
Larger speakers = less intermodulation distortion = better sound
Oh look, a disobedient one!
Come back before you get BONED

Any opinions on yamahas ns-g30s? Looking for some cheapo passive speakers
Etymotic MK5 or MC5, preferably mk5. Doesn't tolerate a less than perfect fit well, so something with a little more bass may be for the better.
Like most hybrids, it has a boost to the lows and highs.
Fiio EX1 might be a bit smoother overall, a bit less of a boost. It has no isolation worth mentioning if that is a concern.
I own a pair of powered bookshelf speakers.
I have some extra money to spend on audio gear and I was thinking if it would be worth it to invest in a subwoofer.
My speakers only produce sound above 50Hz.
>he's an 'audiophile'
>he's never been to an orchestra concert
>listening to rothschild family and adolf hitler-rothschild approved music tuning A440
enjoy your demonic vibrations.
I warned you, it's your choice from this point on.
I’m planning to build my own set of home theater towers out of wood cabinets I will manufacture myself and a couple of woofers, tweeters and crossovers for car audio equipment.
Anyone here have any experience doing something similar, do you have any recommendations?
There are only 2 audiophile grade concert halls in the world and the rest sucks. Stop pretending to understand good sounding music when in reality you have no clue about it.
Is one of them your mom's basement?
>being this retarded
ehhh i heard about that but interview and whatever cant be arsed with it
is there anything public thats good
How do I organize my music in foobar better?
Looks like shit and it's hard to navigate.
Is there a simple/lazy way or do I get another player?
