Same thing happened with Ryzen 1000 series.
The first 4 months of AGESA updates gave like 4-7% performance increases. More than Skylake and Kabylake increased IPC if you don't count DDR4 vs DDR3 increases.
Now not only is the new AGESA update for Ryzen 2000 faster for the 1000 series on launch, but now there's yet another BIOS update that makes it faster still. Though it doesn't seem like they retested the 1800X to see if it also benefits as much.
Anyone who bought a 7700k at that time based on the 1700s launch benchmarks must feel retarded now.

ever since the meltdown and spectre patch my skylake i5 has a standard load of 3, idle. performance is so fucking bad, opening a browser and having more than 10 tabs results in a freeze because the cpu gets to hot and can't throttle fast enough.
