I see only 6 distios.

Manjaro is owning Arch? That is hilarious.

Also, Mint comes with a preinstalled link to Distrowatch, so the list is completely biased in Mint's favor. Fuck that nonsense

That can't be right because #1 is Android.

Why isn't TAILS #1 24/7/365?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I don't trust that list just because nobody fucking uses Manjaro

Based Manjaro!
People who get shit done instead of ricing and distro hoping are using Manjaro quietly every day.

>Manjaro is owning Arch? That is hilarious.
Isn't Manjaro just Arch plus a GUI installer, for people who are too clueless to partition a disk? Tbh Manjaro beating Arch fits perfectly with my mental model of the average Arch user.

"The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring the popularity of Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website"

I knew these numbers were bullshit.

distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity
link for those interested.

If anything, it just means people wonder what the hell manjaro is.

Genuinely surprised that Debian and Ubuntu aren't above Mint, which is just a distro based on a distro based on a distro, haha. Basically just Ubuntu with cinnamon preinstalled and some Mint branding.

It's also fucking terrible.
Arch installs run flawlessly, the 2 times I tried manjaro it has always ended in a shitshow.

Only good distros I have ever used:
Debian, Crunchbang (Kinda), Arch.

Fuck everything else.

they all sucks fuck systemd

It has a nice default asthetic for KDE and XFCE.
It also has GUI frontends for driver and kernel managements. A lot of convenient "just werks" shit for people who don't have time for config file autism or are tech illiterate.

No manjaro isn't just a GUI installer for arch, it maintains its own dedicated software repositories to ensure delivery of fully tested and stable software packages, and support for the easy installation and use of multiple kernels.
It comes with some nice preinstalled packages with some basic config and theming done. Also has a nice tool for automatic hardware detection.
I'm curerently on Manjaro, pretty /comfy/ so far

I use Manjaro btw

it's because arch is hard to install for entry-level normies

i am surprised elementary os is more popular than fedora

No, that's the ranking of distros that get looked up on that one site.

does battery life depend on the distro or thats just a kernel thing?

>Not listing the distros by average rating
Why aren't you SalentOS right now?

Attached: DistroWatchSortedByAvgRating .png (270x271, 18K)

No Linux wizard visits or gives a fuck about distrowatch

stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportOperatingSystems.htm

Linux Other 2,170 M
Linux Ubuntu 1,238 M
Linux Fedora 53.6 M
Linux Mint 6.4 M

distrowatch just counts number of clicks, not users

>TrueOS is linux

Oh my god kill me god please just let me release

10 for 10, bb

No these are the most searched distro on distrowatch, not even google.

See this: That list basically shows the most popular distros among distro hoppers.

>Manjaro is #2
>Antergos is #5

What did they mean by this?

>more people are using a fucking iPad to browse Wikipedia than an actual iMac
>iPhone users are the second largest group

>modern Apple users are literally (LITERALLY) mobile users

ubuntu should be #1 with 18.04 release
debian is fine
everything else is an unsupported joke until you get to opensuse

Hmm, so Windows is gonna be for PCs, Mac becomes the mobile OS, and Linux for experimental/tinkering stuff? Hmm, maybe there's some kind of OS convergence in the future...

are you blind?

why is manjaro a joke?

I'd be embarrassed to use Manjaro or Antergos.

>Mint
>Ubuntu
>elementary
one
>Debian
two
>Antergos
>Solus
>Manjaro
Three
>Fedora core
Four
>OpenSUSE
Five
>TrueOS
not a linux???

why? I use it and I'm not embarresed, why should I?
why are you grouping them together like that, they might be based on eachother but they're hardly the same

It is like saying OpenSUSE Tumbleweed is a different distro with OpenSUSE Leap.

>everything else is an unsupported joke until you get to opensuse
Fedora is quite good, I say it as suse user.
I just dont like their support cycles

>tfw kevin shilled solus to sixth place

Attached: 1479091828838.jpg (800x800, 102K)

>debian separate from ubuntu

Ayyyyyyyyy

Attached: tard.jpg (1024x512, 71K)

you know what solus does right? i really like it's audio interface. you can switch audio outputs in two clicks from the gui. but then it doesn't have a win+p monitor switch utility. or at least that was the case half a year ago when i tried it. not really the worst distro ive ever used (debian) but not very remarkable either

>you can switch audio outputs in two clicks from the gui.
pavucontrol works in any distro.
I wouldn't expect a distro hopping bottom feeder raving about distro's apps like they are specific to anything to know that though.

Attached: muhnips.png (354x528, 205K)

I've accidently

>in solus
>click audio icon from task bar
>popup gui click "audio from hdmi" or "speakers"

>in anything else
>click audio
>click open pavu control
>go to the last tab
>scroll through 30 listings and press off on the audio device you are currently using
>scroll through another 30 listings on the device you want to use and then click on
>do this every single time you want to switch audio outputs
note im not even saying solus system is perfect, windows does it better is in it automagically switches to the audio output being used based on a preference on plug system, but solus does it better than pavucontrol

Why is mint higher than ubuntu? Isn't ubuntu the most beginner / paneer friendly out of all of them? Mint is newer to the party.

This

Attached: ff.png (562x716, 451K)

You know why, user... you know why.

> Mint on top
no surprise there

>mint,manjaro and debian above Ubuntu
Where did you get this from? Seems off.

yeah there is no way manjaro is more popular than ubuntu

The fuck, why is mint so high? Is it because muh Windows feel?
You'd think the userbase would jump shit with how unsecured they've been the last years.

stop trolling

only new people introduced to gnu/linux take distrowatch into consideration.

tldr distro watch is for fucking nigger faggots

just use debian, arch or gentoo. Everything else is fucking cancer. For bsds, openbsd is the best.

>''wow what? Linux mint was cracked and backdoored?'"
>click counter heats up
>suddenly linux mint nr.1 distro
And this is the story about how the worst distro became the most popular distro.

based interjection poster

>Solus
>Antergos
>Manjaro
Why are they grouped together?

too bad that most average ratings are shit.
as something may be voted for 50 times and get perfect score

I love elementary but holy hell does it need better UI scaling

won't be coming until the next major release after Juno...

so 2020 most likely

>Page Hit Ranking
Jow Forums is dead

literally who?

I thought Ubuntu was more popular.

If popular = better, then we'd all be on windows...

Looks pretty comfy desu.
>Based on Debian stable
>Openbox
>Nice wallpaper
>Made by Italians

Attached: Screenshot-2018-4-26 Discover - SalentOS Official.png (853x480, 786K)

I like all those things but why not just use Debian and Openbox?

Because SalentOS is more obscure and probably has some different packages installed and preconfigured

antergos and manjaro are Arch based, but not solus

ah #! the memories... i miss that distro

openSUSE > Solus > Debian > Fedora > Ubuntu > Antergos > TrueOS > Mint > Manjaro > elementary
Never hear

suprised manjaro is so high

ubuntu > bsd > ubuntu
u wot?

W-where's Gentoo?

That was my point, so why were they grouped together?
Was op just dumb?

I see 10 shitty distros desu~

Attached: 1520711767661.png (2335x2335, 367K)

Gentoo is not very popular outside of memes, they are actually running low on portage package maintainers.
It's still a very good distro, and will likely outlast all the distro du jour shit in the OP.

I'm a newfag as far as linux goes, and I've been trying out a bunch of different distros.
a lot of them don't support my monitor setup without a shit ton of fiddling, and the blinky artifact thing drives me up the wall.
I've been diddling around w.linus on and off for near 20 years, and while it's much better now, most are not ready for widespread acceptance.
I will, however keep at it, because I wanna get off the windows once and for all.

What's hilarious is how often Manjaro users report bugs to Arch devs.

Probably a spambot.

MX is legit.

love mint. fuck the rest.

Used it for a few months, but updates broke it too often so I moved on.

This (even though i prefer debian these days). Jow Forums doesn't actually care about the security concerns it had in the past. They just hate any distro that tries make things easier on the end-user.

I'd say there's at least 7 despacitos

no they aren't. It's a list of page hits to a website
