I think I've been here since 2008, which means I've officially been here for a decade.
Everything has changed since then, the site is barely recognizable from what it once was, first with the fappening, then with 2016 spreading robot culture across Jow Forums. I wish we could turn back time.
2007, I don't know why I linger, but I cannot leave. Maybe some part of me is crazy enough to think that it'll get better again. For a while it did on Jow Forums, but all good things must come to an end.

Website as a cache of the database that never gets invalidated sure is a mixed bag.
11 years, I'm 22 right now so I pretty much grew up here.
There was no post timer or captcha then, and you could also hide .zips and java script worms in images before uploading if you knew what you were doing, you had to hit F5 to quikly refresh the page /b/ was the core of the site and had not yet been made irrelevant by 5 dozen topical boards. Jow Forums at the time was like many sites on the internet in that it was just a small/medium community among 100s or 1000s of small/medium communities, and I remember the boards having much more distinct "cultures" than they do now instead of everything being reduced pepes and wojaks. Generals weren't a thing and the only archive was 4chanarchive which only saved threads that were submitted and voted on, so you didn't have all of the mundane threads to sort through.
That isn't to imply that it was perfect, moderation could be bad as a result of it being either overbearing or non-existent, moot still made the occasional mistake in managing the community (forced user on /b/), and they way that anonymous behaved and characterized itself ultimately enabled the shitshow that was chanology.
I'd say things are worse now, but I can also recognize that what Jow Forums was in 2007, was a product of its time. If this site has a Golden Age again it won't look like the old days but rather be something of its own.

Whenever Jow Forums was made. Jow Forums has since grown into a disgusting mix of self-contained generals and Jow Forums circlejerking which is why I dumped it for Jow Forums.

Cloudflare has been a thing since 2007 IIRC, it's been here for a while.
I've been here since 2008, and the biggest changes for me were the radical departures in culture for the random boards. Both Jow Forums and /b/ are unrecognizable from what I first remember them, and not in a good way. For /b/, it obviously became just porn, but for Jow Forums a couple small aspects for it, the blogging and the frogging, both inflated to the point that now they're all the board cares about, and it seems to have permanently gotten stuck on those two topics for years now so there isn't any hope that either board will change into something that, if not better, is at least different, you know?
As far as boards I go to that didn't really change, there's /m/. Jow Forums is also largely the same and never became too self-conscious about itself the way that /tg/ did, but it also lost a bunch of useful namefags over the years.
I came here from 2009-2008ish, brought here by Minecraft classic and assuming that this site was the best way for Notch to communicate his ideas. Nothing needs to be said about what happened to /v/ since then, but I really wish that the sense of community had persisted.

I'm a 2013er who spent most of his time on /v/, and the biggest change I've noticed is how Pepe and Wojak, but mostly Pepe have leaked out out their containment boards and contaminate just about every part of the site. I miss when boards had their own unique culture and people trying to "mix" them got shouted down to lurk moar.

I joined around 2013 when Hispachan lost its steam. I lurked in Jow Forums a bit before deciding to try out /v/, but this place is the calmest for me.
Not gonna lie, I've only been here since late 2016, but I think I got lucky since the site actually improved a bit when Jow Forums first came out, only to slowly decline which is where we are today.

2012er here, another reject from the WoW OT forums after Blizz pulled the plug on us so we fucked off to /v/. Naturally, catalogues, /vg/ happening, the generation shift, GG, moot leaving were all major changes on the board, but I like to think out of all the major boards /v/ is the one with Jow Forums's "soul", after /b/ got nuked by porn.

/v/ would be better if it didn't have so much self-doubt. For a board that strives of supposedly speaking their mind, they let themselves get shut down the moment someone else calls their project "cringey".
One thing I love about Jow Forums is the zippy post timer compared to just about everywhere else. It makes this board usable.
Come to think of it, maybe that's why everyone whose still here uses it. It allows you to communicated much faster than /b/.
/b/ is pretty fast, if you'e talking about slow random boards, look no further than Jow Forums and /qa/, which are both a slog to participate in in comparison.

I'll probably be here until the end, there have been times when i thought the end was near but was ultimately proven wrong. And even on the couple occasions where i did take extended breaks from using the site i still felt an urge to come back
That's truly what I hate about the site and why I hope it does die some day, so all the other image boards could be given a chance. By centralizing image boards, Jow Forums has become in a sense what it hates.
8ch is next in the line for succession, and if Jow Forums dies you can bet hiro and the staff will migrate there and everyone else will follow suit because even thought it seems everyone hates the moderation they're what makes a site "official".
While it is true that Jow Forums's death would send its most avid users to other imageboards, remember that they probably wouldn't want a massive influx of people from here given how bad the cancer on the big boards is.

It says something that in spite of all the unpopular decisions, Jow Forums is still growing. The only way I see the site dying is if hiro or some other high-level staff did something illegal to shut it down, which given what less allegedly shady sites have been allowed to get away with, I see unlikely.
People think that, but Jow Forums shrank rather than grew as recently as 2014. It just takes a big enough unpopular decision to get people to recognize there are alternatives, even though some people really are slaved here.
All i really want is for Jow Forums to be out of the lime light or for english chans to no longer be dominated by 1 site
