This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
It's not like it's good. Rated -20/+40 spd I think, no hacking, no handwinding. But for $60, it's fine for the money. Others here will recommend a vostok, which is probably fine too. Or just get a cheap day/date quartz.
Justin Sanchez
Post watches in their perfect habitat. And watches set to current tide and moon phase.
I don't care if it's quartz or mechanical. I just want a day/date analog under $500 with no extra useless features that I'll never use and not too dressy for it to look out of place if I'm not wearing a suit.
Lucas Wilson
Watch out, the letter X is pretty controversial around here.
Adrian Price
Lose the X and change the hour hand and I'd agree.
Thanks. I really shouldn't be wearing it without servicing it but I'm going to an independent watchmaker showcase tonight so figured I should wear something nice. Not every day you get to try on a Daniels.
Hudson Miller
not shit, just unremarkable, it's a generic movement but if you like the look of it then why not
Lincoln Reyes
That's a good looking watch. IF the hands were a bit less dressy I'd buy one as a tool watch. What's the diameter?
Lucas Gomez
Nah, he wanted a real watch and not that shit.
Hunter Collins
Nice. Pics user, we want pics!
Daniel Hernandez
I like the Z-22. But what other straps I should consider?
>Not every day you get to try on a Daniels. That's really cool. Just try not to become a zombie like devotee of his movement design approach as a result, kek.
Tyler Stewart
>OP being this much of a wristlet
Are you literally 13 lol?
Juan Turner
Check out the SARB033 and 035, sounds like what you're looking for.
Joshua Rodriguez
Borealis natural rubber Bonetto Cinturini if you want something thinner.
Benjamin Stewart
They do look good but those don't have the day of the week, only the date.

I thought you didn't want extra useless features. Check out the SARY055 and 057, do note that they are physically larger though.
Brayden Lopez
>like the workings of mechanical watches >never learned to tell the time on a analogue watch
For me day of the week is infinitely more useful than a chronograph or a goddamn slide rule.
Adam Campbell
Yeah, I was thinking of an Isofrane-stlye strap too. I like the comfiness of the holed vintage NOS rubber strap on my commie-fibia, so I want something similar.
Not him but here are my thoughts on your post. Chronograph/rotating bezel are functions I use daily for timing things. Never owned a slide rule watch though know how to use one. Domt think I would use it often at all. Date is more useful than day for me and I use each daily but don't even notice if I am wearing a watch without the day. I do notice of I'm wearing a watch without a date. So I guess for me date > day.
Landon Peterson
>fat short hand is hour >thin long hand is (last hour * 5) + the marks it's passed beyond the big numbers. number is minutes >same rule as minutes for seconds I imagine many retards do it on the daily.
I kinda hated the budget-62MAS when it came out, but now it's starting to grow on me.
I kinda understand why they didn't use the original hands in the Prospex reissue, baton hands with a thin line of lume isn't exactly "professional" on a diver nowadays.
38mm. I love the hands, a nice compromise between dressy/tool to make the watch more versatile
Asher Smith
The Borealis ones are really comfortable for the style. I've seen lots of people say they like them better than actual ISOfrane straps. They aren't too expensive either at $25 USD.
I like the look but haven't looked into who makes good ones.
Oliver Miller
What's the waffling even for?
Thomas Phillips
I think uncle seiko make a modern made waffle strap true to the OG.
Jace Scott
Generally if I know the date, I know the day. Just seems redundant.
Xavier Reyes
Nothing as far as I can tell. I would guess the idea was it could stretch a bit better than a would strap so would compress and not become loose as you dove down.

Blog time: So my week was very successful horology wise, so far. On monday I have received to glashütte catalogue, and it's kinda special because I do actually, technically own a glashütte wristwatch. Put that catalogue next to vc, lange, c.f.b. one in my bar. Today, my first Japanese auction loot arrived. Pic related. >zenmarket >they promised 2 weeks of shipping, it was 1 week >packaging box was folded one mirrion times >got free newspaper pages within that might help me learn new kanjis The watches: >orient >¥4,600 I have now officially became the orient top-boy in /wt/, as this is the second r-a-r-e jdm orient in my collection. It runs nice so far, however I have yet to take measurements of it's accuracy. The day-change function is stuck tho. It may cost a pretty penny. But I won't mind because the watch is lovely. >g-shock >¥3,900 It's a jdm version that would gain a nice sum if I did some ebay resell magic, but I'd prefer to keep it eventho the condition is 6.5/10.
Whelp sent it back to jomashop this morning after sending them pic related and getting an RMA form. Let's hope they actually honor their warranty on it and either replace the watch or remove the hair.
I just happened to get mine in the mail a few minutes ago. This one is from Uncle Seiko. I'm also kind of mad they gave me a 10% off code after I already bought the damn strap from them so if you decide to buy one use the code WISDEAL.
It looks great, I think it fits the watch really well. It feels like alright quality, definitely way better than the cheap Seiko rubber straps but also nowhere near as nice as the B-22 strap that came stock with this watch and which is by far the best silicone/rubber strap I've handled. Also the holes are pretty far apart, so one is looser than I would like and the next one is tight enough to cut off circulation. I'm probably going to punch a hole in it, I guess.
Or before I do that, is there another brand that makes better waffle straps? I could return this and upgrade now that I know I apparently like the feeling of silicone way more than rubber.
Honestly I've seen so many people with fucking subs these past few weeks, from car salesmen to barkeeps, I'm gonna say DJ because it's at least not a fucking sub.
Although I suspect some car dealerships provide their people with those watches to wear while working.
Thomas Young
Reminder that my $300 rep has perfectly aligned everything.
Cameron Turner
Thank you double dubs wins. I see everyone with a sub these days.
Easton Bell
reminder to get the fuck out of this thread you cuck lunatic.
>see watch peeping out under sleeve >instantly recognize the case flanks and scalloped bezel grip indentations of a sub (or GMT, whatever) siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
You say it like there is something inherently wrong with owning commie watches. You know they are no worse than the run of the mill swiss of their times and in case of poljot for example much better.
