what is xorg and how does it work as simple as possible?

>Read
>Jow Forums is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site.
why mods don't ban all the consumerism / tech review threads that are spamming Jow Forums ? Or at least enforce one thread to contain all those /v/redditards

>how does it work
It doesn't.

>Xorg (commonly referred as simply X) is the most popular display server among Linux users
>A display server or window server is a program whose primary task is to coordinate the input and output of its clients to and from the rest of the operating system, the hardware, and each other. The display server communicates with its clients over the display server protocol, a communications protocol, which can be network-transparent or simply network-capable.
wew so hard to google.

/sqt/ is fine

desktop threads, speccy threads, or whatever thinly veiled desktop thread garbage there is, is not considered Jow Forums and should be fucking banned

but you don't complain about that, why ?

>processor
>Intel Core i5 8400
>memory
>8GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
>video card
>nvidia geforce gtx 1060
Are these acceptable specs for a prebuilt? I want something with a 1060 but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. And is it worth the $800 price point?

I'm using Adobe's standalone Flash Player on Linux Mint. Its menu has the option to add bookmarks, but not to remove them. I've not been able to find them in any folder I've thought to check, and searching on the internet (including adobe's forums) has proven to be pointless because I keep getting unrelated results.
Do any of you guys know where they're located?

There's more technology in /sqt/ and /dpt/ than on all the other threads together.
>but you don't complain about that, why ?
Desktop, speccy threads aren't a thing for a while now. Even tho, they have one thread and don't bother anyone. consumerism retards just spam threads over and over.
Next complain would be about all the the threads not related to technology that talks about political view of a company. Where's the tech in those threads ? not seen.

that should go in its containment thread >for a prebuilt
whatever

I have a pi zero linked via usb to my router port. I soldered a wifi dongle to it and both work if I use the router port to power them. When I use an usb charger on an outlet only the pi turns on and I can't connect to it with wifi (it works headlessly via ssh). what is happening here?

If you were to browse an imageboard from the command line, what would you prefer the UI look like? I'm thinking of sort of a list but maybe there would be the problem of readability. I can't think of any other option. Please Jow Forums I need inspiration.

Can the Ryzen 2200G or 2400G be used on a 4k monitor?
It would be for a facebook machine for my parents
facebook, 4k youtube, google earth, emails, movies, etc
no gaming
any 2400G owners here?

I don't understand it turns on only if I use this crappy cable. The charger isn't the problem, it's the cable..

>Desktop, speccy threads aren't a thing for a while now.

I see this abomination every day. It is not technology. It is not related to Jow Forums. It belongs to /wg/ and /trash/ because it's a fucking screenshot of wallpapers, icons and nothing else. Get that shit out of my fucking board.

>pic related

Anyone knows what the fuck is this retarded youtube logging?

It keeps doing it every 2 mins or so if i have a youtube tab open
And i feel like this shit is sometimes causing these mini "memory leaks"
(had like 10 background tabs with youtube, never touched them, noticed everyone one of them, when a hour went by, had like 200k-700k memory used)

Attached: youtubepls.png (1413x566, 148K)

it is telling you your adblock is blocking content right there

ofcourse

i'm trying to rice my i3 and was doing fine up until i got to this line:
>Simply pass the following values via JSON to i3bar:
can someone explain this line for me
WHAT IS JSON? where is i3bar config???

Okay I'm just stupid
If you use malloc, it stays there. So you return the pointer to that memory you malloc'd, and nothing will disappear.

I don't own a 2400G, but i'm in no doubt what so ever, that it can easily handle everyday desktop 4K/2160p.

At media usage, you'll need to look up on HDMI versions. As the older ones, up until recently, only supports 4k@24fps. But if both monitor and motherboard have a new revision, up 60fps should be handled very easily.

you'll want HDMI rev. 2.0 or newer in both units.

don't forget to lower the initial iGPU RAM in the BIOS, there's no need to dedicate 2Gb for facebook and word. I would go for 512kb, and i should increase it self if it need more.

>512kb

Attached: 1469215090159.png (280x246, 121K)

nvm, found the answer
though i don't know why he used backslashes in the example

Come on, read the post i was replying to.

Google Earth is the only thing he mentioned that would actually use ANY VRAM beside the bare minimum any GPU needs to send a frame to the monitor. 512kb as an initial setting is probably kinda high as it is.

As he lists word, emails, youtube and movies. It's clear that almost all usage of the RAM would be for traditional RAM, not VRAM. Based on these listings, i also conclude that he is not going to by 32gb of GSKILL KILLER WAR COMBAT LIMITED EDITION SUPERCHARGED V8 ram.

So saving all for memory is a good thing, now that bastards had taught parents to use Chrome and other shitty programs.

Does anyone have an idea to why my phone deletes sent messages faster than received.
Got an old brick phone with a folder for sent and received but the speed of deletion still seem weird.

Had such a phone ones, after a long time trying to figure out why, and find a setting to shut it off. I realized that was just how the engineers decided to save memory. It was a mid range phone, so it should have handled it okay. but i guess, when marketing orders engineers to make optimize phones for 1080p porn, SnapChat and whatever, that that's how they achieve it.

Should I get an optiplex SFF pc for doing NAS and general networking. Think I might eventually use it for firewalling / dns blocking also. Should I at least aim for an i3 CPU?

Are there any vpns that aren't botnet? I feel like vpns could track what you do.

How do I return plots with axis labels, titles, legend made with matplotlib from a function using python.

Does someone have resources for smartphone repairs? I don't mean for a specific model. I mean a guide that will tell me how a smartphone is built and what i generally have to watch out for.
E.g. i just found out the screen is actually two parts: the LCD display and a so called "digitizer".
I didn't know that, and i want a book/video/website that explains all this terminology to me

Jow Forumsentlman! I switched from apple to android today. so far its going ok but I would like a few recommendations for android apps to use

Go with brave browser. Adblock is built int. Runner up would be firefox with ublock origin plugin.

If I stream from PC to a 4k TV using a steam link, but the monitor connected to my PC is 1080p, will the image on my TV be 4k or 1080p? Also, if I were to change YouTube resolution to 4k, would I actually see the 4k?

New Xubuntu 18.04 install and launching netbeans is giving me this

How do you save a Jow Forums thread and web pages for later use?

But why is it so monstrous
Did the devs for youtube go full retard?

Can somebody walk me through building an eGPU for a T470 with Thunderbolt 3. I was already planning on getting a 1050 Ti and 550W PSU so I was thinking on just using those in some kind of Thunderbolt enclosure. Would that work?

I'm trying to get an offbrand DS4 controller to work for playing snes/gba games in *buntu, but steam nor ds4drv can detect it (using microusb). I usually use ds4windows to get the controller to work but ds4drv doesnt seem to be able to detect it. The entire first page of google results doesn't help, so i'm asking here.

Does anyone know the bonus structure for Dell Account Managers?

Like how much would need to be on the table for me to leverage into getting foot pics from my rep there?

Probably been answered before but wtf is going on, is Jow Forums down or is it clover? Some boards never update and almost none of the images load

in firefox: right-click and it shows up in the options.
chrome: i don't know

there are more sophisticated solutions using a program called wget, but that's probably not what you're asking?

What's the logic behind when the filter says "onions" and when it says "based"?

How do I buy windows 10?

with a facecam video of someone playing a video game, is it possible for my pc to have the game portion be in sync but the facecam portion out of sync?

is the audio coming in as just 1 stream?

Recently got a new laptop, and it has a c: drive called this pc with 93gb and a D: drive called data with 930gb. The thing is that all my folders and installations were put in the c drive which is small and only has 25gb left. When that fills up will it begin to continue into the d drive or just give me an error saying it's filled?

They are sent in the same encoding

Thanks.

As a bump i'll say ds4drv --hidraw doesn't do anything, just stays on "Scanning for devices", but when I plug it in, the LED flashes orange.

if im getting my sound through my gpu, what software is it associated with?

Looking for a budget tablet I can use for torrenting movies and series and use subtitles (I watch a lot of foreign movies) and do some light gaming as well as casual use for playing music, watching YouTube, browsing and social media.

I was thinking of buying something Windows but all their tablets are really high price range, so looks like I might have to go Android, as I don’t think torrenting or file management is possible on iOS.

Willing to buy used.

I'm using F-Droid and trying to check my updates, but I keep getting error getting index file.
What do I do?

Will a 1700 clocked at 3.2ghz perform like a stock 2700? I have to RMA the 1700 because segfaulting and I don't want to wait for the replacement so I'll have a 2700 tomorrow. I needed the threading and lower power consumption in case you are wondering why I went with the 65w.

UNINSTALL FDROID

I am ordering parts to repair my laptop with off of ebay, because its no longer under warranty. All of the sources seem to be from China
Is there anything I sould be aware of?

Bump

Guys, I need help with finding a filesystem.

I've stumbled upon a thing made probably by one guy which was supposed to be next-gen btrfs/zfs. A kind of marriage that mitigated the issues of the aforementioned two.

The obvious catch was that the thing is developed literally by one person. This is all I know, sorry.

Clover and Overchan are not displaying images at all for me. I can see images in my browser just fine.
Switching to wifi does nothing.

Wat do?

can sound sync get fucked up because of a glitch in the internet connection when the video/stream is loading and not because of a software or hardware issue on my pc?

How risky is uploading music to Soulseek without a vpn?

That's fixed in the latest Dev update, get the Clover Dev APK from Github.

not risky at all unless you live in a copyright dictatorship

I'm in the usa
So I should just put up all of the albums I have on there I guess?

Well if it's illegal, you shouldn't do it. If it is legal, you don't need to worry about using a vpn.

What exactly is Linux USB live boot and can I use it in any PC without interfering with the original OS?

I'm trying to cheat in a Linux game using gameconqueror/scanmem, but even though I run it as root, it can't attach to the game and errors out with "operation not permitted". How is that even possible?

to sort of piggyback on those posts, but i'm looking for a wireless receiver to use with an X360 controller i've got

completely legal of course :)

And reinstall? Or are you recommending deleting it forever and why?

Yes re-install

how do I stop 4chin from breaking CSS, I use both uMatrix and uBlockOrigin, internet says that uBlockO blocks the script and I should just turn off uMatrix and let uBlock do its thing, should I?

Thanks friend.

anyone?

Trying to install xubuntu on my acer aspire 5535, cant boot from anything but hard drive because it just tells me to remove disks and media devices... seen people say to disable secure boot in the bios to sort it out but my bios doesnt even have the option to do so...........

Does anyone have a way to get around this telling me to remove the usb? Or do I stick to vista

Is there a list of GPU fan connector types somewhere? Every fucking store image of a fan never really specifies what the fan connector is

Does anyone here use LineageOS with Xposed? I'm having a problem with a module.

I need a program to search for text in tens of thousands of small files (XMLs, txts etc).

It'd be cool to find a program with lots of separate search criteria to help limit the search numbers (e.g. filename like, date modified between X and Y, text like/not like and similar filters).

Anyone have any programs come to mind?

why does the GTX 780ti consume more power than the GTX 1080?

Older tech...

How do I become more technologically intelligent?

I was talking to somebody at geek squad and we held a good back and forth.

Should you really unplug everything from your pc ( including the PSU) when messing with the hardware in it? As I understand it you should leave it plugged in so in case of discharge the current will flow to ground. Have I always put my pc at risk by leaving it plugged in while I work in it?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1920x1080, 149K)

I literally had to install MIMIREADER last night because I cannot go to sleep without shitposting. It has adds mixed in with the threads in the index or catalog, they're pretty obvious but you might still click them accidentaly, not a great browser.

so when i woke up this morning neither my smart roku tv which uses my wifi, or my pc which uses wired internet can access netflix. my pc wont even load the site but has no problem loading any others. i was using netflix on my tv just last night without issue

im the only one in the house that is having this problem and ive done everything i can think of.

what the fuck

My Android screen got broken really badly. Everything is all distorted, can't do anything with it but the phone still works.

There are a lot of programs to connect it to a Mac and transfer files, but all of them require giving permission from my Android, which I can't do because the screen doesn't work.

What are my options?

Sometimes you can plug mice into android phones, if you can atleast see what you are doing to unlock it (or can guess where to press) you might have a chance

Yes, but I doubt I can help you with a module specific problem.

you can easily create a bash script for that.
find can search for file names
grep can directly look at the content of the file

How can I kill the ridiculous bloom in Far Cry 5? I swear it's baking my retinas.

>Linux USB live boot
Boots image to RAM, boots from RAM to an installer or desktop. Literally the same does the Windows installer (but doesn't boot to DE).
> I use it in any PC without interfering with the original OS?
As long as you don't do shit with with partitions - yes.

I'll often open it up to fiddle with something while it's running

Honestly just exercise common sense. Obviously to actually mess around with components you'll want it to be off, and ideally power should be cut. I think pretty much all modern PSUs have a switch, so if you turn that off the pc will still be grounded but no power will flow.
Make sure you also ground yourself obviously.

How can I make a USB zip disquette, that can boot into different Live CDs isos?

Had anyone here taken the AP CSP test last year? Can you tell me if it is easy or hard?

Good questions. I always assumed you'd just partition it, but never actually tried it. Let's see what someone who isn't a brainlet has to say

for short, you take a USB key, make it bootable, and put a linux distribution on it.
Most of the time people have a bootable iso so you can install a linux distro on your hard drive. Some people directly install linux on it so they always have it with them
> without interfering with the original OS?
don't mount the partition or don't be retarded

I don't want to DD partitions and then GRUB somehow.
I want grub to boot from iso, but not in meme-disk mode.
