Thanks user

Ubuntu 18 and GIMP 2.10 what a great day today will be

>still no gtk3
will we have gtk4 by the time they port gimp?

Gimp for 18.04 is still 2.8 but they should eventually release a backport or if you don't want to wait compile it yourself

Next release is 3.0 which will be the gtk3 release. They have mentioned they might just wait until gtk4 comes out and skip gtk3 entirely but they're not sure right now.

>After 6 years of >hard work gimp is what it should have been 10 years ago

Whoa so this is the power of open source

Go shitpost somewhere else

>gimp skips gimp toolkit releases

wew

>it's out boys
>btw no windows installer yet

>what'd he mean by this?

Do they finally have non-destructive editing?

Attached: 1524371504527.jpg (817x1024, 79K)

Photoshop was already deprecated by Krita, at least for digital artists.
>can't even map a hotkey to rotate the canvas a few degrees
>have to enter "rotate mode" and drag the canvas yourself, which sucks with a mouse or graphics tablet
dropped

What a POS where is the windows installer you fucks.

I use GIMP every day at work and I want to play with the new version fuckers.

holy shit im halfway through the notes this is so good

gtk4 will still be unstable for 2 years after they release it. Gnome project plans on breaking it every 6 months

> Each 6 months, the new release (Gtk 4.2, Gtk 4.4, Gtk 4.6) will break API and ABI vs. the release that came before it. These incompatible minor versions will not be fully parallel installable; they will use the same pkg-config name and the same header file directory.

pleasing movements for the council aorten, great moments, there shall be bravery from within

>Photoshop is deprecated

GIMP has never been able to approach even basic photoshop 3.0 compatibility, and GIMP has been deprecated by paint.net for 10 years now. people still use fucking GIMP? One of the saddest pieces of software I ever saw, just a pretender that can't do things that its interface would suggest.

Paint.net has photoshop 3.0 type functionality

Did they fix the garbage interface?

Looks like modern Photoshop now, check the changelog.

why would anyone use gtk4 then?

>not already having the RC installed

You'll probably have to wait 2 days before someone builds it haha

Attached: GIMP-RC2-Screenshot.png (1440x870, 190K)

I guess for new features after the gnome project stops breaking it and moves onto gtk5.

can it draw a circle yet?

Just out of curiosity, how would this be built on windows. Would it just be a matter of using gcc as per cygwin and having the necessary libraries available and referenced in a makefile?

If you enjoy it and you can afford to donate a few pennies, consider clicking on that thing right here

Came here to ask this

Waiting for the windows 10 installer version to be released.
I really don't know how to compile these nerd things like you niggers.

I'll care upgrading when gmic.eu/download.shtml will be ported
I don't care about colour management in GIMP to be honest, we already had different tools for that
also, I actually prefer the old interface

Your opinion is garbage

Tried the rc on windows, it's still the same garbage. No reason to replace photoshop.

Should only take a few days, user

Pretty cool tool user. Thanks for sharing it.

>after 6 years all they could manage to do was steal photoshop's GUI
so this is the power of open sores

Yeah don't malign the rest of Open Source just because GIMP is complete shit

From the looks of it the UI has gotten much better in 2.10

Anyone else think the mypaint brushes are pretty cool?

I believe in arguments; I provided some, you provided none like the average angsty teen. I didn't mean to shit on it, I use it and I've detailed why I won't hurry for this upgrade.
I'll add even more: making rawtherapee and darktable as gimp plugins (just to open raw files) is a mistake. Different specialized tools are required, especially while handling raw files. Turning GIMP into the jack of all trades it has never been in its whole history is a mistake. There's finally an usable live transform, warp transform and some "initial support" to other features. This alone doesn't really justify a version bump.
Here's your complimentary (You).
You're welcome, it's ages better than any GEGL and its independent engine doesn't have some of the GEGL limitations.

Photoshop wins again.

Laugh all you want cuntbag, you'll never get my goat.

thanks for that dude.

>botnet application wins by supporting a botnet OS
If you say so

>also, I actually prefer the old interface
You can change the theme and set it to multi-window easily

They didn't even steal photoshops GUI and the majority of the things from this release are backend related and have nothing to do with the interface. Its still UGLY as fuck. It's just dark now.

github.com/doctormo/GimpPs
So is something like this depreciated now?

gimp.org/downloads/

>GIMP for Windows

>There is no Windows installer yet, sorry. Please check back later.

DROPPPED

the state of Jow Forums, everybody

That's planned for 3.2. ETA: ~12 years.

I wish I was kidding.

Can you draw a square yet

I want to laugh, but I can only cry.

Did anyone install it via flatpak?
I get version 2.8.22

>workflow is still destructive
>still no content-aware fill replacement

I could go on but those two are ridiculously important for me since I work on scanlations.

lmao a random nobody could probably learn programming from scratch and write a better replacement than GIMP in that time.

lol what the fuck am I reading?
The idea behind this versioning is insane.

GNOME/Gtk developers are literally retarded.

Notice how 99% of the comments are in criticism of it, and unsurprisingly
>The comments are now closed

All I want is a GIMP to have the level of features that Photoshop CS2 offered in 2005.

Just use a ruler as a guide for your mouse, moron.

>workflow is still destructive

What are layers?

>All I want is a GIMP to have the level of features that Photoshop CS2 offered in 2005.
Better luck finding someone to write a cleanroom open source clone of CS2 for ReactOS.

>can't tranform or warp text without rasterizing it

>torrents and doesn't code
>has the nerve to shit on others

Nice. Hope the HiDPI interface is actually usable unlike VLC 3.0

What's wrong with my bost?

Well gonna wait for the tablet update hopefully it turns out good.

>uses normie OS
>uses the autism photoshop
what are you even doing

winfags on suicide watch

>it's a "autistic hipster schizos pretend to be superior" kind of post

Krita confuses me. I edit sprites with GIMP.

>still no content-aware fill replacement
logarithmic.net/pfh/resynthesizer
iirc this is has been around since before photoshop even had it

>use a raster editor
>complain that it rasterizes your text

>All I want is a GIMP to have the level of features that Photoshop CS2 offered in 2005.
never used photoshop but what features would those be exactly

awesome, can't wait until I can download it with pacman (I use arch)

This has already happened twice. The results are called "Krita" and "Paint.net".

Gimp was gimped from the start

Attached: 1524203605393.jpg (480x360, 9K)

GIMP confuses me, I use Krita. Weird. I don't think we'd get along if we met in real life.

Attached: 1524537078182.jpg (352x343, 26K)

Wow, they got transforms and a gradient tool (in 2018!), now only gotta get other 9000 features to compete.
Ok, fine, I want a vector-raster editor, else it's not comparable to Photoshop.

Attached: 1524098065282.jpg (384x433, 26K)

Good luck running that on Linux/macOS/BSD. Also, who would ironically use GIMP on Windows?

>vector-raster editor
violates the unix philosophy, programs should do one job and do it well
>I don't care I want someone to magically pull complex software out of their ass and give it to me for free
why do all photoshop users have this whiny mentality? is this the way you get adobe to do things?

Have you tried inkscape? It's GPL.

Krita is amazing for digital paintings

CS2 was a good release, very stable. Its arguable that features after CS2 are not entirely necessary.

download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.10/windows/

You can still grab the rc2 version for windows here

Just install 2.10.0 RC1 you moron.
That's what i'm doing.

Will it get a non-shit logo?

>implying GIMP itself isn't already a one big unix philosophy violation
also pirates do it for free
That's just vector.

Well gimp does more than one job.

Use an 1:1 elipse, dummy.

user I'm not sure I understand what that tool does.Could you explain?

I know without even checking that the retarded developers behind this garbage won't have implemented any of the features that would actually be fucking useful. No easy way to add effects to layers, no easy manipulation of text, a shitty GUI where the tools are all in an unordered pile, toolbars that disapear when you restart and require you to fuck around in the options, ugly toolbars and icons, no feature parity with any mainstream image manipulation program from the last ten years.

There are free apps for Android and iOS, programmed by pajeets, that have better feature sets and GUIs that the morons behind GIMP have been capable of creating in fucking decades that they've been "working" on this shit.

No one will use GIMP: not artists, not photographers, not regular users that just want to do basic shit like crop and put multiple things on a canvas. The only people who will use this are the Linux cultists who use it because it comes with their distro and they "support FOSS"

And the worst thing? If GIMP didn't exist then someone would have made an open-source clone of Photoshop out of necesity by now, but GIMP's "good enough" in the eyes of most fucktards and so nobody ever will. GIMP is like the software equivelant to that shitty fucking Communist car that they had in East Gernany before the wall fell.

nice pasta

It was a bitch to compile but it sure looks nice

lol at the Arch kids flagging gimp out of date but can't get it yet

Attached: Screenshot_2018-04-27_22-07-47.png (1920x1080, 176K)

It is ugly in black. Classic white is less shitty.

Trabant had performed better in Moose test than capitalists MB A-klasse.
If it had normal engine with normal petrol tank it would be 10/10 car for the time. Plastic panels, FWD...

>not using paint.net

I shiggy doo

>toolbars that disapear when you restart and require you to fuck around in the options, ugly toolbars and icons, no feature parity with any mainstream image manipulation program from the last ten years.
was with you up until here

OS?

you know that GNU tools explicitly violate the Unix philosophy
it's even in the name -- GNU's Not Unix

seriously, Stallman did his actual work when he was still an actual productive programmer in an entirely different culture to the folks using Unix
he only bothered with cloning Unix because it was popular and simple

also, there are tons and tons of reasons to be able to draw a circle in a raster editor
doing a nice, filled, bordered, antialiased circle in GIMP is an annoying task (there's a half-assed shape drawing plugin -- that uses its own weird interface -- to make it less fucking absurd to deal with)

Any artfags tried it out yet?

Mainly use csp, I doubt gimp will give me any extra functionality but it'd be nice to know if its a free program thats up to par.
