Lenovo

Literal chinkshit.
Why pay $2000+ USD when this shit happens? Nice "flagship"

>buying modern ThinkPads
Especially now that the newest ones have soldered RAM and SSDs, proprietary ethernet ports(!!!), and non-removable batteries... there is NO fucking reason to buy one. Not a single reason.

I'm seriously going to have to buy a modified Chinese T60 in a few years using engineering sample CPUs since there are no more good business-class laptops anymore. They're all basically MacBook clones.

I will NEVER let Lenovo live this down.

A small Chinese company of enthusiasts took the original T60 chassis and modified it with modern internal components, including customizing the chassis for new ports, calling it the T70:
>high-resolution 4:3 IPS screen (e.g. 1600x1200, 1400x1050, etc.)
>Intel Core i7 HQ CPU (Kaby Lake) (e.g. i7-7700HQ, i7-7300HQ, i7-7820HQ, etc.)
>16GB RAM, upgradable to 32GB
>256GB SSD

The reason for the variations in specs is because they manufacture them in batches. You must pay out the ass for that, right? Taken directly from their specs of one:
>7300HQ + 16GB RAM + NVME 256GB + 1600x1200 UXGA screen = $1350 USD

They also sell the mainboards alone for like $700-800.

FUCK LENOVO. FUCK YOU NIGGERS IN THE ASS. FUCK YOU ALL. I HOPE CHAIRMAN XI HANGS ALL YOU FAGGOTS

Lenovo's been shit for years. Their high end Yoga 900 ultrabooks had a rampant screen wake up bug. A $1400 laptop that gets a black screen if you let it go to sleep

IBM Thinkpads were da bomb. Anything made by the Chinks post-unit sale to Lenovo were shit.

No ThinkPad enthusiast is defending modern ThinkPads. For newer hardware, I will likely choose System76.

Thinkautists of every era need to kill themselves.
Just get a fucking clevo and shut the fuck up.

This. Have a low end safer (clevo rebrand) from like 2008. Still going strong except the battery

>clevo
Those fuckers are built out of model airplane plastic

>buying 2000+ craptops.

Are these the 51nb people?

>broad brush

It's not really that simple. Lenovo was mostly fine up until the xx30 series Thinkpads. You still had all the good stuff left over from IBM (screen latches, rollcage, UltraBay, user-replaceable batteries). Things started to go downhill with the xx40 machines but there were still some very good choices. Now most of the line is shit, even the P-series machines suffer from hardware faults that are inexcusable on professional workstations.

I have a classmate who actually uses a Galago Pro and to be honest I am not very impressed. The keyboard is kind of spongy, and there is no trackpoint equivalent, which is kind of a dealbreaker for me. I would rather have a Dell Latitude or Precision.

How's the Ideapad line of laptops?

What happened?

What abotu battery life? With older thinkpads you can get 4 hours at most. With modern thinkpads you can get like 12.
I agree that older thinkpads are better in most regards, but the battery life is what ruins it for me.

???

And? ABS was originally an engineering plastic known for its toughness and ability to recover from shock and impacts. Somewhat thick ABS is better than paper thin aluminum in durability and as light or lighter because it's significantly less dense. The fact toys use it has to do with how cheap and easy it is to produce and mold. It's basically a modern super material

You're talking about the X1 ultrabooks I assume?

Real Thinkpads don't have those problems.

>Are these the 51nb people?
Looks like it.

>$2000
literally who the fuck would ever do that? for any laptop lol

they took her

Whats with all the Thinkpad hate? Yes /tpg/ is full blown autistic homofags but I copped a brand new P50 for 1k off of eBay a few months back.

>m2000m 4GB
>256 gb ssd
>16gb ram
>6280HQ 2.6 ghz

Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me.

I would, if it's better than any other laptop in that price range.

Not everybody is poor you know?
Plus it would be a business expense, so it's only like paying $800.

System76 uses hardware from a Chinese wholesaler that's worse than Lenovo.

>ThinkPad enthusiast
At least you know you're not shilling them because you're a utilitarian, I guess

Jow Forums is full of Apple fanatics who hate anything non-Apple, and NEETS who hate anything that costs money.

Modern Thinkpads and Dell Latitudes are best laptops money can buy at the moment.

nice smothering campaign, shill
Second hand Lenovo is the best laptop to buy

>shill
>hating Lenovo

This is just the low end thinkpads. Just get a p51, has removeable ram, ssd, batteries, anything you would want.

Only people who look like pic related buy anything other than Dell Latitudes

Attached: 1519169023589.png (403x448, 53K)

Is there a modern Latitude with quad core CPU?

That's the reason I went for a Thinkpad, 2 years ago.

where do you find this?
I kind of regret not buying it instead of building my current clevo laptop.

When what happens? Is the pic showing some kind of problem?

I don't see it either.

>Somewhat thick ABS is better than paper thin aluminum in durability and as light or lighter because it's significantly less dense.

too bad people care about volume as well as weight

the only thing ABS is good for is lego

Looks to me like the rubberized coating is peeling off along the bottom edge. I can understand how that would upset someone who bought a premium product, but I also doubt this guy has put in a warranty claim and just went straight to bitching.

>people care about volume

This is the real reason all current laptops suck.

Without the thin meme modern technology would have been glorious.

>This is the real reason all current laptops suck.
They don't suck. Portability is the driving design feature of a laptop. The 12-13" fanless laptop is the pinnacle of laptop design and you're a retard if you disagree. The fact is that a laptop like that suits the needs of the majority of people who need a laptop. You need to come to terms with the fact that your use case is actually niche and fuck off.

>fanless

Another stupid meme.
Why would prefer throttling over some fan noise?

Your point on the missing track point is something that I considered, but I wasn't interested in a HP EliteBook since I didn't like the configurations, and fuck Dell.

I'm not worried about it being Chinese, it's Lenovo's current designs that just suck. And yes, I get that ThinkPads are not the best option for people that want something with new hardware.

>majority of people who need a laptop.
They don't need a laptop, tablet or phone will do for them.

>Jow Forums is so autistic they can't even properly look up a review before buying a laptop

there's a reason Jow Forums shills for older thinkpads

There is no point arguing with people here.
Majority people in this board are far away from reality.

Look at this user, he has reality made in his brain that nobody needs a laptop while majority of people are buying laptops because of portability and they need this portability for school work travelling etc.

>buying anything from Lenovo newer than the X/T230 generation

This is a japanese 12" tablet (detachable) in the year 2018. And it weights 550g without keyboard.

Microsoft surface in a nutshell

No, latitudes are now all ULV gimpchips, you'd have to go with a Precision for that.

>I will NEVER let Lenovo live this down.
I bet they are proper scared now.

Is there anyone left in the industry who makes good laptops at this point? who am I going to buy from when the hinge of my cheap Dell Inspiron brakes? I'm not sure if that piece of crap is going to last past this year.

You're assuming a performance SKU in a laptop. Again, the truth is that application performance hasn't been an issue for nearly a decade in the desktop, and it's not an issue in mobile anymore, either, as evidenced by this post. That user would be right except that lots of people still need a keyboard to type on.

That's nearly twice the thickness of my laptop, and it does actually matter. I carry a lot of things in my bag and I don't want it to be any bulkier than it needs to be. Any time I use it, I need a keyboard. For uses where I don't need a keyboard, I use my phone. All that IO is, in most cases, a waste of money and space. Most users are well-serviced by a 3.5mm jack, one or two USB ports, one or two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, and an HDMI port. Anything more has adapters available, or a niche laptop like the one you posted.

Also
>it's good because it's Japanese
Fuck off weeb

They're alright. My Y500-15 had utter dogshit battery life, but the 2GB gpu w/ i7 7500 was nice at the time.

And which $2000+ USD model is this again?

WHAT???????
ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT RUBBER SHOWS WEAR?????
ESPECIALLY ON EDGES WHERE THERE'S LOTS OF FRICTION WITH YOUR AUTISTIC MESSENGER BAG????
NO.
FUCKING.
WAY.

Attached: mpv-shot0022.jpg (1030x1070, 146K)

You're point is valid but OPs is too if that's a $2000 laptop. My $500 laptop looks better than that after 3 years.

is your laptop coated in rubber?

Where can i find T70?

>falling for the post-xx30 era thinkpads meme

get a T420 like a real man.

Attached: lesmuganimefaceatincredblyhihgrez.jpg (2296x2464, 285K)

If ~1cm more makes your bag bulky maybe you should get a bigger bag? I don't get this thin meme. Sure, it's cool that laptops aren't 10cm thick but when going below 1.5cm I would be worried about trade-offs (durability, thermals, serviceability). I don't care how big a laptop in my bag is at all, I'm only worried how high the keyboard is when placed down and how grippable it is.

>real man
>post xx00

Is there a laptop with metal casing that isn't soda can aluminum? That it's some other metal and still a decent laptop otherwise? I once had a HP laptop with some other metal but the bottom was still plastic. They should have one with metal bottom as well by now.

>ordering a custom chinese laptop
back in my day we used to try to AVOID the botnet. not willingly pay money for it

Don't blame Lenovo for realizing whats profitable. Blame the consumers and companies lowering the bar.

I DID NOT READ YOUR REPLY

X1's don't have soldered SSD's

> not having an xxx1

Oh I meant to include them.

Hey retards, nuthinkpads are coated in rubber that wears off
this isn't some major design flaw or whatever

it's got a loud ass fan

Literally no difference between Lenovo and IBM. Shills plz go.

T430 then.

I like Toughbooks, myself.

>proprietary ethernet ports

?

Not him but I have a T430 at home and I just keep using my X230 all the time because it feels a lot better. It's sturdier and has an IPS display. The T430 feels more plasticy even when they are almost the same product. There are creaky and hollow echoing spots in the body which X230 doesn't have. Also I don't have an IPS display on it so it's not as nice to look at. I'm using my X230 right now.

does it libreboot still ?
if yes i'll buy one for sure

T420 is for chumps. X220 are for real men.

Meanwhile, at Microsoft

We are getting T470S lately and soldered ram was a pretty surprising discovery when we needed to upgrade ram for few executives.
considering switch to dell possibly, although dell is shit as well

>haha I don't take care of my shit and I'm surprised when it gets fucked up
>I'm too poor to spend $100 on a new keyboard

Many no longer have ethernet ports, but rather a dongle that does.

Oh dear, a sacrifice made to achieve the goal of supreme thinness I take it?

My T420 gets around 6-7 hours with the 9 cell and quadro disabled, but with older thinkpads you can just carry around a spare battery

What, you don't own a soldering iron? Fucking normies...

> Real Thinkpads don't have those problems.
wat? The ThinkPad X280 has soldered ram, ethernet only via dongle, and a single non-removable battery for instance.

>Plus it would be a business expense, so it's only like paying $800.
> Has literally no idea how his taxes work.

Only when I use it in BDSM.

Yes, there has been for years.

still kickin' with mine over here with mine (t420s tho)

just a simple ssd upgrade and some more ram and it's still pretty good even with a second gen vpro i5

>Puts keyboard through washing machine
>Is surprised this happens
There's no other plausible way for this to occur, unless if you're being an actual retard.

X280 is not a real ThinkPad since X240.
T480 doesn't have any of these problems.

What? No, there were no rollcages in IBM models. Lenevo was the one who turned metal chassis into plastic piece of junk with rollcage, in order to reduce the costs for T series. After this *invention*, ThinkPads became much heavier, thicker, and less durable ofc.

t. manlets

>$100 on a new keyboard

Attached: 1524901746535.jpg (598x465, 187K)

>island keys
Absolutely disgusting.

you can buy a classic keyaboard and fix that problem. 25 bucks.

You're not supposed to spend 2k on chinkshit
you're supposed to buy used thinkpads for $200 and enjoy the fact that they are literally just as good as any new "flagship" because intel refuses to innovate their cpus
if you *really* want to burn money for some fucking reason, go with a surfacebook or a razer blade/stealth

>does it libreboot still ?
If you have to ask this you probably can't Libreboot a machine any way. The answer should be obvious.

No. Nuvoton EC. No Core/Libreboot support.

>Are these the 51nb people?
yes

weidian.com/item.html?itemID=2126114206&spider_token=339b&spider=seller.zx-shopdetail.5.2

yeah even the surface pro 3+ managed to fit decent active cooling inside

literally how. mine has survived 2 years with daily garage use and being wiped down with brake cleaner and it looks fine
