The protocol 9p? Not really, I tried setting up my VPS as a file server, but plan9port doesn't support dp9ik or whatever it's called so it's pretty much useless. Drawterm is enough to transfer files.

unfortunately you can't really choose the IM programs you'll use. It's either use what people do, or don't talk to people.

You can get close friends to install better programs just to talk to you, but it's unpractical to do that with people you barely know/don't know yet.

It's an aesthetic choice. If you need a ton of screen space to work then you just switch to floating or monocle
