This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, Casio aq230, clock, or other timepiece.
Yeah that would be nice but I am not ready to spend any money on this shitter, especially considering how bad it’s keeping time. I’m just playing with it desu.

I want to ask you guys. If I buy a used watch, with papers and everything... and I still want to be sure that it's authentic, can I go to a certified watch store and have them look at it, and they will spot any irregularities easily? How sure can I be?
Owen Wood
Ask the armchair horologists at wg of course
Aaron Green
>CASIO GANG edition OK. Here's the hot new Casiomeme then.
What? Just never bought anything used before and I'm scared to death about being fooled.
Ian Hernandez
I’m going to swap the back lights in my ae1200,any suggestion for color? I’ll probably put polarizing film on it if that would change anything also I have the silver one with a black and grey NATO.

Why.... The light works very well on that one in any dim setting

>Casio gang Wearing my jdm g-shock after having a nice nutritios launch with my family, in a calm suburban neighborhood
I ordered the version that looks like the F91 as well because I want to see if the gray screen is more legible in low light conditions than the biege/sand colored screen.
Colton Ortiz
That one was 30$ on amazon for no reason but I saw it too
Christian Rodriguez
I don’t like orange that’s literally the only reason
Depends on the brand. Some brands are very easy to convincingly fake (e.g. Non in-house Panerai) and others are basically impossible to fake in a way that would pass a movement inspection (eg Rolex, due to the free sprung balance).
Parker Morales
What are you buying? Some watches are more faked than others.
Ethan White
i was able to finish this part last week. took a lot of tries, and i eventually chose another approach. instead of bending the finger like the original part, i decided to fit a pin instead, and that proved to be sufficient.
In that case, an inspection of the movement by a watchmaker to check that the movement is an Omega co-axial will prove if its real.
Isaac Turner
Ok. Also, the seller will be identified in this process (well, he already is) and the sale is electronically logged due to the advertisement and the messages, so if he is trying to fool anyone with fake watches and get caught he will face the concequenses. I mean, this makes me think that someone would not dare to try a scheme like that. But then again, you would have to prove that it's a fake watch, which you are saying is no big deal at all, if I understand you right.
Joshua Bennett
another chance, it's used and already up to what that user got one for yesterday though
You know how people say you can check for a genuine Casio by holding down the right button? Why don't the fakers just fake that as well?
Joshua Lopez
i have some more,
this was a broken screw that was stuck in the bridge. i had to punch it out, and then rethread the hole to a larger size. didnt manage to finish the screw this week though.
It's no big deal to prove a Seamaster with a co-axial Omega movement is real or fake because no one even tries to fake the co-axial escapement in the movement. So, the instant a watchmaker gets the back cover off, they'll know for sure if it's real or fake.
Anthony Butler
Nice to see some legitimate watchmaking in this thread, and on a weekend no less.
if the value of automatic watches are in the artistry of the mechanism, why are movements like ETA any better than quartz?
Isaac Brown
They are not.
Nathan Miller
>if the value of automatic watches are in the artistry of the mechanism, why are movements like ETA any better than quartz? They don't need a battery and can run if electricity were no longer so easy to come by
they need servicing though which is more involved and often more frequent than battery changes. If electricity is no longer easy to come by we have a lot bigger problems than wristwatches
Joshua Perry
>more frequent than battery changes lamo
Grayson Wright
>not having quartz and mechanicals As expected of a retard robot.
>Ronda standard battery rated for 5 years >ETA 2824-2 recommended service period 4 years even if I'm generous and making the service 6 years, its still a lot more time consuming and costly than switching in a new $5 battery
James Taylor
Mechanical movements generally run reliably for much much longer than the service intervals suggest, while a quartz just straight up dies when the battery runs out.
Hunter Clark
>more time consuming and costly than switching in a new $5 battery this part I agree with, however most watches will need a battery change every 2-3 years and you have to service a mechanical every 10-15 years, imo
Jose Cook
wasn't it a chinchilla?
John Perry
Dude. Watch batteries last 5 plus years in most watches. Casio states that their wave ceptor models work for 6 years with 30 seconds light use and 5 minutes of chrono use per day. And that’s receiving signal every night.
>5 plus years hasn't been my experience, Casio is an exception rather than the rule
John Robinson
but that's not really an issue when its a 5 minute job to fix every 5 years. Compared to sending off your mechanical for months
Juan Reed
nice tool watch
Jacob Wright
just to add, I'm not arguing that mechanicals are superior, obviously quartz is, but that's not the reason people buy mechanicals
Christian Bailey
>wearing a gold watch >wearing a silver watch disgusting
Michael James
Either one is ok.
Anthony Reyes
I'm not saying otherwise.

Any recommendations on suede straps? I need a nice blue 18mm suede.
Camden Gutierrez
I think the batteries in this particular model was quite large as well. Not just the little button cells. I'm pretty amazed that Casio now produce solar powered watches with bluetooth. That's hella efficient electronics there! I'm surprised there aren't more Edifice watch posted here due to their amazing functionality.
Kayden Parker
I'm also interested in blue straps regardless of material. Please post cool blue straps you have
Jason Myers
>functionality not everybody needs that, personally for me those functions are superfluous, kinda more hassle than it's worth. It's like phone controlled lights in the house. I find that too much technology gets annoying, desu
Oliver Kelly
>I'm surprised there aren't more Edifice watch posted here due to their amazing functionality. Wearable tech is cool in some ways, but it's not timekeeping technology, which probably explains the lack of interest.
Yea I know but this is Jow Forums and the edifice range is the most electronically advanced watches going short of smartwatches. I wouldn't wear an Edifice but they're pretty good value and acceptable looking. I used to have this one and it served me well for many years.
