Wait, what? Do you keep a ton of games and CAD software open 24/7 or something? On 8GB I never have to close a damn thing and I generally have plenty of tabs open, photoshop, Logic Pro X, web design software, and Minecraft to do shit during downtime. All of this running smoothly and I don’t even check my RAM usage because 8GB is fucking tons.

My normal RAM usage is about 6-7GB while just doing idle web browsing. I don't want to close all my shit if I want to play a game.

Because why close shit and wait for them to reopen when you can leave them running in the background and open them instantly, not taking advantage of this is RAMlet/CPUlet thinking.

I run virtual machines and I got cucked with 16gb of ram. Should've went with 32gb or 64gb.

The only reason I went from 4gb to 8gb was so I can have more gelbooru and rule34 tabs open without closing my ERP simulator FFXIV.

I only open the programs I need, I just never close them to save time opening later. I also sleep my computer instead of shutting down for the same reason

go load up every single thread on lets say /e/ then realize that saving the page images included takes up less than 10mb of space, shit will eat 10+gb and make the browser un useable

chrome may eat ram, but stress testing like that and the browser is still functional is a KEY reason I can't move off it.

close all the tabs in chrome and it gives up most of the ram, do that in ff and it still is barely functional not giving up any ram.

chrome will easily eat all my ram if I let it, but I have been fairly good at getting it under control recently.

2GB is still the comfiest, IMO. You learn to appreciate lightweight and optimized applications. And Firefox never goes above 1.5GB because it literally can't. I have 16GB currently and the damn thing never goes below 40% in use. And I can still crash apps with ease. Yes, 16GB is nice, but it just leads to lazy and unoptimized applications, because fuck you, buy more RAM.

I have these systems and i work within their means that said my 2GB machine can't run facebook or google like at all very well with out shutter and locking up.
my 2008 machine just cuts the mustard but it won't be long until that can't run google because its always at 80% bloody useage C2D still hanging in there.

I should probably clarify that the laptop is DDR3 that I spent almost nothing on($180 on a shitty Beats-branded HP with a touchscreen that I stuck 2x4GB in and sold for $240 while putting the 2x8GB into an HP Envy with an i5 3337U) on both 8GB sticks 2 years ago. I could probably sell them for more than that _today_ and not even feel bad about switching back to the original 2x4GB kit I had in it.
