VLCs video decoding is terrible. It makes videos look like they taken from DVDs dragged through mud.

VLC is shit because mpv exists. It's simply faster, more responsive, wastes less screen size on useless gui elements and break video into blocky grayscale if the video got paused for a few minutes.

Firefox is slower than chrome, in mt experience. I've used firefox for years and recently noticed when visiting Jow Forums homepage it will load the webpage normally, then load extensions like oneechan and X, then go into catalog mode. Which takes probably 3 or 4 seconds more compared to chrome.
I tried switching to chrome but I just fucking hate the interface and the lack of customization you can do. I wanted to turn predictive typing off in URL in chrome so I disabled it but it still pops up because it's taking predictions from both my history and bookmarks which you can't dusable which defeats the fucking purpose. In firefox it was easy as flipping a byte

But Jow Forums loves Firefox.

Also, because firefox is dogshit slow, and always has been, including up to this day.

I don't know about you, but I was forced to leave the Firefox train somewhere in 2010 just as Chrome was gaining traction because memory leaks were so bad. Firefox is the part of the reason why Firefox use dropped, you gotta be honest, man.
I returned somewhere in 2014 and it has been useable since, I've got no new complaints.

It can also use all of the extensions in the chrome store as well as firefox extensions not available on chromium based browsers.

People who used their mozilla browser which was pretty awesome in the beginning will remember that they abandoned it and started over because mozilla was getting too bloated. Same thing happened with firefox, although its still the best option out there and I´m mostly happy with it.

I see, i've only used the windows version and never had any of those issues playing back xvid/h264/H265. Perhaps it's a linux issue, or an issue with less common codecs?

I use mpc-hc and VLC interchangabley. Starting to use VLC more now as 3.x has proper high-dpi support that VLC 2.x and MPC lack. Kinda sad that mpc-hc has been discontinued.
