irssi is for grandpas and losers

cock

give me an actual reason to use something else besides "lol it's old xD" fuckin hipster faggot

irssi + screen/tmux in a remote shell, accessed over SSH.

This but Weechat.

suck my dong

all jokes aside, irssi and weechat are both very good terminal irc clients, but in my experience weechat has more active development and a healthier community that writes a lot of extensions. they also share many of the same default keybindings, making it easier to switch from one to the other.

I like Finch.

cock
weechat = bloat

Isn’t Weechat chinese messaging app??

As correctly pointed out, weechat is bloated crap, IRC is already full of bloat as is, why add more?

I bet you feel like a hacker when you join a completely vulnerable chat client. Use telegram fucking hacker-wannabes

What if you are a russian hacker?

>hacker-wannabes
I just want to freely chat with random people and it not to be weird like irl.

>implying you can't use encryption on top of IRC

Not everything on IRC needs to be encrypted though. Most of the chat is inane and not about how we're going to hax the gibson.

weechat != wechat my dude

telnet is fine if u use a client ur a n00b gtfo Jow Forums

this, but with your own edits to make it mildly more usable (I added highlights and the ability to invert the colors if the message is in the channel you're currently in so that's easier to see)

Fucking plebs. Just install ii and get on witj your miserable lives already.

I used to use Irssi but then I changed to Weechat because it had Matrix integration possibility. Now I don't even use that feature so I kinda miss Irssi.

Pretty good.

Lol.

I guess it's because the screenshot app keeps the window's drop shadow and the mac does that too.

wtf konversations looks like that now?

Where do you find IRC channels with people in? I used mIRC about 13-14 years ago, then stopped, and I downloaded Weechat recently and I can't find anything. I don't even know how to use it. Is there a guide somewhere? Are there any channels worth visiting?

>can't talk to a server without netcat
How much more cancerous can neo-Jow Forums get?

stop... youre giving me an erection

Or Scots

m3 t00

weechat.org/files/doc/devel/weechat_quickstart.en.html
weechat has good documentation and is easy to use

check out freenode for free software related channels, rizon for Jow Forums

Better question, what's the best IRC server to deploy on one's own hardware?

cli: weechat
gui: hexchat
ircd: inspircd
hope this helps

>Discord spies on you
[citation needed]
Try actually reading the terms of service if you're going to quote them to me.

Weechat is for the thinking man.

I really love irssi, but WeChat-curses had really pulled me away. The upgrade command, and the better plugin system really brought it home. Especially after slack killed their irc gateways. The slack plugin for wechat keeps me from having to run slack's bloated shit-show of a web interface.

ngircd for a simple server else charybdis or inspircd ircv3.net/software/servers.html

I run a Quassel server/client duo. The real problem stems from the fact I don't really NEED IRC any longer. IRC is a dying platform and nitpicking over what client doesn't really do much for the community. There needs to be rework of the architecture to incorporate shit that made Discord popular, something akin to Magnet links for joining servers is definitely required to save the platform.

>IRC is a dying platform and nitpicking over what client doesn't really do much for the community.

This guy is right.
Stop being nitpick and just use whatever is easier for you to setup.

w-why has no one suggested cryptocat yet?

I agree, but the only way i see this possibly happening is if all major IRC servers and clients implement the extensions at the same time, otherwise it will go unused / become a nuisance more than anything.

IRSSI + screen
CLI IRC client is the best

Thanks
