How do you guys motivate yourself to learn new shit?
I'm 26 and have a decent job, but want to git gud at networking. I work in a NOC for an ISP, but want to get my CCNP so I can further my career.
What methods do you use to keep yourself interested in fairly dull material?

I do intermittent fasting. Calorie deficits make your growth hormone spike (temporarily), which makes you better at basically everything for 12 hours. You're supposed to have a schedule, but I just base it off 30 minutes or so of hunger pangs. It just werks.

The best way to be motivated to learn something is to be truly passionate about it. You could force yourself to study a few times, but it's not a sustainable strategy, and sooner or later you'll start hating the subject. If you want the motivation to learn something intensively every day until you master it, you should find a way to enjoy the learning process.

My dopamine receptacles are BTFO thanks to porn and video games, so this will prove difficult.

tfw no ez source of adderall

Necessity and desperation are best motivators

The same way to motivate yourself to do anything... to obtain pussy.

Maybe you should equalize your dopamine levels by enjoying real life for a change.

Also, receptacles? You mean receptors?

Studies have found that thinking about an end goal or reward actually degrades your mental performance. A better strategy is to attain a mental state of flow.

>receptors
yeah, that is in fact what I meant. Thanks auto correct.

hm, seems like i'd need to trick myself into that, since I have a pretty clear goal in mind.

Studies have found that sucking cock makes you gay

Don't even bother. It's literally placebo if you haven't ADHD

Drugs aren't magic though. Trust me, I've used so many stimulants it's not even funny, so I know what I'm talking about. Your system adjusts to them very quickly and their effects start to taper off. Good diet and exercise work a lot better.

I recently took myself off Ritalin (voluntarily, not by doctor's orders) because I found that it was affecting my ability to hyperfocus. It may have been helping me do more things I hated, but at the same time I was losing my passion for things I truly enjoyed. Like I said, drugs aren't magic. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

>A better strategy is to attain a mental state of flow.
What the fuck is that?

Lets test that theory.

Do you use this state? Do you deliberately chase it How?

studies still haven't found the reason i don't give a fuck about studies

Ever worked a menial labor job and begin feeling like a well-oiled machine, sometimes your body moving without you consciously thinking about it? That is flow.
Any time you're doing something so rapidly and intensely you lose track of time and a sense of self and immediate future worries, you have achieved "flow". The complexity of the task is unimportant, only that you are 100% focused on it.

I can't make you not retarded OP. If you take anti-depressants then get off those first.

I press a loaded gun to my temple until it leaves an indent on my skin.

Adapt or die. Literally.

Alright, now my end goal is to attain flow. Thanks for the help, dude.

Do fun things with the material.
Create your own network and challenge yourself to do things with it.

You are already motivated learn. It's just that you are even more motivated to waste time on something else. Remove something else.

>motivate yourself to learn new shit
you shouldn't have to, you either like learning or you don't. forcing yourself to know one more thing will be painful
