Add a logs for bans, deletes; "all time" actually goes back all 8yrs, add a anonymous mode you can comment anonymously. Make comments easier to follow and more readable

Remove karma, no faster archiving, images with comments and text-posts. HTML + CSS customization, keep original design, ban people with -1000 downvotes or more

1. Make it work 100% without JS
2. Think of a way to make it decentralized
3. Remove private messages completely, so people go somewhere else if they want to talk in private
4. Obviously, it'd be 100% free software, client and server side

My biggest issue with Reddit is that it sold itself to Microsoft and advertisers. They're implementing more aggressive tracking every day (now they're using fingerprintjs2) and the owners don't really care about privacy.

I also believe private messages are bad by design for that kind of site. It encourages people to talk "privately", but without any kind of encryption/secure channel for them. This can't be fixed without going full social network style (ie. implementing a proper chat with the signal protocol, which would need JS to run in-browser) and imo it'd be a bad decision.

tl;dr reddit tracks you and it sucks. we should go back to forums

Actually /b/ is dead and is a fb gap circle jerk. /x/ is a shadow of its former self and Jow Forumsconspiracy and Jow Forumsnosleep are far better.

Jow Forums lost all its tech savvy people to other parts of the internet and you'll get more in depth analysis on specific sub reddits.

I agree with most of the posts above, reddit is alright but tge circlejerk or brown nosing is the worst part about it. Theres usually a thousand comments just agreeing or saying how life changing a reply is and those posts get bumped to the top. Redundant posts should he reduced under a parent comment so that the content reads better.

I feel like this has a decent chance of curbing the circlejerk and actually fulfilling the original idea of "good content rises to the top through a self-sustaining user-powered system".
You could even hide the actual vote scores - of course educated guesses based on the position relative to the top would still be possible, but it would be much less impulsive I feel. Or maybe display a percentage rating without disclosing the actual numbers.
Seems like this would remove a lot of incentive to make ebin posts for upboats and the like. Of course you can't get rid of it completely - even on Jow Forums people end up fishing for (You)s - but it would at least be a gigantic improvement, since the "permanent" record of all your "achievements" will be gone.

Of course there are other problems with moderation and stuff, but that's beyond the scope of this shitpost.
