Anyone else just fucking sick of certain sites like reddit etc censoring everything and just generally sucking ass?

Anyone else just fucking sick of certain sites like reddit etc censoring everything and just generally sucking ass?

Someone once told me that there are still sites and places that feel like the "old" 90s/early 2000s internet, where you can chat freely and it's the same kind of ideas/atmosphere but I'm unsure which sites. Anyone know of any?

are you looking for the answer "Jow Forums"

uh huh. Top kek mr user,

lurk more

nah, less well known ones.

Someone once told me the world is gonna roll me

>delete garbage = censor everything
also early 2000s had much more anal mods and in general it was worse.

are called vbulletin forums, but most are toxic and have poor security with a lot of spam threads about canadian pharmacies

>using websites to chat
this is what's wrong with the internet today, don't get me started on those fucking file locker websites

There was one but the SJWs in Anonymous shut it down

downvoted reddit comments are the best to read desu

I remember reading a post how a film critiques modern society and it's all so accurate etc., (that was true for like 5% of the movie), most of the upvoted comments were agreeing with it and adding some other stuff, then there was this downvoted comment (-50) suggesting that the OP might be going for a low hanging fruit,

I'm sick of the US government censoring everything. Based Ajit is making it stop.

Grandpa here.

Jow Forums is very close to old newsgroups feel.

Upboat system is what ruins every modern site.

I always give reddit as example why democracy is horrible political system, it's dictatorship of mediocrity.

Yeah also they used to filter swears and shit on most forums.

>democracy is horrible
What do you suggest?

Reddit is surprisingly similar to the US in that it has a million subreddits that act as "local governments." Most of them suck but a few are alright.

anarchy

f a s h

Me as the ruler.

why bother with the whole internet, just find a few pals and build your internet infrastructure around them, overpopulation ruins everything, too many voices, too many opinions for one individual to consume, one curious friend can be better than a forum,

This doesn't even make sense
Luke smith seems to champion this idea but he uses the internet a LOT and he god damn well knows it despite what he says

Try 155chan I hear it's all the rage

Which all are worse than democracy. You guys are so 17th century-ish

>points out issue
>if you can't provide alternative then the former is right
this rhetoric is cancer and you should fucking off yourself. pointing out the problems with something doesn't mean that you have to provide an alternative to validate the fact that problems exists.

Think you should maybe check out Jow Forums.

(You)
(You)
(You)
(You)
Yes You. You need to calm the fuck down autist.

Explain further.

>feel like the "old" 90s/early 2000s internet
You couldn't say shit back then without some autist bringing up "netiquette" then banning you.

That just means you have found your echo chamber.

A king, by the grace of God.

...

You're literally here. If you want less popular, go to a niche board. There are some good IRC channels out there too, and some good rooms on Matrix if irc is too oldshit for you.

Elaborate how a king can solve problems with democracy. History has shown kings to be inbreeding retarded monkey niggers who were eventually overthrown by their own people

Bring back Snacks

here's a pro tip for you my young user: apathy. learn to disengage yourself from becoming emotionally tied with online "communities." put that pc down and go out to network in real life.

moderation is going to be a mixed bag of shit where ever you go. Pick your poison.

>democracy is horrible

oh look at this guy uttering a thought that has been repeated before a million of times,

pointing out a problem in a creative and new way removes you from the obligation of providing an alternative,

saying something unoriginal and claiming that the system you criticize is a dictatorship of mediocrity is a level of stupid that can only be found on this site,

do not doubt the king, for his grace was bestowed upon us by our God

>who were eventually overthrown by their own people
Until the 20th century most European countries were monarchies. So apparently the inbred retarded monkeys were good enough to rule the countries for hundreds of years.

These, but completely unironically.

Moderation is the real problem, just like in real life

In both cases, the answer is *direct* democracy...

>vBulletin
Anything that uses vBulletin is shit, pretty much.

>the answer is *direct* democracy
Sagebombing?

Jow Forums, slow boards specifically

For websites? Dictatorship. Write some laws and enforce them, that's all.

whats it like

wiby.me/

Obligatory.

I remember being booted from BBSes in the late 90s for nVidia vs 3dfx trolling. Nowadays I can shitpost like that on Jow Forums all day without any repercussions.

philosopher-kings

in terms of online forums, ignoring shit you don't like

Fuck off Plato

>feel like the "old" 90s/early 2000s internet, where you can chat freely and it's the same kind of
You wont see much of a difference. Every community back then also had mods or operators and would ban you for posting stupid shit or off-topic
Back then it was also a lot more weird.

Anarcho mutualism

>Jow Forums
the mods are getting worse and worse
50/50 chance you get banned on /an/ if you don't post r*ddit shid

monarchy

Pretty sure that if any such place exists it is currently being infiltrated by SJWs to ensure no one commits wrong-think against Hillary Clinton or refugees.

IT WAS HER TURN! T____T

ok here's a question then
what can't you post or what do you want to post that you can't somewhere on Jow Forums
>dumb meme answer

pizza

spam

raids

IRC is the closest you're going to get to the old free-as-in-freedom days of the internet, and even then it wasn't so much the internet as it was dialing into BBSes to share thoughts and files with like-minded people.

you gotta find communities based around people who like to create shit
example: demoscene
the quality of text conversation is the same everywhere. you're not going to find better ideas or opinions on any specific forum.
as soon as you get a community that thinks it's special because it restricts access or it's a secret club it only becomes interesting to those who want to play poltiics.

I'll give you that not having calls to raid sucks but I still see them happen sometimes

>say norway isn't socialist
>butthurt mod bans me for 2 days

I get the impression a lot of internet people are actual schizoids so they genuinely just dont give a fuck about real life communities

>Frequently, a schizoid individual's social functioning improves, sometimes dramatically, when the individual knows he or she is an anonymous participant in a real-time conversation or correspondence, e.g. in an online chat-room or message-board. Indeed, it is often the case the individual's online correspondent will report nothing amiss in the individual's engagement and affect.

literally anything interesting
>flame someone
>banned
>use mean words
>banned
>talk about how shit the board is
>banned
>tell the mods to fuck off for deleting your posts
>banned
I posted something along the lines of
>If you don't have a garden you shouldn't have a dog you fucking spastic
and got a site wide ban, how the fuck is that fair?

Posting above the usual /pol harping.

I would say they exist in pockets. These places though in ways usually focus in on an interest or maybe rally around a youtube channel or whatever. Various Sub-reddits come to mind. The JoeRogan sub is a wonderful world of fun times shitposting. Jow Forums in particular. Discord is growing too, beyond gaming. A good discord server is loads of fun. You just have to find an interest and start digging. Adjust your level of autism accordingly.

Heavy handed moderation was everywhere in the late 90's. Only place where it didn't exist was probably in unmoderated Usenet groups, though many were obviously moderated. I agree that the feeling of taking part of discussion was vastly different back then, but it was probably a combination of factors different from what you're thinking. Online discussion was pretty new back then, so there was a certain amount of excitement and people took it more seriously by being more polite and on-topic etc. Meme talk wasn't really a thing. As far as http goes the sites were more barebones than today.

I'm sure there are discussion sites with little to no moderation in places like Tor, but we all know that idiots probably just abuse it in the typical ways.

>insults user, gets banned
>not fair

Attached: 1525093875443.jpg (211x239, 6K)

insult are Jow Forums's bread and butter you CUNT of a dickhead
the no flaming rule is there but never enforced unless you post on /an/, one of the boards with the highest amount of r*ddit roasties
makes you think

he came in my ass till i prolapsed

The discussion is the bread and butter of Jow Forums, anything else is just you pretending to be a retard.

Shitposting and flaming is just most common content because people here never do anything else but sit on internet and are always bored.

part of what makes having a discussion on Jow Forums so fun and what brings out the passion in people is that if you think someone is a cunt because you're passionate about something or because they're just a cunt you can tell them so without fear of reprisal, or at least you used to be able to

Don't worry though, I wont acquiesce to that mod's tyranny

So it's going to be the companies doing that instead lmao

Everything needs to be censored for advertisers and normalfags now

top kek

What makes Jow Forums fun is not that you can call others cunt without repercussion , but because the anonymous unrated comments force people to think about what's written and not who wrote it. Each discussion is new and not weighted in contrast to person's other opinions. People who forget this bring down this whole site and are no better than e-peen faggots on every other site.

Too many times people just present their stance with "you're cunt" in the first sentence just because they can, not because they are passionate about something.

Feel free to disagree with the mods if they don't limit themselves to reasonable moderation, but don't think people here are actually intelligent enough to follow the the basics of good discussion.

you're a cunt
if you say something dumb then i'n gonna call you a cunt and you're going to be a cunt before and after I call you a cunt, you cunt. Only a cunt would think being called a cunt is something a cunt would do because the person afflicted by said label, said accurate analysis of their fiber, said aforementioned analysis of their utter cuntery is such a cunt they can't handle being a called a cunt because they know deep down that they are a cunt

You're a cunt for being such a sad cunt and you know you're a cunt.

Cunt

(you)s are this site's form of downvotes, frequently used by reddifugees fresh off the boat who feel the need to express irrational disagreement about an issue they have no retort for. You're just proving his point.

wiby.me/surprise

See Pure shitposting is the most reddit thing you can do. Despite what your newfag dumbass may assume most of the site hates /b/ even back when it was still good. And they still do a much better job at doing so compared to what you steamkids could muster

Neocities.

I always find it funny when I'm so used to Jow Forums that if I try to have a discussion on another site I get banned because I've called the person I'm talking to a series of insulting names whilst discussing.

It's just our way here on Jow Forums and I love you all for it.

Also rizon is a pretty good server, cripplechan has a big group there.

>le you is le downboat
Son, you is a form of validation we all seek for. You might be confusing you with sage. Reditors typically say "shit thread, saged" to imply they disagree and thus downboated. Sage != downboat

Nah, nobody new uses sage anymore, barely anyone here even knows how to use it anymore I'd assume. Besides giving (you)s allows them to announce their disagreement to everyone in the thread and 'win' the argument, whereas announcing sages only entices others to sagebump you in rebellion.

Marxism.

>Someone once told me that there are still sites and places that feel like the "old" 90s/early 2000s internet, where you can chat freely and it's the same kind of ideas/atmosphere
What the fuck kind of alternate reality 90s/early 2000s internet are you talking about? There was a fuck ton more moderation back then than what you'd find on most boards on Reddit today, and the shit you see on most of the boards the Reddit has been removing lately wouldn't have flown if you started posting about it in the off topic section of a forum from back then. The only difference back then in terms of "less censorship" was that people would actually making their own website (or hosting other services) about that topic rather than just creating a board on a site like Reddit, then getting kicked off later because they don't want your shit there.

No lie, I went to Firefox's reddit to see how they were taking the sponsored ads shit that other day. And I shit you not a 250+ thread was closed because 'racism'. I don't know how anyone would ever post on that site wliilgly
