Would not even consider. Also it looks offputting.

you can get them used for half price

M8, I'm looking at an amp that is 2,000 dollars at most, which I will gladly pay less for if there's something equal. 4-5,000 dollars is still far beyond what I'm willing to spend on an amp.

This comes in both black and silver, and costs roughly around the same.
usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/hifi_components/a-s1100_g/specs.html#product-tabs

My father actually just bought the A-S701. Shit seems to work well, I can't say much about it though. He spent 700 dollars (minus some gift cards) for an amp that doesn't get much use.

What I remembered was wood trim more than silver.

That Parasound looks slick.
I think the idea of black is to go for a more understated look.
Not a fan of glossy finishes, like the sort you might find on more really upscale products.
>THX headphone amp
From Massdrop? For what headphone?
Incidentally, I think the THX speaker amp was a more interesting idea.

>For what headphone
Currently I've been switching off between Fidelio X2s and HD6xx. The THX is no doubt overkill, but I like the design so I'm taking the chance. I'm also not a fan of the glossy finishes, far too distracting. Brushed metal is what I like best.
>THX speaker amp
Got any links, pictures?

>THX
AFAIK, it's only the Benchmark amp for now.
The kind of amp you could use to drive ordinary speakers or headphones.
Crazy.

SHINY

It's not hard to get THX certification

I love finding vintage audio that works for next to nothing at piles-of-shit-and-garbage stores. They resell nicely and the aesthetic of the old systems is great.

I only listen to music in my car, and it has a very good bose system.

no, skippy, no!

No, it's literally made by THX.

What are the chances of finding a 5.1 or 7.1 setup for my Linux htpc at a thriftstore?

Better hope your thrift store is in an affluent area.

If you want to test your system, find Daft Punk FLAC

Can someone please suggest a good setup for connecting an RE20 to my computer? I don't care if it's expensive as long as it's not decadent for no reason. It's a $450 dynamic mic so I kind of expect that it might be slightly expensive to get a proper interface and and cabling for it. Also I have a small room with not a lot of echo but I'm wondering how much I'd have to sound treat the room in order to get good recordings. That's a step I'm willing to handle later on though. I just want a really good microphone.

>Cardiod mic
Scarlet 2i2 and XLR cable should work.

Oh I thought it was a dynamic mic and it needed like some sort of pre-amp along side an interface or it would be quiet. I guess this is why I remember it being dynamic and I think I've heard it called a dynamic by a couple of reviewers I think. However it's clearly a cardiod mic and you are correct. I just know it's not a condenser.

Attached: hmmmm.png (1266x710, 407K)

So what Cardioid refers to is the way the mic records sound. It records sound in a single direction. Cardioid mic is typically used in stage performances.

It all works good and sounds good together. Surprising output, definitely enough for a bedroom or small living room. All for $50 if you count speaker wire and rca's.

This is probably a stupid question but, if I have a lossy audio file and I need to perform some edits to it and re-encode it back to another lossy format how do I do this while minimizing compression artifacts?

Wikipedia says compression artifacts are cumulative so every time you transcode it gets worse and worse with each generation.

I'm wondering if converting from my lossy source to a lossless format, performing my edits, and re-encoding back to lossy again will bypass the compression artifacting? I KNOW CONVERTING LOSSY TO LOSSLESS WILL NOT ADD IN INFORMATION THAT WAS ALREADY DELETED. I UNDERSTAND THIS 100%. I'm am specifically asking if converting to lossless will prevent the cumulation of compression artifacts through transcoding.

Before you ask, there is no lossless source of the audio I'm working on. Take my word for it.

goddam those are nice

>lossy to lossy
Fucked m8.
>lossless to lossy
Typical CD or mp3.
>lossy to lossless
The data won't really look different, but if we're being pedantic it technically is slightly.
>lossy to lossless, back to lossy
Loses data.

What speakers and receiver should I get to have audio half way listenable?

I dont think Im an audiophile, but Im tired of having shit sound. my sony tv sucks. My craigslist remoteless sony home theater sucks, the speakers that came with it suck. Im sure the eq is fucked up in it. I have a decent bsr eq that I use to cancel the shit out. It has to be adjusted per song. I also have a sony 10" active rattle box that seems to do its job.
I think I need a real receiver and some decent speakers, what should I get that isnt expensive as fuck?

are you in the U.S.?

There's one for sale here in Sweden right now on tradera.se for $62

Pretty basic setup here, I might switch out the audio interface at some point, and I will definitely replace the microphone even though it's great quality, but it's just too big.

It's kinda reflective, but I don't blast my speakers since I like it at slightly above talking levels.
(rear wall is just one big ghetto-made acoustic treated wall).
It's kinda dark (since I wanted to show the ambilight), but picture shows the denon 2313, the VSX-405RDS on the left side of the TV, the 12' sub on the other side, Z7 as fronts, Z5 as front-side, behind are the Z1.

I dont understand leds in any tech. Is none of those gadgets ever meant to be used in a dark room watching movies or something?
Who wants bright leds blasting their eyes ever? Its like everything goes with the design mentality of "just tape over it lol".

I am not an audiophile and neither a good hobbyist.
Here is my background.
>Italian in 2008
>Scaruffi&co were all memes before imageboards kicked in
>heavily into cinema and literature
>Have no idea about music gear, bought the first DT770 with my budget, since it was shilled as a standard for quality.
>I decide to step up, who needs guides when you have a good ear.
>buy random shit based on lazy listening and crossing internet charts, basic wave length knowledge
>years later (now) I decide to inform myself
Well, I still know shit.
This is my gear:
Pioneer with Integrated Amplifier A-10.(No idea what that means, just went to a store tried amps with a dt770 and bought a "good one?" online)
amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-10-K-50W-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B0082JFKPQ

Jow Forums shilling Cerwin-Vega VE-5M Bookshelf.
(at the time I didn't have to stay 4 meters away to use the speakers, now I have a cinema so they are still on bookshelves but 4 meters away)

Two months ago I decided to step up to sennheiser 650, again I tried them and trusted internet shilling.

This is not to show off gear, I don't even own a car because my hometown requires only bicycles to move around, fucking Italy.

All this to say: /mu/ I can definitely say that for my basic set up, foobar2000 is complete shit, Windows Media Classic works way better.

Charts on the internet are not good at shilling music software, I am assuming because wave length vary immensely in terms of algorithm and many things need a technician to work on.

If you want audio quality players all suck balls right? it all comes down to the quantity of programming. I noticed MPC and some DAWs are good.

I have no idea. Where is some decent up to date guide?
Where can I find a more practical guide for the know how to do?

The 4chanmusic wikia is so basic, it sucks balls and I haven't even tried to be an audiophile.

Why do external dacs exist when motherboards like pic related is the standard nowadays?
Who buys them?

not all motherboards are equipped with high quality amplifiers.

I noticed you memed a lot by sharing gear.
But that doesn't mean anything to me.

I can reply by memeing with Celexon surfaces, but I don't think you'd be able appreciate its quality with pictures.

Why MPC works better than everything I tried so far as a software, is there a better alternative?

I don't need a guide about hardware, I already have the hardware, I need a gear about software.

You're contradicting yourself while being conflicted by yourself.
>This is not to show off gear, I don't even own a car because my hometown requires only bicycles to move around, fucking Italy.
Why do you think cars and bikes related to this thread?
>foobar2000 is complete shit, Windows Media Classic works way better.
Foobar2000 is better than Windows Media "Classic" Player, and it's better than Media Player Classic which has nothing to do with Windows Media Player besides the GUI from WMP2.

IT all boggles down to:
>I don't know X thing, X thing is bad even though I don't know anything about it.

The ALC have come a long way, but it's not a good enough amplifier for high Ω headphones.

People don't buy external DAC just because of audio quality, they buy it to actually be able to play their headphones.

Again, what?
Are you high or something?
You act self-condescending in the most impractical and odd ways I've seen in a long time.
You act like you have the best thing, yet you don't even know what it is or how to use it and demands others to give you advice on how to use your hardware.

You better realize you're begging for help, you're in no position to act like some big mofo mafia just because you live in Italy, in fact it makes you a tosser and a worse "memer" than everyone else here.

>Why MPC works better than everything I tried so far as a software, is there a better alternative?
There are.

>I don't need a guide about hardware
Surely you do from the looks of it.
>I already have the hardware
You bought things you don't know how to use
>I need a gear about software.
You NEED a gear? About software?
You already said it yourself that you already found MPC better than the alternatives. Because for some reason you made one, if not THE best alternative to work worse than MPC which is a grand fucking achievement.

Form your questions, stop bringing up useless information and post what the fuck you're using.
->

>The ALC have come a long way, but it's not a good enough amplifier for high Ω headphones.
Are you sure, it says 600 ohm. Surely it runs a 300ohm one well.

lol

Those two things is all you needed to bring up if you wanted to have answers.

>I noticed you memed a lot by sharing gear.
Is this your line of thought?
>I don't wanna post what I have but I'm entitled enough that people should know what I have and help me even though I'm ungrateful, unhelpful and self-condescending.

I just glanced over the image as I typed to the Italian nutcase and thought it was just a standard ALC1150, not a modified version of it, because that 600Ω amp is not part of the ALC1150 standards, which is 75Ω.

Found this JVC-AX40 at Goodwill a few years ago for $10. Looks like shit and the top has a dent in it, but it's a solid receiver amp. I've got a pair of Pioneer SP-BS21-LR hooked up as well.

Forgot picture, fuck.

I want the five channel version of that

Can someone recommend a setup that is similar to the pic, eg a cardioid mic meant for voice, but priced around $400 or less total? I want a good microphone for playing games and talking to people on ventrilo, maybe even doing let's plays as well. However I have a few concerns with the RE20 and that setup beyond just the price.
>I don't want to have to get right up on the mic in order for my voice to be clear
>I also don't want too much background noise
>I'm not in a sound treated booth

Check out Rode mics, they are pretty good for this type of stuff, I assume you already know about them though since you have the boom arm from them in that list.
You can filter out a lot of background noise with dynamic microphones, but it's always tricky.

heil pr40 makes a great re20 alternative, but needs a lot of gain, so maybe consider a cloudlifter or any other booster along with it

> just went to a store tried amps with a dt770 and bought a "good one?" online

You realize the integrated headphone amp and the main speaker amp are two fully independent pieces of circuitry right?

Jesus, what has this board become.

need some better headphones but other than that, pretty happy where i am

Currently using a Modmic with my shitty motherboard preamp. If I buy a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 can I just put a 6.35mm adapter on my Modmic and plug it into the mic input? Planning on upgrading to a proper mic at some point down the road.

you need to adapt it to xlr, since that's what the mic pre on the interface is, the 6.35 is instrument/line level

Think I'll buy lsr 305p mk2 when they come out in about a month.
Theres still no comparable thing to buy at the price range right?

not really, these things are dirt cheap for the performance

Interference mostly
Hell, my speakers pick up my GPU from over a metre away, through a desk

Do you use some elaborate optical to dac to balanced outputs then?
