>Latch won't spring back on either of my *10 series
Wat do?

Take it apart and mess around with the mechanism on the palm rest. I had to take that mechanism and reassemble it properly to have it work again after I repasted my T420. Just keep in mind that your spring probably hasn't stretched out too much, it has all to do with these metal wires and how they're put together.
It's quite annoying, but you can test whether it works without putting the palm rest back on.

my battery life is decreasing too fast, what do you do to keep healty your battery? I don't want to (and can't) spend 100€ for a new battery

Where do I get new trackpoint clits? Specifically the older domes. I like them better than the cat tongue ones.

Keep battery at 60% when you're not using it, charge to 100% only when you need it, never let your battery drain to 0 and leave it uncharged for long periods of time. Battery conservation 101.

Avoid deep cycles, set thresholds to prevent it from charging fully, and recalibrate it once in a while. TLP is pretty useful for this kind of stuff, and you can also use it to enable some power-saving features in the kernel.

amazon and ebay, your choice if you want wait a few weeks you can get a bunch of them at once on aliexpress or banggood

Day 57 of looking for an x220...

Still haven't found a good deal.

Attached: 1521766727551.jpg (1030x1020, 136K)

This, but keep in mind that fakes aren't as good as the real deal. Chink ones are usable, but they tend to be flatter and/or made of harder rubber, which doesn't feel as good.
You should be able to easily tell fakes and genuine ones apart by just looking at the price.

so basically I should keep the battery between 40-60% while I use it without the power supply and when I don't need the battery I should keep the battery at 50-60% and never fully uncharged. Can it increase capacity if the actual capacity is around 40-50% or a calibration may be more effective?

Yeah, do shallow cycles most of the time to reduce wear on the cells, but make sure to recalibrate it (which is essentially a cycle as deep as it can be) once in a while (like, say 2 months or whenever you feel like your battery is a bit funny) to make sure the controller knows what cells are capable of. I managed to get a >10% increase in capacity after recalibrating once.

>tfw you run your finger around the soft rim trackpoint

What's wrong with the E and L series?

Just an idea: Overpay a small amount in order to save a lot of time? 50 bucks more could've probably saved you 57 days of looking for a deal.

No, I refuse to overpay because some faggot on youtube shilled x220s endlessly

This desu, even if you 'overpay' they're still cheap. I get it if you're generally low on money but I doubt that many are here. This thing will last you years so it's not a waste. Hell, I bought mine locally here in shitty EU and paid like $350, could have gotten it cheaper for damn sure but I wanted to pick it up that day.

Attached: notevengay.png (1400x1050, 2.98M)

>x220
>last years
They're easily the worst built thinkpad
Also 350 is x250 money

>Also 350 is x250 money
Did you even read my post? You mong

How do I make sure the thinkpad I buy doesn't have a "smell"?

Attached: 1520111735774.gif (450x338, 246K)

Get a refurbished one.

Do any of you anons have the x62? How do you like it?

im thinking of getting a thinkkpad, im a community college student majoring computer science. not sure which to get. any advice?

Get a T60 and carry it to class, you will drown in pussy.

kek
it's a combination of human byproduct and the ancient plastics gassing out
case case scenario is that it smells like a dentists office, worst case is that it smells like indian BO.
X250, they're at a great price right now and you'll have plenty of power and ram to run VMs, matlab/octave, julia etc. Plus ACTUAL good battery life, not the meme shit that the morons on here post.

Also, libreniggers, I'm still waiting on you to explain how trannyboot protects you from this

Attached: Screenshot_20180505_185851.png (1151x415, 46K)

why do you have so many?
fucking buypigs

>Also, libreniggers, I'm still waiting on you to explain how trannyboot protects you from this
Just don't run untrusted (aka propietary) software, is this too hard for you?
Also the bug affects all x86 systems, why do you pick on libreboot specifically?

because the retards that use it think that they're getting a 100% completely secure machine (which is how the FSF shills them by the way) and that makes it a worthy trade-off for cancer tier screens, power, battery life etc.
Also this isn't just a case "le just use common sense 2018!", spectre exploits can run through your browser, same with meltdown.

Because I'm not poor and wanted to try a few out. Get a job, faggot

I bet you don't have a single penny saved for retirement.
Here's a great deal for you, better get on quick before another buypig snatches it up!

Attached: Screenshot_20180502_023029.png (1080x690, 279K)

I need this on my thinkpad

Attached: 1512345787101.png (472x586, 175K)

What's the stock RAM in x230? If I bought a 4gb one would it be 2x2gb or 1x4gb?

Whats your power draw on your Thinkpad /tpg/?

#!/bin/sh
awk '{print $1*10^-6 " A"}' /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/current_now
awk '{print $1*10^-6 " V"}' /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/voltage_now

Don't know if its accurate but 6-12w idle on a x220 isn't bad

idk
mine has 2x2GB

FRU-Lenovo 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz SoDIMM Memory

Apparently that's stock. What happens if I put in 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 in the other slot?

Will it just downclock to the slowest one or what?

12.565W on 8470p with like 30 tabs open, and a bunch of documents in libreoffice

Below 1w in idle.

Attached: idle.png (681x581, 115K)

Hey guyze, quick question :

How does a W701 for 120€ sound?

The guy I bought a W520 (pic related) and a W530 from for 120€ each just called me to tell me he has a W701 for the same price. Basicaly he just sells everything with a i7 sticker on it for 120€, i5 for 100€ and i3 for 80€, with original bag, docking and a 1 year waranty. He's also giving me a bunch of DP-HDMI adapters, as well as a new palmrest for the W520, free of charge.

I don't know about the rest of the specs for the W701, but I was wondering about known problems, ease of service and overall usability.

Thanks!

Attached: IMG_6259-1.jpg (1500x1000, 687K)

damn that's insane
intel actually stepped it up with the 8th gen chips

I think he meant the entire laptop, not only the CPU.

I'm not really sure how to check that under windows, I bet display is the majority of the power draw.

here's my powertop too

Attached: Screenshot_20180506_144150.png (602x432, 12K)

Got myself a almost new T470s for 650€.
Pretty comfy device and great screen, if these things would only come with 7-row keyboards.

Should I get this then?

Haha, you're a funny one!

>NOTE: NO OS, NO HARD DRIVE, NO AC CHARGER, 1 WHITE DOT IN LCD SEE PIC #5, SCUFFS ALOT ALL AROUND THE CASE AND THE TOP LCD COVER, SEE PIC WHAT YOU SEE WHAT YOU GET FOR MORE DETAIL.
Are you retarded?

didn't know about powertop, neeto

been playing with the dynamic tick options and a bunch of stuff in kernel
so with 6 tabs open in firefox and a couple of terminals + X and i3 its "idling" at 7W
not bad for a 2540m

Attached: powertop.png (1366x768, 158K)

>i3 niggers have to open a separate fucking terminal to run scrot
damn it feels good to be running the white man's DE on my memebook

>laptop has a velcro latch pad
>can theoretically put a patch on it, since the latch itself is pointless
Y/N

Are you sure you want something that massive

Found a way to look it up from power manager, looks like around 5-6w idle on battery with 14 inch display at 75% brightness.

Attached: idle1.png (1231x654, 212K)

>mfw I bought a laptop from that seller

Attached: 6pX0VOJ.png (501x585, 9K)

congrats on having the best machine in this thread user

Why are elitebooks cheaper than already cheap thinkpads of the same specs?

6-8w idle with random ~10w spikes, i7-4800MQ T440p with FHD IPS screen at 50% brightness.

Attached: s.jpg (319x217, 16K)

They haven't been memed to hell and back.

because they're trash

Honestly I won't need it at all, I just don't want to pass on a good deal. Plus I like some of the weird features some of them have.

I might use it for a while, and sell it afterwards, unless I really like it for some reason. I still have to see how it's specced though, that's for tomorrow after work.

nopartz & no gentoo

Budget: £500
Requirements: run Linux distro, code, word processing software running with 1,000 to 10,000 words on it.

can u boys help me? focus on security and maybe even use in school

>NO OS, NO HARD DRIVE, NO AC CHARGER
I already have all that stuff, I don't need it.
>1 WHITE DOT IN LCD SEE PIC #5
That's fine, I have a mole on my dick too, we're not all perfect.
>SCUFFS ALOT ALL AROUND THE CASE AND THE TOP LCD COVER, SEE PIC WHAT YOU SEE WHAT YOU GET FOR MORE DETAIL
The laptop looks fine in the pics.

I just want an x220, I've been waiting for almost 2 months now...

Attached: Anime-Girl-Crying-90671.gif (403x290, 653K)

the fucking mental gymnastics thinkfaggots will perform to justify their purchases is amazing to me
you really are like macfags

if you have the parts then whatever, that pixel is a dealbreaker though

Nah, I'm just playing.
But seriously, can't find a good fucking x220.

yes it will work on the lower frequency

can I put a thinkpad nipple on my elitebook or is the slot a different size?
I want to use a cat's tongue on my elitebook

Thats at an amazing price if you want to flip it or keep it.
The video cards cant be upgraded, unlike rival M6500 or 8740w.

Worst keyboard layout compared to Dell & Lenovo, also 2 button pointing stick systems.

Dell has recovered from its image of being shit, HP? not so much.

Attached: IMG_0041.jpg (4032x3024, 2.05M)

I tried this and it didn't seem to fit right.

Sorry, I had a terminal open already
I-I will try harder senpai

why not? is it too loose?
you realize dmenu can run commands right? If you're going to run a meme you might as well learn how to use it

Attached: Screenshot_20180502_030107.png (744x458, 228K)

Try it and post results!

Attached: IMG_0265.jpg (4032x3024, 1.79M)

Well?

Cute thinkpad senpai.

whats a good play to buy nubs in bulk for cheap? particularly the cat's tongue/ classic dome kind.

>something something adding ram something upgrade and something
>at least 250€ net w/o taxes for literally 30 minutes of work
>literally 30 minutes of work
>30 minutes of work

>minutes
Obviously, you're not a golfer.

They're more akin to consumer laptops.
X, T, and W series are the only true business laptops.

>need a new laptop for college
>thinkpad perfectly fits all of my criteria EXCEPT that it doesn't have a good GPU
>every laptop with a gpu I like has some big problem with it (no numpad, mushy keyboard, rgb lights, no Ethernet port)

Fuck what should I do?

Attached: 1433039194335.gif (381x512, 536K)

Why do you need a GPU?

eGPU faggot, that's the only reasonable choice.

Attached: 1514787061326.jpg (448x520, 129K)

integrated intel grafix arent bad desu, just get a good CPU and RAM

Why would I want a business laptop?

?
you don't need a GPU for college, period.

What's your budget? The P-series and newer T-series have good GPU's.

system76

So you can pretend you are employable

Game dev
I thought eGPUs where a meme, since the USB-C connection is so slow.
I don't "need" it but if I'm getting a new laptop anyway i might as well get one that I can do fun stuff (games & game dev) on as well
I'm waiting to see the p52 but that's what I'm looking at. Budget is loosely $1500-$2000

Just got an x220, 8gb ram, 128gb ssd, ips panel, pristine condition for
$70
How'd I do?

Attached: 1514767494527.png (564x564, 419K)

Fucking how, I've been waiting 57 days!!!

which T420 1600x900 panel is considered the least worse?
im not sure what i currently have but it looks pretty bad. looking to replace this with another 1600x900 panel without spending too much

Attached: one-sugar-right-wojak-yes-pepe-ga-thank-you-for-21746477.png (500x404, 70K)

I have the LG LP140WD2 (TL)(D4).
TN panels so they're gonna be shit regardless.

im reading thinkwiki and it says, from best to worst
>Samsung
>LG
>AUO
there is also the X1 Carbon's panel right?
how much are those?

mine is trash compared to my dell that is also 1600x900. Like it might as well be fucking monochrome

eGPU, either over expresscard or USB c.

How hard is to install a 1080p screen into a T420/30?

Remember that guy who got a thinkpad for his gf, and she ended up crying because she wanted a macbook?

That was a good thread.

is this ram suitable for a t430? any recommendations if not

This is ddr3l so it's lower voltage than normal, I believe it should work just fine with ivy bridge.
