Not anymore. I got my licence removed even though I didn't upgrade yet. You can try this by using one of the keys you can find anywhere, it will accept it at first but remove it a couple minutes later with a popup.

VS Code ate into Sublime Text's marketshare because addons are easier to make and the Microsoft tooling chain is very stable/nice to use.
Microshit makes some comfy toolchains that just fucking work, because that's what you can expect out of enterprise tooling.

This is absolutely possible. If you can figure out how to do it by yourself, you deserve to have it for free (but you're probably also skilled enough to have the means to buy it).
If what you really want is a pre-prepared hack that you can just run, too bad. Since the free version is almost fully functional and the app isn't a household name, there isn't really any publicity incentive to crack it.
Figure it out yourself out just pay.
