Yeah I get your point, but some still have difficulties. I for one couldn't make sense of clock especially minutes like, how the fuck is minutes hand on 5 = 25, till grade 5. I would count from 1 to find minutes and that was slow. Someone then told me its just multiple of 5.

It’s usually in my right hand, so easier to just keep a light grip and let it tilt ccw.

Other than style there isn't a mental difference for multiplication. You carry the "1" in "traditional" style because you need to add the ten. Doing 8x40 then 8x2 and adding is literally the same thing without the ability to forget to carry the 1.

Subtraction is fucking stupid, it counts to the nearest n_0 number to make it easier to do mentally.
