Do thermal paste

Good evening Jow Forums here is a riddle for you:

>prove me that changing the thermal paste of your CPU and GPU is not the second best cost-effective upgrade you can do to your computer
(after switching from HDD to SSD of course)

Pro-tip: youn't don't can not hehehe

Doesn't help at all with storing porn.

Also generally doesn't help if you are like virtually everyone and don't overclock and/or don't run your machine at full speed.

I always run my PC at 75% speed.

I used to run my PC at full speed but I changed from mph to km/h and now it's going way too fast.

You're the exception [outside of server usage - cloud, buttcoin, big data].

And then you'd still have to be with the even much smaller fraction of people that overclocks and deals with it rather than just throwing a newer Ryzen or Threadripper or a GPGPU or whatever at the problem... or switches software.

But it's not like I blame you if you OC and need better thermal paste, go right ahead. It just only matters to very few to have "better" heat paste, rather than just "functional, not dried out" heat paste.

If your computer is noisy under load, then yes.
If you're not throttling and your HSF keeps temps under control at a good noise level then it won't make a difference at all.

4Gb to 8Gb if you don't have > 8Gb already.

$20 aftermarket heatsink will change performance more than four times what the $5 paste does

Thermal paste is a rip off. Just use some old axle grease or coconut oil

Your math proves that $20 for 4 times the performance is equal to one application of a $5 compound.

Go back to class.

The ZP-360 chinkshit comes in reasonable amounts and performs better

It helps a little bit but not enough to make much difference. Depending on your setup, doing some cable management inside your case or adding another case fan might make more of a difference in your temperatures.

thermal paste

only lasts a year but mining makes it last only 6 months before it gets hard as stone and useless.

the most important thing is not putting too much or too little.and making sure contact with cpu or gpu fan cooler is good (not too tight not too lose)

and removing dust every 3 months or so.
the important part is preventing dust and keeping on top of thermal paste and always haveing a spare tube just in case.

that said
adding thermal past to a lenovo x201 is hard lol

If you buttcoin mine and have a problem with it drying out, why aren't you just applying liquid metal?

Has the highest thermal conductivity anyhow.

the one that belong in class is you
take remedial reading and learn what "more" means

the fewer idiots there are, the better
do your part

The second best functionality upgrade is a second monitor.

I used super glue once to mount a gpu to a heat sink I pulled from an older cpu. It was overheating. After the change, cooler than ever.

I've never had replace thermal paste and I've been building since pentium 3

i just ordered some noctua whatever compound, anyone care to shittalk my choice?

>using 1kg of thermal paste in less than two years
absolutely alpha

I'm honestly thinking about getting pic related as I'll never have to deal with paste again. It's only like 1-2c worst than paste and you can't fuck it up

I do the same thing for the heat sinks on small motor controllers. Ain’t nobody got time to screw a heat sink to a fet

Same here, i'll lose 1-3c as i'm using better paste then they test against, just the whole (the paste doesn't turn to glue) makes it worth it to me.

This thread makes my brain hurt

It's actually pretty good. Performs the same as IC Diamond 7.

If that is the case then and If I ever decide to get a NH-D15 I can skip the noctua paste and just use the pad which would save my autism when it comes time to put paste on and I would not be far off from just using the paste

How can you fuck up applying thermal paste when almost everything today is non conductive unless you apply too little on the IHS?

It is hard to fuck up thermal paste where it hurts performance but it's not hard to get it fucking everywhere if you do put too much and the pad just saves the hassle of cleaning the shit and putting new stuff on

And because the d15 is so easy to put on and take off, removing it every so often to do a VERY thorough cleaning wouldn't be out of the question either. Only thing stopping me from doing that every few months is just how much of a pain in the ass it is to remove thermal paste and clean it.
