You clearly didn't actually do your research when buying parts, and you're definitely in over your head on the assembly. You should have just bought a pre-built machine with the specs for your intended use if you're not capable of putting together a computer without fucking up. You literally don't even know what cpu pins are (and yes, they ARE called pins, regardless of your opinion of what should constitute a pin) or how to properly apply a VERY SMALL amount of thermal compound. You shouldn't have put any more than a grain of rice on the cpu and allowed the heatsink to properly spread it on the cpu and form a good thermal transfer connection.

I have not done this for decades. I usually use a special spreader, and spread it evenly ( like painting ) on both the CPU and the heatsink, and then mate them 180^ and then pull it off, and rotate it another 180^ and then shift it around so its as even as possible.
The real trick is my choice of potting compound spreader. Its a very common item, just used in a different way.

You need to test the thermal compound on another surface, like a piece of cardboard or tissue. Practice droping a rice shaped drop in the middle of the cpu. If you get it all over the place, find some antipstatic non fibrous wipes and wipe that shit.
