Nobody cares about cccp anymore because you don't need a dozen splitters, audio and video codecs to play everything.Technically even back then you could just use ffdshow for everything but a lot of people were not very familiar with it. Basic stuff is integrated in players and one codec can play pretty much everything today.

I haven't switched from installing cccp and mpc-hc on every system I've owned. I kind of just assumed that setup was still master race. On Linux I used MPV since mpc-hc wasn't a thing. I just want to watch my Chinese cartoons the best way possible. I don't care if it's harder to set up or whatever. Sacrificing quality or functionality for ease of use isn't acceptable to me. I'd rather read a 200 page manual for a good media player than use a mediocre player the JUS WERKS. What setup should I be using to watch anime in the current year if those are my priorities?

mpc-hc by itself has all of the codecs you need for all but the most arcane chinese cartoon encodes.

CCCP works just fine, sure there is a problem with CUVID decoding with 397.xx drivers but I updated the Lav filters and it's fine again.

It's saved so much grief on older cpus that bogs down with 1080P H264 videos but had a has GPU to offload to.

Yes. K-Lite Standard is just MPC-HC with madVR and vsfilter.

You don't HAVE to. But you should probably set all your scalers to Spline at the least.

my first real laptop was an asus with windows VISTA and i tell you what. That version windows media player with CCCP was super comfy IMHO
