Hi Jow Forums, i plan to go with Windows 10 LTSB route. I'm too dependent on Windows programs (games, music production) and too noob to use Linux.
My question is: what are the pros and cons?
I did some researching and not having Edge, Cortana, Xbox and Microsoft store all seem like pros, even oldschool image viewer and calculator are great. I'm more worried about certain programs not working, related to workstation music producing use and gaming. Is there something missing in LTSB limiting it in doing those things? Some kind of service maybe, or driver support?
Also, how to acquire it? Are there pirated versions/torrents/etc, i'm a poorfag.
nice, i'll use that on my win10 laptop immediately. And i know this is a stupid question, but how the hell do i install github apps? I swear i'm not stupid, i've just started lurking, please help
Alexander Gonzalez
These are basically scripts and most of them have exetuable or a guide.. The green button has an arrow use that to download zip or read descriptions for release and you kinda sound inept like this board so here's an easier option oo-software.com/en/shutup10
Asher Young
Find the releases rap and download and unzip the archive. Also read the README.
Ryan Walker
I have LTSB 2016 on several devices with legit licenses aquired off ebay (reselling software is a right in the EU). the only bearable version of windows 10.
Luke Davis
Ltsb is fine. Some programs that require specific versions of windows may not work but I still haven't come upon one(mainly cause I still use older versions of programs I regularly use)
The one issue I had initially was that I was required to use Skype for work. By default it now requires you to install from the store. Found an older installer and it's working fine now.
doing that right now, other user suggested it as well...
Jason Cook
Yeah true
Michael Bailey
LTSB doesn't support Linux subsystem which I'd like as a developer. Also, using a loader/KMS to pirate the license is Russian botnet.
I was able to get a free Win10 license tied to my machine when I upgraded from pirated Win7 back when M$ gave them out so I just use that.
Camden Miller
You can use the Linux subsystem on LTSB 2016. KMS activation is not "botnet", it's official way of activating any VL Windows, including Server.
Liam Sanders
i heard it's not open-source either, so i guess there may be something bad in it
Alexander Adams
for some reason i couldn't activated my ltsb 2016 before. i don't have a clue what is the problem. is this works, can someone comfirm?
Connor Howard
Are you 13? The source code for KMS is on Github check it out it yourself
Why is /g so ignorant?
Chase Flores
Do you need a special key for LTSB installs or can you use a standard win 10 key? (or even a 7 key).
Jaxson Martin
>Why is /g so ignorant? Because it's full of 14 years old tablet kids who believe in anti-piracy propaganda spewed by their favourite YouTube minecraft stars
David Gonzalez
Also there's a couple scripts out there to add Xbox app and the Windows store to LTSB that I've used. Couldn't get Linux sub system to work try but haven't tried in a while after the last couple updates so maybe that's working too. I've been running the same install since 2016 and never understood why people hated w10. Just use it for gaymen but it's justwerked® for that just fine for me so fuck it
Mason Phillips
First, make sure you have the VL iso I posted here: and not the EVAL build.
Then, you can try this: >disconnect from the internet >restart >delete "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Toolkit\" >run MTK (latest version) as admin
Kayden Anderson
For anyone curious its there on my digital life forum
Colton Morgan
fuck xbox and windows store
Dominic Roberts
Dumb cuck. You don't need enterprise grade software on your fapmachine.
Get Windows 7, activate with Daz, then upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for free.
Parker Green
you don't get me, i want windows for games and music production, but with minimal bloatware and privacy issues. Going enterprise seems like a best option in that case, OR using github stuff on regular windows 10 like some anons mentioned
Juan Rodriguez
>Just use it for gaymen Why any version of Windows 10 though? There is no difference in gaming performance between Windows 7 and 10. youtu.be/JwHcOGDHKGM youtu.be/kQrpf5s42gY
Thomas Sanchez
maybe longer support for 10?
Hunter Ward
I do understand you're a lazy fag.
Biting the forbidden fruit will bite you back. Learn to harness your OS, just like you would harness your household. Learn best practices (like disconnecting ethernet until you install updates), and find the right registry fixes.
Brayden Ward
Windows LGBT version is suscription based. >inb4 kms stealing niggers
Nolan Howard
>disconnecting ethernet >youtube.com/watch?v=3spnGnavWFg Also, i don't want to "harness" 10.000 metro apps that i won't ever use, and "harness" telemetry caused processor spikes. You're right about registry fixes (and github scripts), i just thought LTSB is the easy way out of that bullshit
Isaac Brooks
>i just thought LTSB is the easy way out of that bullshit Until Microsoft shuts up KMS hacks forever and you're left with limited functionality. Better do it right the first time.
William Butler
I switched to LTSB couple months after Jow Forums memed it so hard. Its nice, nothing too special. At least it avoids all that current bs MS keeps adding to 10. The whole "game" mode was bothering me and it was nice to rid it with LTSB. Heres what I used to get LTSB.
i'm using regular win10 home which is KMS-ed so i'd be fucked either way
yeah, i saw that guide before making a thread. And the "nothing special" is exactly what i'm looking for
Ethan Barnes
This and I have AMD so pretty sure W10 is required for Vulkan
Anthony Martin
I agree with this sentiment. However I was testing it for Netflix and to see if I could buy Forza Horizon 3. Which unfortunately neither of them work so fuck all that I guess.
Lincoln Harris
Worked for me. You did something wrong
Adrian Gomez
just get enterprise or education and disable update if you don't want to update windows
Chase Reyes
I suggest finding the toolkit to activate LTSB. I don't know what everyone else suggesting but the toolkit is a ton easier. Took me awhile to find a download for it but its out there. I also use these to get rid of bloat winprivacy.de/english-home/ oo-software.com/en/shutup10 and ccleaner to rid of bs apps/leftovers I don't desire.
John Robinson
your opinion is worthless because you are retarded, kys
game mode isn't on by default and therefore wouldn't be affecting any of your games nice placebo though, seems to be really common with gamers.
Austin Mitchell
Yeah, but ... you're going to run a KMS server for a single device?
Robert Butler
talking about the game bar that runs every time you open a game or a game like app asking me if I want to broadcast and shit. The game performance thing was a nice idea, but the bloat it comes with no way.
Kayden Cooper
applies to this entire thread
Wyatt Martinez
What's better:
Server Education Enterprise (only version that can LTSB afaik)
I use Education personally
Jayden Foster
education and non LTSB enterprise is the same shit
Ryan Jones
that's literally just one toggle and it goes away forever although idk i use it for screenshots and clips all the time
Tyler Walker
It hides, but its not gone.
John Watson
Education because it's free with enterprise options. No need for kms, toolkit, etc. Y-You have gone to school r-right user?
Gabriel Morales
yes it is, it doesn't work at all with it toggled off you're probably actually wanting to reference the way they've changed how apps display, which has also impacted games obviously
Oliver Perry
Don't listen to this guy, all those tools will just break the os
Robert Wood
>W10 is required for Vulkan Nope my clueless user, W10 is required for Dx12. AMD gives gfx drivers for Vulkan (10% more fps in Doom4 fyi).
>all that stupid shit nigger just use lunix or 10 ltsb clean
Dylan Bailey
Use fucking Pro, user. Stop being a retard.
Connor Cruz
>have ltsb >activate windows watermark won't disappear really makes me think...
Juan Richardson
You can choose to not let it disabled updates you know, still get updates whenever they release and never have issues with everything disabled. >10 ltsb clean Where is that? Or do you just mean ltsb? Because even ltsb has shit needing to be disabled.
I think, unless they have a different process in europe.
Aaron Hall
no, of course not. the problem is it randomly turns on and off on boot sometimes
James Parker
>Or do you just mean ltsb? yes >Because even ltsb has shit needing to be disabled which can be easily done with GPOs, you have a GUI and everything. There's no point in adding extra third party botnet to an already botnet OS and probably break it will all that shit
Jackson Bennett
Apparently I can get it for free, but it said something about spamming my inbox with advertisements and other things
Colton Myers
Windows 10 Education, Version 1803 (Updated March 2018) 32/64-bit (English)
I thought 1803 came out late April, and not in March.
David Taylor
It did, but they still consider it a 1803 release instead of 1804 for whatever reason.
Alexander Sanchez
>Updated March 2018 It means it was updated in march and it already has the update in it.
Isaac Clark
>Windows 10 LTSB What I'm reading that the iso file is available for download, it's a 90 day trial. You can pay for a license afterwards if you are corporate and you bought a ton of it or if you pay a 7usd per month subscription. You know what? Fuck it, if it's a barebone OS without bloat and I get my software to work on it that I need for my small business I'll pay. Ffs as self-employed you can make 30k usd in my country easily. Lol at that 85 usd when you pay as much to Google to keep your documents in the cloud or a hundred times more to run your personal site with aggressive online marketing. There's a niche for this among business owners for sure, I like it.
Ayden Jackson
>Entire site is in Russian Will my computer be used to hack an election? >17GB Why?
Justin Thomas
>my email for my school still works after 4 years Jesus I scam so many places this way. Can't tell you how much $$$ I've saved on top of that with my military.
Jack Powell
>What I'm reading that the iso file is available for download, it's a 90 day trial or just pirate the clean msdn iso + kms activation
boom full ltsb 4lyf for $0 without nagware
Isaiah James
>Sorry, but this page was not found The file has been removed. Looked up the section that said to contain Windows iso's but that's empty too. Also the sire asks for captcha at every 5 minutes.
Aiden Campbell
Dude I will not run accounting software on a pirated OS. I need to use the shit the gubmint gives me officially and that's Windows only. Either buy a Win 7 pro license because it's still valid until January of 2020 or get new Win 10. Do you autist little child understand that the backdoors the NSA put into your OS and the backdoors you install yourself with your activation software ain't the same? Like NSA doesn't care of my bank accounts and passwords to hack me, the small shitty business in Eastern Europe. A fucking neckbeard without a job making these trojans does. Your activation thingy is basically a trojan. Again when you make 30k usd per year that 85usd doesn't matter, your phone bill per month could be larger if you work with 3 salesman at least.
It has all these ISO files: en_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_n_x64_dvd_9057894.iso en_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_n_x86_dvd_9058202.iso en_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_x64_dvd_9059483.iso en_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_x86_dvd_9060010.iso ru_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_x64_dvd_9057886.iso ru_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_x86_dvd_9058173.iso
It's a torrent. Use the magnet link!
Isaiah Clark
Yep. I hear some schools revoke credentials and cut off emails after graduating but lmao not mine, and I've saved so fucking much.
Justin Garcia
Apparently I can get 2016 server edition for free as well.
Chase Bailey
cool digits
Landon Cooper
>games, music production >windows 10 hope you like poor performance. even on the best hardware winblows wastes resources and wrecks the shit out of your drives
Hunter Butler
i sure as hell won't ever support anything related to apple, and linux is limiting for games, should i just install gentoo instead?
Also, my music production is not on an astronomical level, any i7 does the job
Christian Foster
also >wrecks the shit out of your drives can you elaborate on this?
Brayden Cooper
So, use Windows 7? Does the telemetry help you in any way in your line of work?
Adrian James
pros: >lightweight >unbloated >less updates which is fit for mission-critical work
cons: >doesn't have latest features >not secure
LTSB is a meme. One way or another you'll have to switch to Windows 10 (or go Linux). If you will continue with Windows do it properly. With the latest updates Windows Defender now has so many important security features. For Telemetry, there are many scripts/tools available. You can further harden the system with group policies and firewall. If you are really paranoid just use it with virtualization, and keep your personal shit in Linux and gaming shit in the virtual machine.
If you are still using Win7 and you are not a poweruser just go jump out of the window. I know Win7 is lightweight and has the ultimate desktop experience (after XP ofc) but the shit is NOT secure. And will even get more unsecure after it becomes obsolete.
John Sullivan
longer support, dx12 support and uefi based bios are keeping me away from 7
