Is WinRar still the standard on Windows?

Is WinRar still the standard compressor on Windows?
I'm going to Windows 10, just to try the thing out.

no, everyone with sense has been using 7zip for about a decade

use 7zip

Attached: baka.png (2560x1440, 1.76M)

I only use it in the rare occasion that unzipping a multi-part rar fails in 7-Zip since 7-Zip won't tell you which file failed.

Like once a year I come across a .rar that fails to open in 7zip, thats the only time I use winrar.

you should stick with winrar and buy the license desu

R u sure bout that

yes

>Notice that my little brother has winrar installed
>"Why the hell do you have this installed? 7zip is way better... I'll install it for you"
>"Oh, okay thank you"
>FF 2 weeks latter
>Winrar it's installed again
>"Uhm, why did you reinstall it?"
>"It's easier to use"
>uwot.png
>Leave him alone, if I install 7zip again he'll just install winrar again
>Intrigued about it, what makes 7zip hard to use for him?
>Turns out he installs a lot shitty FNAF fangames
>All the tutorials he sees to install them are made by retards who use winrar

I use 8 Zip from Finebits OÜ: finebits.com/zip.html

Had to pay $1 when in discount to get the full version. Don't really know what the free version lacks. Its nice.

it's zip compression and it works fine without any additional (excessive) programs
using literally anything else to share files is a dick move

7zip has been a standard for years now, more than a decade, actually.

7zip has been the standard for almost a decade.

Use 7zip or PeaZip

7zip is better

this is so true, i have exact same situation but with my cousin

>Is WinRar still the standard compressor on Windows?
2002 called. They said you're gay.

What makes 7zip superior? I've never really given this any thought

>tfw always used winrar
Give it to me straight lads am I a reet'?

No nag screen, and it’s fast

It can't handle some encrypted zip and rar files. While Winrar can handle them all. Propitiatory bs but that's what we have right now. So Winrar is the bestest. I used to think like you but one day I couldn't open an archive with 7zip and I was disappointed. Then I found out it was encrypted and winrar was necessary for it to be opened. Also you can easily unlock one with freely available serial keys on google.

This. WinRAR was a thing back in like 2002-2005, but since then it's all about 7zip.

>7zip with a shitty UI

>Rate

how do peepole find garbage software like this

>No nag screen, and it’s fast
What nag screen?

If you're a part of the tablet ibloat gen - 7zip
If you're not a retard winrar for no bloat and it-works (tm)
winzip if you are dumber than the tablet kids from Jow Forums.

Never had that happen. I don't suppose you still have that archive or know of a way to reproduce it?

I'm using Bandizip.
7zip looks and behaves like open source shit it is.

i had this problem only once in a lifetime, tried to extract some custom rom .rar in 7z and could never flash bootloader, extract same achive with winrar and everything flashed fine
i even doublechecked this because how absurd that was for me back then

the context menu addon is useful

Winrar+Winamp 4 lyfe

>If you're a part of the tablet ibloat gen - 7zip
That makes 0 sense, 7zip is as lean as it gets, while still offering features winrar lack, such as a two panel mode.

polak to zawsze woli ukraść niż dostać za darmo. Jprdl jaki smród.

> still using 7zip on Windows
> sorry the file path is too long lol but I'll just tell you the archive is curropt
> you have a multipart archive? Fuck you
> still no decent context menu integration
Seriously, if you choose to use 7zip on Windows just end your life now.

I use 7zip because it's better than WinRAR but I wish I had a better alternative, it lacks some features

Bandizip can into long paths and multipart archives, comrades. It support probably all archive formats too, not just zip.

Rest part are here gamepc18.net/sexy-beach-premium-resort-iso/

it needs winrar to combine all of them to create the complete install folder. Also there are few password protected archives which can only be opened with winrar.

did you pay for winzip as well

No, Explorer zip is the default compressor.

But Winrar is the most efficient one, just crack it.

Zip is the standard compressor on Windows. You can use it without install any shitty 3rd party program.

I still have winrar, only winrar can compress winrar, it's file recovery functions and a few other little quirks that 7zip just doesn't have.

7zip is just too finicky with non-unicode and special language characters.

Winrat has that, but it's not a n a submenu and therefore just clutters the list. That alone makes me prefer 7zip. But as another user said, out clients sometimes use encrypted multipart rar which winrar is better at, Ibtherefore use both.

If Jow Forums tells you to install 7zip, install WinRar instead.

>having a situation where your file path can be too long
Doing something wrong there, m8

Attached: 452354.jpg (301x301, 35K)

WinRar is fastest, sometimes by a huge margin
7-zip is free and has better compression

WinZIP has risen from the grave as the true king

> archives with a mass of subdirectories, folders within folders don't exist
> archives only exist to compress my collection of 2d cartoon porn that I regularly jack off to
Get a life

I'm talking about not naming your files "Jack and Amanda Lease Papers signed on 11-11-2017 archived on 31-12-2017 by Superintendent Samuel Adams"

I use it still. I like 7z compression but I don’t like the interface. Been using WinRAR since 99 so I probably won’t ever change. The license is literally just a tiny .key plain file so I just got it from 4shared years ago and placed it on my server for future installs.

I still use it on my home machines. I've had a license file since 05 that I can just drop in the program dir and it's paid up. It has a much nicer UI than 7zip and is in my experience generally faster, but on pretty much everything else I use 7zip.

RAR5 is such a nice file.
I use it to archive video and motion graphics stuff 20% to 80% compression.

No. Everybody started using 7zip since W7 got released.

Attached: file.png (234x321, 7K)

It's faster (for anything but .rar), has a bunch of checksum options and supports .7z, which is the supperior compression format.

The average user still uses Winrar, but people with some minimal tech savviness use 7zip.

Look at your mother's PC and the files people send to her. If compressed, they will be zip or rar, never 7z.

Those gaming channels are actually paid Winrar shills.

For this kind of case, isnt good programs like peazip?
>peazipshill
peazip is free yo

>download winrar trial
>open the exe in resource hacker and delete the nag screen

Attached: flat 800x800 075 f.jpg (800x476, 104K)

Why people still use .rar and .zip instead of based .7z?

braindamage or scene

>hurr I cracked it, it's the same as FOSS xD

You are still part of the botnet.

RAR5 is just as good as 7z and 7z interface sucks

Or just get the rarreg.key file from literally anywhere and copy paste

>lossless text compression alg on video
Literally why.

Winrar will sometimes consider archives to be corrupted and inaccessible if they contain eastern asian langauge text with certain encodings, even if your system locale is set to Japanese. 7zip does not have this problem.

Maybe the author just doesn't like weebs.

Attached: 1526426323770m.jpg (607x1024, 103K)

>hurr I will break compression algorithms on purpose that will show them those weeb pedos

>when winrar devs see that one license fee roll in

Attached: we-got-one.jpg (537x265, 70K)

>Multiple programs including dozens of professional ones are vulnerable to errors caused by superlong filepathes
>these errors are hard to diagnose and may cause major data fuckups
>every archiver throws a warning if a single too long path appears
>FUCK YOU you're not a boss of me. I decide to build my file structures of sensible data MY WAY! It's all 7zip's fault!
Spot a retard

Winrar has caused me 0 headaches in 20 years so I'm sticking with it.

I would totally do that. Fuck zipperheads.

I use to use rar but switch to 7zip it has a neat checksum checker with it

kek

7-zip.org/

>Not using 7-zip 18.05

7-zip is better because its freesoftware(libre)

>what is HJ split

.zip is simpler and more universal. If anything .tar.xz should be used instead of 7z cuz its more portable

7z may be a superior compression format to rar, but that's just because both are fucking retarded.

I've been using WinRar for 15 years, why should I change?

xz is considered harmful. Please consider using alternative file formats for LZMA compression instead of enabling Igor Pavlov's shenanigans.
nongnu.org/lzip/xz_inadequate.html

Anyone who doesn't use simple .zip that all OSes can open out of the box should be gassed.

>considered harmful
Opinion discarded.

.zip is just a container

>using inefficient compression

Is this real? You paid for fucking zip software? are you fucking retarded?

Just use the built-in unzipper.

I encounter mactard archives much more often (well since I never seen .rar files which 7zip couldn't handle)
