best way to set up windows and gnu/Linux on an x220? I have msata ssd and regular hdd, I was thinking install both os on msata drive, and share hdd for storage, but winjews wont read encrypted ext4

are there any 1600x900 ips panels available for the T420?

probably best to install each on a seperate drive and split the hdd 50/50 NTFS and ext4 for storage

This is now a Catto thread

Attached: help.jpg (456x628, 22K)

hard drives are cheap, what's the model/specs and price?

is there a heatsink upgrade or mod you can do to improve temps/noise on an x220? I've heard that you can install x230 cooler on an x220

99% sure you can do exactly that

So I'm thinking about upgrading my x201 TN panel to an IPS. Let me check in with you guys to confirm I have it all correct:

I need the CCFL inverter (FRU 42W8010)
>ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X200-X200S-X201-X201S-X300-42W8010-42W7975-YNV-W12-LCD-Inverter/263653254802?hash=item3d62f56692:g:TQYAAOSwHYpaDPVi

I need the CCFL cable (FRU 44C9909)

Finally the panel

>buying a 5 year old laptop

>buying a new piece of trash

Wish I could give you reddit gold for that image

$135 for a T420, no HDD (which I already have)

Split 50/50, maybe give more storage on the SSD to the Windows partition. Then just divide the hard drive the same, ntfs/ext4 split or BTRFS. If possible use F2FS

do you know if I can have the gnu/Linux install encrypted on the same drive as the windows install?

you can, so long as you split the partition accordingly beforehand

eh. try it again, especially if he was so accommodating the first time

How do Latitudes and Elitebooks compare? Keyboards don't seem as good as Thinkpads but which one of them better? What about their screens?

Attached: macshit clone.jpg (1600x1600, 498K)

So a normie friend is graduating and I wanted to get them a thinkpad. Since they are a normie they don't care about our superior taste. They also don't care about people on the internet laughing about what kind of keyboard is on their laptop.

I am thinking a x250 or an X1 carbon (both
5th gen i5), what do you guys think?

Attached: 2d7504d2ba19b95babf8dad08d93ca18.jpg (600x423, 27K)

Any decent flashrom/coreboot guides? can't seem to get flashrom on my pi to recognize my t420.

Attached: IMG_20180515_211140983.jpg (3952x2964, 3.68M)

Get them a macbook so they're actually happy

You need to specify spi speed when using FlashROM.

github.com/flashrom/flashrom/issues/29

If I had the money I would.

>tfw you run your finger around the softrim trackpoint

Attached: 125465467756.jpg (480x360, 17K)

Then don't buy them a laptop

Exactly this, don't buy normies thinkpads they will never appreciate it. Buy something thin, light and with aluminum body, normies love that shit they think it's "premium" lol.

Why would I want to buy something like a x230 and upgrade it to a
IPS Screen
16GB Ram
2 TB Hard drive + 256GB SSD
Extended Battery
X220 Keyboard
When I could just buy a new laptop instead?

If your normie friend is a girl giving her a second hand stinkpad is out of the question

This is exactly what I needed, thanks gents.

my ebay seller was supposed to ship my t470 within 24 hours of payment. i paid on saturday and he's still not taken it to the post office. thinking about cancelling/refunding the order and purchasing an L or E 480 from Lenovo's memorial day sale.

actually I also bought another (this one missing most parts) x200 just so I could replace the keys

any manjaro users here? my tp_smapi module is not working and I don't know what to do.

They're business laptops for businesses too poor to get thinkpads

Is it possible to swap out the docking port with a new one? or is my machine pretty much fucked? it is an x230

Why does everyone ignore the W520?

>falling for the sale meme

Modern Lenovo is universally trash and the only things that go on sale is what they can't push normally.

Is the X220 really better than the x230?

Just picked up an X220 for $120.

i7 (Only 100mhz faster than the i5)
12GB RAM, 128GB factory Samsung SSD, TN panel.

Already replaced the awful TN panel with a factory FRU IPS panel and swapped in an 850 PRO I had already. Pretty snappy machine.

They're still in the 300-400 range for excellent condition ones. Once they fall into the 200-300 range people will flock

I am pretty sure the x230 is better as you can put a x220 keyboard into a x230

It's basically impossible to get a decent condition X60 or X200 at their normal prices anymore
I hope you autistic motherfuckers are happy now

elitebooks were over 2k back then though

Attached: IMG_20180510_015425.jpg (2592x1944, 1.86M)

Those laptops are kinda getting old now anyways. You should get X220 or x230

In 8 years people will be scrambling to snatch up X280s and T480s because the "new thinkpads of 2026 are shit"

blame the trannyboot niggers, x61/x61t doesn't have this problem

No they won't

The only thing the X220 has going for it is the keyboard but you can install that on an x230 (with a modified bios) anyway

>mfw I just bought one pristine for $250

Attached: apple pie.png (236x308, 159K)

Reasons to buy an X220 or X230
Ports
Expandability (UltraDock, ExpressCard)
Upgradeable (RAM and SSD aren't soldered, neither is wireless card, battery can be removed and slice battery can be added)
Durability
That awesome look.

thinkcat :3

T470 I could see being popular but not much else.

How is upgradability a positive?

Thinkpad 25 (retro)

I like my x220 keyboard better than my HHKBpro2 mainly because of the natural wrist rest of the thinkpad and also the trackpoint

I am thinking about selling the HHKB2. Am I crazy

fuck me, it didn't work! installed encrypted manjaro alongside windows on the ssd, now it boots straight into manjaro without letting me choose os from grub menu like on my desktop

Yeah I mean they're out there, not saying you can't find em for that cheap, but for the most part the price is quite inflated on them

What a great deal m8. Makes me feel like an idiot for having just paid $300 for a refurb X230.

Attached: C1215546-727E-4794-88F0-BC367CA0B3C9.jpg (640x640, 112K)

Oh man that's one of the new-new ones. I can smell dat new pcb smell from here. Swear I smell the thing more often than i ssh into it.

Just bought an X61 on eBay with the dock in really good condition for AUD 185.00 it has 4GB RAM core 2 2.4ghz 500GB storage. I'm gonna chuck an SSD in it

So I bought a 2nd hand T430 for £80 (~$100) and I'm absolutely loving it. Considering selling my Surface Laptop.

Where from m8? ebay?

Gumtree, wanted to see it in person before I bought it. There was 3 or 4 for sale near me and this was the cheapest.

>10+ y/o core2duo, shitty dim low contrast screens, autistic mushy keyboards, 10 pound batteries
OR
>7th, 8th gen cpus, glorious WQHD IPS displays, slim yet functional concave-top and responsive chiclet keyboards, patended Powerbridge technology

just

Where can I buy a T60 palm rest & top lid for my T61? I want that IBM branding

kill yourself. you're literally the same as a macfag.

You can't deny that it looks cool

>it looks cool
literally a macfag

you bought a 9 year old laptop for more than 200 USD

136 USD you moron

read that as a different currency
still, you spent over 50 bucks for a 9 year old laptop

fair enough
Yeah desu it's a bit of a fun project to fuck around with after work.

Mfw I bought a t530 in pristine for $110 last year.

Attached: 1200.jpg (1200x675, 93K)

I only paid $130 for my x220t
fleabay for sure
Keke. I bought a t60 and put a t61 motherboard in it for a total of $60

I got burned by a flimsy laptop so I've decided to go with something more industrial and I think I've found one
touch.trademe.co.nz/listing/view/1629484091
Does this look good? Keep in mind its in NZD so its around 200 USD to buy

Is T440 really that bad? Seeing a mint condition one for $180.

I've read that you can upgrade the CPU in the t420; has anyone here done it?

200 bucks is really high for that, i bought a T420 this week for 80$ US with the same specs as you, some idiots overprice them.

For those specs, i would not go over 150, but things may be desperate on that Island of yours.

>wat trackpad for my T440p?
Try adding synaptics to ur search.
>look guise I bots me a super cheap trackpad fors my three butten masterrace!
>mfw I've got seven hours into this bitch and no fun yet
Steer clear of the Alps made h/w. Already received mine before knowing there were different manufacturers. Several claims of the alps version working, but gotta be after very much frustrations. There's a long thread over at the lenovo forum with decent images each to help if the keyword doesn't.

Been using my T420 for a while but looking for something smaller and lighter. Was thinking about an X250, pretty cheap and still relatively new. Yall think theres a better option for me?

what if i told you

elitebooks are actually better than chinkpads

You guys have to keep in mind that shit is super expensive in Australia and NZ compared to the states for this kinda second hand stuff.

Im not in the states tho, im in bumfuck nowhere in Yurop, but ur right kiwis have it worse being desolate

Ah my mistake. Yeah true but Euros have access to all the neighbouring countries. We just get fisted by chinks and yanks

What do you guys use the express card slot for?
Is there anything else to use it except for:
External GPU (It's better to just get a desktop instead)
Extra USB 3.0 ports (X230 has enough of them already)
Smart card reader/writer (seriously can't find a use for it)

T420 or T520

What are you after

What's different between them, which is better?

Anyone know the best place to buy a new battery for my x230? Should I just get an OEM or are the cheaper ones just as good?

Think you're better off comparing case by case of those for sale but overall the T520, it has a better i7 cpu, also can get full 1080p display aswell as better battery capacity.

T420 is smaller and lighter tho

is this a good deal or asking for trouble? ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T400-14-1in-250GB-2-26GHz-3GB-Notebook-Laptop-Black/302739860267?epid=129428016&hash=item467cb3ab2b:g:AroAAOSwp41a-zK2

It looks disgusting and its a T400

Managed to score all these bad boys, some T43's, T61's, R500's and few T400 and T410's. I'll be keeping a few for myself, which would you say is the most suitable to gut, then turn into a gaming laptop.

Im sure they will do fine as nintendo 64 emulators

Nice purchase tho
