And there's other minor details that I am absolutely sure will turn into an absolute shit-show, namely their refusal to service cars if there's any indication that the owner (or in Tesla's view RENTER) has done even the smallest repair or modification. They also refuse to fix things that are clearly manufacturing problems with claims that it "could have been in an accident" (like the owner wouldn't have noticed?) and things like that. We're not talking some small shady company refusing to honor the warranty on some small item like a bluetooth speaker. Tesla makes cars. People aren't not going to accept bullshit excuses and neither will large government bodies like the EU. I see lawsuits and large fines hitting Tesla down the road.

SpaceX has saved the government a ton of money on launches, by being much cheaper than ULA rockets. That supply contract NASA gave them early in their history was probably the most cost effective aerospace contract in the US in the last 40 years.
Compare that with how Boeing and the SLS is turning out, billions of dollars so far with nothing tangible yet; Block 1 SLS isn't expected to launch until 2021. And the Block 1 SLS is only slightly more capable than the Falcon heavy (70 tons to LEO versus 64 tons) that is flying now, and is several times cheaper.

They have been trashing the returned rocket stages after only after a few launches instead of the near 100s of reuses they claim. They state they're doing this because they're 'advancing' the stage design which is horseshit just like their 1000 version tesla cars which are tweaked in short iterations. So, in effect, they're just another rocket company doing what everyone else has been doing before they came into the mix. Elon isn't a snake oil sales men in the sense that you're thinking and his companies not a failure until you go much deeper beyond the smoke and mirrors. The point is that he does what everyone else is doing by copy/pasting already established industries and then makes claims of grandeur about how he's doing something revolutionary. This gets investment capital, support, and customers from as you just demonstrated 'other people'. He then assigns promises to an ever and perpetually moving goal post w/ continuing to suck in capital to 'make it there'. Perpetual fake it until you make it.
His consistent and higher promoted non-success leads me to believe that the rumors about having a shadow backing is true. This is glaringly obvious in the types of projects/companies he embarks on that all have a coincidental way of being tied to the govt. From strategic infrastructure to rockets.
