Beyond what little they taught me in high school, what really got me going was building/running a video game music shoutcast internet radio with song requests. Long defunct now. Anyone remember VGAmp? What a hackjob that was.

I want money

Trying the mod tools from Neverwinter Nights, then I started coding little games in LUA for the PSP

Didn't really know what I wanted to study, but I liked computers and wanted to get better so I applied for CS and found out that programming was pretty fun.

The fact that I am autistic and wanted to create .exe files.

Jow Forums got me into programming

I used to just come here to shitpost back when I was still in school, then I started doing the programming challenges that get posted, 10 years later and I got a comfy dev job in finance.

thank guys

Studying C in high school

what do you think where you are

>"who actually gives a shit"
>Lisp
>Sublime
>Emacs

>wanted to learn how to use cryptography in real life
>learned some C in progress
>learn how to design software in the way of unix philosophy and design with privilege separation
>learned networks and protocols
>learned OS design
>encountered Plan 9, my soul has never been the same ever since
>learned language design
>wrote toy OS
>wrote toy interpreters and compilers
>had short gamedev phase
>just absorbing new shit every day for 3 years straight
>overcome retardation of starting at age of 20

Nothing wrong with Emacs and Lisp

I want to get by CCNA, CCENT, etc. and be a network administrator. Should I bother learning programming at all? Maybe Python or C++? How much does networking and coding overlap?

For me, a mix of and runescape

Jailbreaking my ipod made me realize technology could be cool

Worse yet, I stayed a virgin until my 30th birthday to gain magical powers and nothing happened

Turtle graphics when I was 8yo or so.
Programming text adventures on my TI-83.
Some JavaScript and Python, tried to automate some shit, but it took longer than doing it by hand.
Now learning C# to recreate that turtle graphic software.

I wanted to make games and applications.

21 and after.

I was 7 and wanted to make games.
Started with Game Maker then tried to learn c++ but I was lazy so finishing learning the basics (loops, conditionals etc) took me a few years and I used a shitty tutorial that wrote way too much that somebody just starting needs to know.

>wanted to make a game with a neo-nazi friend I chatted with on M$ MSN
>she was the best friend I had in middle-school
>I never met her but I told her I would help her program the game and she would do the designs
>she made an entire image board herself
>we stopped talking when MSN got fucked
>she is a graphical designer and I'm a codemonkey in an entry level job
I miss those times

i found codecademy
then freecodecamp and i realised i enjoy autistically sitting at some problem trying to make code work
no bully please

I got some old PCs from my aunt & uncle, I installed Debian on it and my G3 Lombard at the time. I fiddle fucked with those every day after class in highschool and liked it. Eventually I started writing bash and PHP and just kept doing that more or less.

making a myspace theme

Who are those guys? Asking for a friend.
