Yes

Walk to your nearest grocery store ask to talk to the store manager and tell them you need a job.

Yes, its that fucking easy you lazy piece of shit.

It actually isn't. It's a bunch of awful 'apply online fuck off' bullshit where you apply , don't know if it works, and never get a response.

t. boomer

I meant a job that's actually worth having.

It isn't any different, you apply online and then talk to the manager and tell them you want a job and you are in their system.

99% of the other applicants don't do that and they can put a face to the name so you will automatically get it.

>that 30 year old boomer who believes its still this easy

you forgot the firm handshake part

>It isn't any different, you apply online and then talk to the manager
>and then talk to the manager

retard

literally the only way I ever go a job was after I followed up

They have support systems in place for disabled autists to help them get interviews, you should check it out.

What a fantasy dude

>"Hello, my name is user I applied online last week. Just calling to check if my application had been reviewed yet."

Works if you are white and decent looking.

you dumdum, learn java and html to make a site for the grocery store and add your resume and they'll be like damn this guy should work at our cash register

>Create a thread looking for advice on getting a tech job
>Instead it's neets complaining about how hard it is to get a bottom of the barrel minimum wage job they hire literal retards for

Thanks for nothing guys

Attached: 1526587273310.jpg (480x504, 30K)

Min wage here is $11.50, honestly not that hard to live on.

just sell lemonade dude

Y'all are retarded.

Write up a resume and hit Indeed.com listings with it if you're too lazy to fill out full applications. If you get zero responses then fucking lie on your resume.

If you don't get the job after an interview think about what went wrong. Social skills? Take a xanax next time. Transportation? Figure that shit out faggot. Inexperience? Work on lying.

That's it.

Yes. In spite of all the poojeet memes, it’s a very popular language in the working world and as such will open more doors than almost any other language. Don’t come at me with autistic shit about C or Haskell. For a normal, good job hiring managers want JVM experience.

tech jobs, mcjobs
all the same, all make me want to die

This is good advice for mom & pop shops, but nowhere else.

If you call a big store (ie. nationally recognized chains) asking to speak to the manager you're going to piss him off. There's way too much overhead for them to waste time in a conversation that boils down to "I really want this job" "OK cool".

t. worked in retail 5 years

I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread is looking for the answer. It's sad to see some people can't get minimum wage jobs though.

If you haven't worked in a while don't expect to get a tech job without some luck unless you're a fucking master at whatever is required by the job you're applying to.

If you haven't worked any job because everything is below you then don't expect to get far at all without knowing somebody.

I've had wagecuck jobs and I've saved up enough money and quit. Now I want to actually get a job where I can learn and be proud of my work.

Ive thought about lying but im too much of a pussy about getting called on it

The poojet memes don't even make sense. Every language feels like a pajeet language now

All good advice. I’ll add: make your LinkedIn look professional and flip the “IM LOOKING FOR A JOB” switch, and recruiters will be sucking you off within the hour.

t. 25 year old boomer NEET

No man Ive been a wagecuck for too long. I have $25k saved up and I have quit. I want to get a good job now please I want to have a good future

Don’t lie, but if you even do some Hello World shit with any framework or tool or click the buttons on AWS to have it do that for you, you can put it on your resume and say you did a basic project in it.

That's only true when they aren't hiring.

When they have over like 40 or 50 employees they are almost always fucking hiring.

No one is going to call you a liar, they're just going to call you a fucking retard to their co-workers after the interview if you flop.

Lying is a dangerous game to play regardless, but it can definitely get your foot in the door. You definitely want to be skilled at something though, what you would be lying about is having experience... you should still be decent at what you're lying to earn.

I was just talking in general, does all of what I said apply to entry level IT positions as well?

I worked at a large chain superstore
I just talked to customer service and they directed me to HR
I never call to follow up though, always in person

>country has 50% unemployment rate
>cousin with law degree got a job as a street-sweeper after paying a 10k$ bribe
>that 2 years worth of his salary
>making median wage puts you well below the poverty line
>most entry level jobs have 12h/day, 6days/week schedules
>most companies break the law by not paying into healthcare and pension funds
>getting hurt on the job usually ends with you getting fired, only you can't get any benefits because when you get hired you have to sign an undated resignation form that gets dated by your boss whenever he feels like it

>just get a job

what country, sounds amazing

All I've done so far is learned some Python and been doing random challenges on websites with it. Should I learn web development? Seems a little easier to get into.

Please? Why are you saying please? Stop acting like a little bitch, people in debt with $0 savings and no job have more confidence than you.

Clearly the desire is there. Now take that desire and pursue something. Don't ask Jow Forums if a language is worth learning, go out into the world and take action, whether that's talking to people with IT experience or hitting the books and learning. Your desire amounts to nothing without action.

>Min wage here is $11.50
Yeah and now in the rural town I live in, employers have cut hours and rent is skyrocketing. How fucking spectacular

>Clearly talking about North America where the jobmarket is actually quite good right now
>Starts talking about some central african shithole

A degree doesn't mean shit if you can't back it up in practice.

Oh and to preemptively answer the inevitable "lmao just move to the city where there are jobs" argument, Seattle is a grossly overpriced shithole, so...

Yes.

I am never going to complain about Malaysia again.

>3% unemployment rate
>"WE ARE HIRING" stickers on almost every shop
>any job, even McJobs, will take you above the poverty line

The unemployment rate in the USA is much higher than it actually is advertised.

The problem Im worried about is that it feels like you're either an expert in C++ with 10 years exp or you're unemployed so that's why im looking for something a little easier to break into

I know I sound cowardly and unable to follow my own intuition but I am losing hope

>The problem Im worried about is that it feels like you're either an expert in C++ with 10 years exp or you're unemployed

Don't fall for Jow Forums maymays my dude.

Commute.

And before you bitch about transportation you can lease a car for $100/mo

Because of boomers aging and more people in college

Get into web dev, you can learn it relatively fast and put together a decent portfolio. Talking out my ass though, maybe an actual web dev can verify.

t. Some Java nerd who talked to some web dev guys who got a job in the company after 6 months of self teaching

So learn and keep learning. I don't know what else to say... if you can manage to land an interview you're halfway in the door. It's up to you to practice a skill until you feel able to express that skill to others.

No, it is because the U.S government surveys unemployment in such a way that leads to inaccurate results.

if you want a job learn javascript.

if you are above average at javascrip and knows at least some basic network and web tech, you literally cannot be without a job.

Can't. Memes have taken over my brain, I see memes everywhere in real life now. Every language feels like a meme now because there's been a thread mocking everything.

I stopped using Jow Forums too but now i have a fear I will become rich then a racewar or communist revolution will begin and ill die

>Commute
Prices outside of the city are skyrocketing too, not Seattle 2018 high but certainly Seattle 2015, which was still expensive.
The Seattle commute is one of the worst in the country and is continuing to get worse. Additionally the City Council is dead-set on making it like London regarding driving into the city with their downtown tax. So you're advocating communiting, spending up to 2 hours each way for a """"high paying""" job so you can pay your exorbitant rent?

Big Tech and over taxation have ruined Seattle and are the cancers of Washington state.

I know people who have gotten hired after being able to articulate how to pass arguments into parameters. Granted, the company was scrapping for bottom of the barrel at the time, but hey.

You need to get off the internet for a while, and maybe just hang with normies till the memes get flushed out of your system. Jow Forums is satire, it should not become your reality.

what if you're a retard

B-but the withdrawals... once the panic starts to kick in I just want to jump off a balcony.

I can't do it without my Jow Forums maymays. Normies are just too normal.

Wow, what a roundabout way of saying Capitalism ruins everything through commodity fetishism and alienation, all while exploiting labour and the environment!

But life needs to be lived. You cannot stay on Jow Forums forever!

Technically I'm living life by breathing and still browsing Jow Forums. Care to argue?

It's time to go to sleep Bernie.

Bruh its not Capitalism or Socialism that is ruining anything. The people in charge of those institutions (Big Tech, Seattle City Council) suck and are only concerned with furthering their interests.

>Care to argue?
Too tired right now to argue for argument's sake, particularly since you seem intelligent and thus you probably know exactly what I meant.

I have taken large breaks but the stupid fucking memes are burned into my brain. I need psychiatric help.

>intelligent
>browsing g
That's where you're wrong, pal.

What are some good cities to check out for opportunities? Heard Austin'll be big in a year or two.

This. I'm damn near retarded and I have been employed thanks to js for 9 years. There are no end of js devs who are even dumber than me apparently.

Why is JavaScript so good

On the off chance you're serious, did you learn HTML/CSS first or jump straight into JS? And do you learn JS with JQ, angular, node, or what that especially confuses me

money is money desu

yes, but get a job in the meantime, too. Just knowing Java doesn't get you anywhere because any retard can learn Java. Knowing java, and proving that you know how to work with a team and be a leader- that will get you places.

It literally makes no difference unless it's a local company, then the difference is usually marginal

I spent 7 years in foodservice, with a couple assistant management roles in there. Please don't talk to me unless there's it's regarding the food or the service, I'm not a fucking counselor nor am I your personal liaison, and I can guarantee you I'm not the one hiring people. Most managers who actually do their job are already busy enough.

Do this, but over the phone at a time where you know the place won't be busy.

Come to minnesota, it's cold as fuck 7 months out of the year but cost of living is low, public services are outstanding and the people are friendly

People use javascript because they're retarded, you'll fit in fine

Can someone explain why some people think JavaScript is for retards and some think it's good

sounds legit my dude ty

but whats javascript, is it like java with scripts?

1. You're on Jow Forums
2. It can get you employed

Think for yourself retard

>Come to Min
Sign me the fuck up desu I actually love cold weather. I used to spend time with family in Saint Paul and really liked it.
As someone who wants to go into sysadmin and transition into a security admin, how are the job prospects? Finally, how are housing prices for ownership, my wife and I have a daughter and our goal is to own a home in the next few years.

Javascript is very forgiving: Many things that will not work in other languages will work in Javascript. Therefore, retards have an easier time learning it.

Javascript is good, in that it is necessary for webdev jobs, and there are (approx) 83 trillion webdev vacancies at the moment.

Okay I will learn it but how do I make sense of the 300 different frameworks.

Start with pure JS first. Add HTML and CSS second. Worry about frameworks later.

How long should be adequate to work on my JS skills before applying since it's retard proof and I am a retard?

Different user here; how much of a transition would the jump from Java to JS be?

Ty I will do it and report back in 6 months. Going to sleep any last advice for me?

Java and Javascript are two completely different things. There is no relation, at all.

However: Learning any programming language means learning lots of universal concepts, like loops, functions, decision making, etc. These universal concepts, once learned, are applicable in all other languages. In other words, your second programming language will be much easier, since you will already know 70% of it that is shared with the first language that you learned.

Best of luck, user. Keep studying and trying. If a concept does not make sense, come back and ask us here, or try your preferred forum.

No I'm aware they're completely different. I ask because I'm relatively fluent in Java whereas have not touched JS. Is the syntax close enough where the jump isn't that bad?

I'm also familiar with PHP which - may - be closer to how JS is, simply because they're both dynamic? Again I don't know, I haven't done much with JS.

Sorry I meant in terms of progression. Ive tried a few languages but I'd learn the basics, make a few practice programs and get frustrated and bored since I have ZERO idea of how to create something useful.

There feels to be a thousand different books, websites, courses and other things for every language which confuses me further.

>I'm relatively fluent in Java
JS, in terms of difficulty, is much easier.

>I'm also familiar with PHP
Then there is nothing left, really. You could pick up the basics of JS in an hour, no exaggeration.

Spectacular. So I'm a student in a 2 year infosec program. It's closer to what I imagine a trade school would look like if sysadmins had trade schools. The electives I've taken up are computer science. While I'm learning I'm probably too much of a brainlet for a 4 year CS degree, what should I seek to take away from the CS courses I'm in now? For instance, we're covering algorithm analysis right now: determining an algorithm's Big O notation. What else should I try to focus on while in this class?

>I have ZERO idea of how to create something useful.
That is fine, if you are just studying. You probably will never create something truly useful until programming is your job.

Take a look at pick related. Once you are comfortable in your preferred language, start doing some of these challenges. You will quickly learn just how good you actually are, and whether or not you need more practice, or if you are ready to get a job.

How does someone actually learn JS? I have yet to see a book, free or otherwise, that teaches JS like a traditional textbook

Literally dont even bother with min wage mcjobs unless you are going to be on thd street. FUCKING TRUST ME. try to get welfare and live in your parents basement and teach yourself a useful IN DEMAND skill, dont care what it is it can be welding or programming or fucking juggling, YOU ARE LITERALLY BETTER OFF JUGGLINGON THE STREET FOR CHANGE THAN WORKING AT MCDONALDS.
Someone is bound to respond to this post with shit about "contributing to society". IF YOU FALL FOR THIS RHETORIC, THE JOKE IS ON YOU

This. I quit my pizza delivery job because it was interfering with school. While tips were good, the pay wasn't worth the time I was losing.

just learn JS. stop spending time being paralysed analysing which way is the best and just do it.

Let us assume that there are multiple degrees of programming capability:

0- Zero skills in programming (I know that programming is a thing that some people do)
1- Being able to program (I can write a for loop)
2- Being able to make a useful program (I just made a calculator in Java)
3- Programming like a master (I just refactored this code to increase overall program efficiency by about 5%)
etc

99% of jobseekers are level 0. A typical job that is not at NASA or Google will require only the skills from level 2.

I am engineering, not CS, so I do not know what you are studying. "Algorithm analysis" sounds like something from level 3. It is an excellent thing to learn, and will let you work for Google! Just make sure that you have 1 and 2 covered first, because 99% of your colleagues won't do that.

Once you learn to program like a master, you will be better than I am. So remember this... and come back and teach me, ok?

lingua franca of the web. the web, being so fucking large, means large number of JS devs and therefore all the techs support JS.

Long-term unemployed giving up and part time people aren't counted.

I was hoping for something either exercises along the way. That book seems pretty short, like a reference, unless I looked over it too fast?

I live near Seattle. I got a job offer with an online application, got the job the day I interviewed. Zero work experience, no references, 15/hr. Quit being an excuse making faggot and float your line, pussy.

Fucking this, but especially if it's just going to interface with school or cause unnecessary stress in your life, assuming you don't actually need the money of course. I always laugh when I hear/read about how well the economy is doing and how "employers cant fill job openings". Of course they leave out the point where you get paid like shit, get treated like an animal and get tossed on your ass the second you get sick or injured or the company/business goes to shit. Most jobs aren't even worth showing up to interview for to begin with.

Realistically you should check out a university's web dev course syllabi. It may have a useful reading list for JS.
Alternatively and unironically check out Khan Academy. I'm not familiar with their JS curriculum but their math stuff is stellar.

>$15 an hour
That's min wage there senpai. Hope you've got roommates lined up, rent isn't cheap.

Also, we have this nice thing called 'casualization' going on, just like muh videogames but irl. Employers take a normal full time wageslave job i.e. supermarket checkout, and chop it up into 3 casual employment jobs, so that each person works like 10 hours a week or whatever. THESE PEOPLE ARE COUNTED AS EMPLOYED. So 1000 fulltime jobs are turned into 3000 casual postions and unemployment drops. But essentially, 1000 people just lost their fulltime work. Google 'precariat class'
