OpenOffice requires an account, so LibreOffice is the best.

Stop being cheap and sign up for Office 365, user. It works on GNU/Linux too.

Bot net

It's an Office Suite. Its not supposed to be private. THe nature of it is to share things with coworkers you dumb neet.

Microsoft is not my coworker.

those open alternatives are all shitty. just buy msd office like a man

TexMaker

I am actually a Windowsfag, mainly due to the fact that software I need does not work on Linux.
I've been using OpenOffice since like grade 7 probably.
Also I don't have any coworkers to share files with. I run my own show.
This
Microshit shills out in full force tonight?
The only app that is better in M$ Office is PowerPoint. I do not make slide shows though, if I was working for AMD marketing dept. I would consider. I however only require a text editor and spreadsheets.

openoffice hasnt been updated in years why is this a debate

Uhhhh?
>Last stable release 4.1.5 (December 30, 2017; 4 months ago)
Don't tell me you are that retarded to be stuck on OpenOffice.org for 7 years and not knowing that the world has moved on.

Only good answer

You:
>Look at me, I am a coder. Some normie asks about document editor so I will show how cool of a hacker I am and suggest TexMaker
Are you gay, or stupid? Or both?

If you send .doc/x to a tech employer you're not getting a job

you use word to create pdfs, dumb dumb

>If you send .doc/x to a tech employer you're not getting a job
I work in applied science and TeX is an actual standard that all the relevant publications demand your paper source to be in so they can easily adapt your content to their styling. Why would you not just send PDF, exported from an office application or not, of you're in tech?

hmm, I disagree on powerpoint. I think lo's presentation is pretty decent. the only inferior app is excel's counterpart, calc. other than that, libreoffice is pretty solid

Because ability to work with tex looks better to employers

My strategy is I have a basic .docx for companies that require .docx, and for the rest of the companies I use my LaTeX resume

Issue with impress is scaling is fucked when importing from a ppt

Implying I am in a market for a job lol
Fucking wageslaves

Libre couldn't do drag & drop date adding, so Open

Star / Open / Libre it's literally the same shit

OpenOffice

Get FreeOffice 2018, user.

I doubt most employers really give a shit about your resume to the point that they're examining your PDF submission to make sure it's from LaTeX source.

That's code monkey-tier shit you can train someone to do in a few weeks.

>no one has pointed out that after the acquisition of OpenOffice by Oracle, the original developers jumped ship to create the now superior LibreOffice
>there are people in this thread who are unironically still using OpenOffice despite this fact
It sure is summer in here.

OpenOffice

Open office because it's on ninite

Libre office when my ancient client has wordperfect files

Dude, what are you on about?
Oracle bought Star Office back in 1999 and released the OpenOffice soon after.
Discontinued development in 2011 and donated the whole project to Apache foundation.
So if you are referring to transaction from 1999, newsflash, that's almost 20 years ago, irrelevant now.

You mean 2010. Regardless there are still security issues.

Last stable release of OOO was from Jan 2011

No I mean the newest acquisition of OpenOffice by Oracle was in 2010. Everything died soon after. Security issues come from Apache.

But Sun and Oracle are one? Engineers from Sun jumped the ship to work some free shit office app?

But whatevs, I think I am going to try LO then.
Been using OO since 2006 or so

LaTeX documents are faster to make. I was working with college friends on something months ago and they decided to use Google Docs. They spent hours trying to make formatting work properly. TexMaker is simply better, you can input text and format it later while office editors are distracting and clunky. The ONLY way to make writer/word work as well is to open up a separate text editor and type text there, then later copy it into Writer and format it.

>a reliable software which never failed me, even when writing my thesis on it, with professional developers and industry backing and good enough PR team to rule out weeb mascots
>vs
>something basically dead with only a handful autismos working on it with not enough manpower to fix basic security holes

Gee, I wonder.
BTW, don't fall for the botnet and meme suggestions They don't know what they are talking about.

Calligra. I'm on Debian KDE.

TexMaker is nice
But it's not an office suite

>office suite saying NO THANKS to windows registry clusterfuck
>office suite that can be carried as an EDC on pendrive

LibreOffice
It's just so good and it's getting better
OpenOffice was good too but it got a little stale and LibreOffice just works
MS Office is horse turd after 2010

Kys

I am not sure why they even mention it. Is Jow Forums full of wannabe hacker children?
>hurrr durr look at me using coding software

Just use vim and latex you fucking normies

Okay, done. Proud Libre fag now

Attached: 5.21.2018.png (3840x1080, 257K)

I wish this was the case

I wish all these stupid Office users would at least do this.

Attached: libre_is_here.png (200x205, 10K)

This but unironically

and what am I going to use when I have to make presentations? and when I have to use spreadsheets?

>t. weeb who is angry libbie didn't become the mascot

>presentations?
beamer
>spreadsheets?
While you could so this with Latex as well, I can see why you wouldn't want to if you need more than a simple table.

Office 365
You guys can afford $6 a month, right?

Unacceptable

>$6 a month
Holy shit. It's 3$ for all the time you are a student.

LibreOffice Calc:
>you can use regular expressions in formulas
It's fucking great, but:
>It must be set in fourth submenu of settings
>it's set globally and has to be changed to match document otherwise calculations would be fucked up
>it works with selected functions, you have to dig through help to find out which
Why didn't they implement it better, safer and more convenient?

Does OpenOffice allow regex in formulas?

You pay for it through tuition when you're a student, dumbass

>You pay for it through tuition
I pay €300 a year.
Not sure my German tuition pays for that.

>what are taxes
But I guess mommy and daddy pay for those

>what are taxes
I'm a citizen of another country.
Also, I __really__ doubt German taxes pay for Microsoft. products.
>Mommy and Daddy
Nice argument, but no.

Burgers being this butt mad that in other countries you don't have to become an indentured slave to the bankers for next 20 years to get your meme degree.

Attached: 226253.jpg (682x767, 57K)

I needed a free excel alternative, first google result was openoffice so I downloaded it. It works well so no reason to change to anything else.

Calligra runs on Windows. Just use chocolatey to install.

to be fair i am pretty butt mad thats why I wanted the commie Sanders just to see what would happen, but alas, pol literally won

latex

Universities don't just pirate their software

lwn.net/Articles/637735/

>As things stand now, it is hard not to conclude that LibreOffice has won the battle for developer participation.

Use the one that is actively developed, LibreOffice

Not the one that is on life support, OpenOffice that is barely developed

>Universities don't just pirate their software
True. But we can't know for sure, what kind of contracts they have with software companies. At the end of the day, I pay €150 per semester and have $3 office for as long as I study here.

You'd need to spend less money protecting Shitsrael first and that's not gonna happen. There is no more money in the budget as long as you keep pumping that much money in war machine. Take a look at Pooland for example, your military alone is 2/3 of their entire GDP, yet they can afford free public universities.

While they get their deals, they still pay with money, which mostly comes from taxes.
Especially shit like deals for all students will be paid with tax money.

>While you could so this with Latex as well, I can see why you wouldn't want to if you need more than a simple table.
you don't want to ever do any spreadsheets on latex dude

>Especially shit like deals for all students will be paid with tax money.
I'd like to see citation for that.

It's kinda obvious though. That money has to come from somewhere. You think that Apple, Microsoft etc. like to just give shit away half free?

That's how universities operate in Germany.
Fundraising is a minor thing compared to other countries, and those funds aren't used for basic things every student should have access to since those would already be paid by the regular budget which comes from tax money.

Open Office (btw: no account needed) on some machines, MS Office on my main PCs

Emacs

Thanks goys but I already decided
↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓

Are you dumb? Do you think they just hand shit out for free?

>give software to students/unis for free/dirtcheap
>students graduate and go work for companies
>companies buy sofware focusing on "muh productivity" aka "the shit that most workers are familiar with"
>companies pay real monies for software
Yes, they just hand shit out for free and you have a lot to learn, boy.

They do that in grade schools dipshit

It only proves my point, brainlet.
The sooner indoctrination starts the more effective it is.
How did you even find this board being this stupid?

Attached: brainlet.jpg (900x900, 73K)

LaTeX is also great for presentations

> and when I have to use spreadsheets?
