I just got 18.04 LTS, Line numbers and grid pattern gone! No preferences tab anywhere. Wtf happened? I had no problem with Nautilus, but don't fuck with my precious gedit!

Click 'Text Editor' on the Top Bar and you should see it in the drop-down menu.
Leave this board. Now.
Thank you for trying to make Ubuntu better.
Line numbers and grid pattern in gedit are gone. There's no setting, it's what the designers chose for how the editor should work. This will not change.
I don't think I live in an abstract hell anymore.

Oh yeah, and what's your choice, X feces?
They took a play out of Apple's book.
This is the reason why I am considering switch to something like exwm.
sudo snap install vscode
LITERALLY anything else.
Preferences are now here. And all settings are present.
Is that as comfy as it looks? Because that looks very comfy.
Is there a way to install gedit on windows?
It is pretty comfy.
Absolutely!
It's pretty old though. But you can build it from sources.
Install GNU Emacs
M-no-thx
