It's fine.

XML's cool. I like it. lots of uses outside of sitemaps and skins.

because xsd

Those who get rid of xml are doomed to reinvent it.

Fuck Adobe for deprecating XML support in Dw CC 2017/2018

What makes it better than the competition?

The fact that it exists.

What other markup language do you think is competing with XML?

Markup? TeX is a fantastic markup language, but I think they occupy separate roles.
JSON and S Expressions are vastly better than XML.

JSON is not a markup language and is not a replacement for XML. sexprs are an abomination and the fact that no one wants to use it should be an indicator for you. Tex is something else entirely.

>WHY WON'T YOU DIE
getting triggered by some ascii codes.

>Tex is something else entirely
You don't know what you're talking about at all. TeX is clearly a fucking markup language. There are tons of cases of XML being abused for the purpose of serialization. S Expressions are so simple to parse that you can build your own and cover whatever cases you need to simply. JSON also handles many roles that XML is abused for. I'm not even saying that XML is always the wrong choice, but it is overused and cancerous.

Name one thing XML can do JSON can't do.

>TeX is clearly a fucking markup language
Not a general purpose markup language, which is the point of XML.

>There are tons of cases of XML being abused for the purpose of serialization.
Okay? And?

What do you think markup languages are? I'm starting to think you're really confused.

Tex is a typesetting system. It's not a general purpose markup language, It does allow for markup, but what you can use is strictly defined. You use \sqrt for square root. XML has none of predefined logic for tag names or tag attributes.

I think the real difference is semantic vs. presentation. TeX and LaTeX are meant to markup how a document will look while XML is usually used to markup the semantics of a document. Both are flexible enough to be used the other way around, like using pandoc to convert the semantic portion of a LaTeX document to another markup language, or XSL-FO.

who uses it anyway now

json for apis, yml for configs

There is no replacement for type setting data.
quads confirm

>json for apis, hson/json5/SDLang/toml/ini for configs, yml for the trash can
ftfy

how the fuck is yml for trash can? it's the most popular language for project configs

>There is no replacement for type setting data.
What about LaTeX? For purely "typesetting" it seems like an alternative.

And Python and JS are the most popular scripting languages. What does that tell you?
BTW, yml is only the most popular config language for scriptfags.

It isn't, though. Tex is purely print-oriented, turing-complete (which makes it annoying to automate and validate) and its ecosystem is full of non-standard, unreliable scripting garbage. Its best use in the modern typesetting industry is as an alternative to MathML.

>Dreamweaver

Statically typed.

What does this mean? XML doesn't really have "types" at all, while JSON does.

I like YAML. I don't understand why it doesn't allow tabs tho.

what did he mean by that?

/* faggot */

Most people follow the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

yaml json > xml

Delete your post. You're embarrassing yourself.

You'd rather have json?

I hate the bloated formatting, useless waste of disk space and bandwidth.
And no, I'm not a third worlder running a potato, it's just irritatingly inconvient.

it's bloated to you because your use-case is trivial

some of us are pros with 100+ pages called 'index.html' on our discs, and umpteen different server configs, with not much forgiveness if we fuck up, -and must have settings backup if work PCs decide to lay fucking egg.
Dw is a fully pro tool.
