What happened to Jow Forums's mesh project?

All I remember was a tranny and someone named Knotts. Did anything ever become of it?

Last I remember there weren't enough users
But I saw someone recently mention some IRC or something where they kept it going

Nobody cared. The closest-to-a-little-useful new thing today is ZeroNet that can sit on top of Tor.

No, it's not good against nation states or whatever, but at least they figured out how to host some cosplay galleries on it. Heh.

ZeroNet has absolutely nothing to do with a meshnet last I checked. And out of the "distributed web" type projects it's the worst, broken by design.

>ZeroNet has absolutely nothing to do with a meshnet last I checked
Code-wise, no. I'm just summarizing the situation. ZeroNet is the only thing that found any adoption recently.

> And out of the "distributed web" type projects it's the worst, broken by design.
The other projects fail to work or have users, so I guess it got first place by default.

BTW it still is running a mesh network regardless. Even if it's not based on the same code.

>being a TLA
>get list of 30 people actually running ZeroNet
>arrest them all, just in case

so what decent meshnets are there that allow anyone to start a node?

Yea, this doesn't protect you against states that arrest you for using encrypted data or such. Good luck with that.

It's just a censorship resistant CDN thing atop of an obfuscation layer that grants some privacy against entities that aren't big/powerful enough to take a major national spy agency's place.

> The other projects fail to work or have users, so I guess it got first place by default.
ZeroNet is the only one that fails to work.

Ipfs has users, I hear about it more often than about ZeroNet at least. Even Freenet has a bunch of content, even if it's basically dead these days.

IPFS?

no Jow Forums project has ever borne fruit
you're all a bunch of good for nothings

None. The infrastructure simply isn't there. Skycoin is trying to do something with antennae and shit, but it gets a lot of criticism for being unlikely to amount to anything, yet it's one of the most advanced projects right now. That should give you an idea of how shit the situation is

>ipfs
>meshnet
Please, tell me how you plan to host an ipfs node without connecting to centralized ISP infrastructure

>ZeroNet is the only one that fails to work.
No. It's the only one that does work.

> Ipfs has users
As far as I can tell, very few. It barely mirrors two porn sites and WP, and that's about it.

Still going strong, join their IRC.

> No. It's the only one that does work.
It literally doesn't. Have they fixed the core design fault that lets you see everything everyone does?

Anyway, it has nothing to do with meshnets, so I don't know why you're even shitting up this thread.

As you might have seen from posts before, I am of the opinion that ZN is just about the only somewhat viable thing right now.

But it's more like a censorship-resistant slightly opaque (with TOR) meshed content distribution network, not the total anonymity thing you cyberpunks & drug peddlers dream of.

all I remember is someone making a logo and the project endede there

> It literally doesn't.
It literally is the only thing that has a good bunch of content.
> Have they fixed the core design fault that lets you see everything everyone does?
Yes, if you want to obscure that, you are simply using Tor.
> Anyway, it has nothing to do with meshnets
ZeroNet is literally forming a mesh network, that's what it has to do with it.

We're talking physical, layer 1 and 2, mesh networks, actual infrastructure that doesn't rely on current ISPs.

c-can I see the logo?

I'm talking mesh networks in general.

But as you prefer: Nothing but the internet worked between outside of single controlling entities. And the internet as a whole is not a mesh network.

Wireless mesh networks are at most mildly useful within an organization and even then they're band-aids.

I think it won't have a chance to succeed unless we at least get all good frequencies freed for starters. This alone I already don't expect to happen within our lifetime.
