yep.

It's pretty good

yo

I don't think so.

Install it

install gentoo

I've been using Arch for a while, and I think I'm going to try out Gentoo on my laptop. Any tips?

Install gentoo

That's what I'm doing, m8.
Any tips?

Get dwm

Use systemrescuecd instead of gentoo's cd

It's actually pretty cool and I learned a lot about hardware from installing it. It's not as bad if you have had previous experience with linux and can read the documentation properly. I recommend all anons who have some free time to try it.

yep.

>Paint
Proprietary shit

is there an alternative that is like dwm but with floating instead of tiled? As long as it's floating, I can add keyboard shortcuts, and under 10mb I will change to it.

I plan on doing the journey today finally. I've been using cloverOS on my thinkpad and really enjoying it. Now it's time to turn (pic related) into a gentoo workstation. I think I will be better for it.

People really over hype the install
So easy, just copy instructions from the manual you retards

install

dwm with floating mode: Modkey+f.

doesn't sound like something too hard to change in the source code, either, if you're too lazy to Modkey+f every time you startx.

Am i blind?
Is it on the suckless website? All the shortcuts

>is there an alternative that is like dwm but with floating instead of tiled?
just change the config.h file
static const Layout layouts[] = {
/* symbol arrange function */
{ "[]=", tile }, /* first entry is default */
{ ">", NULL }, /* no layout function means floating behavior */
{ "[M]", monocle },
};

to
static const Layout layouts[] = {
/* symbol arrange function */
{ ">", NULL }, /* no layout function means floating behavior */
};

Shortcuts are in config.h. Should automatically generate from config.def.h the first time you run make. Look for "static Key keys[]".

Most mottos are RTFM. Suckless's motto is "read the source".

man dwm

how to musl?

Unironically the best PowerPC distro.

Installing after the work. Is it good for a "install and forget" laptop I am using to watch movies on? I mean if I forget to update for 3 months, is Gentoo going to fuck me over?

yes

Th-thanks

which one produces faster binaries, clang or gcc?

whichever approved by stallman

>Use systemrescuecd
There is no git.

lsmod is a big help in finding out what modules your kernel will need. Maybe use prebuilt kernel to speed up the install and then compile your own kernel when you have X and a working web browser. Maybe make sure your HDD is set for GPT, partitions. Last time I installed Gentoo was ages ago but I had heaps of trouble with the EFI /boot partition. best to have your whole /boot partition as FAT32 rather than mounting the necessary FAT partition to /boot/efi. Or maybe it was the opposite.

I'm updating my thinkpad for the first time in 5 months, 3rd day now...

Compile on a real computer.

Well aware. My other (main) computer is also a laptop so not really worth it. The thinkpad is just a meme machine - libreboot, gentoo, i3, nvim, linux-libre, and gonna play around with Haskell next.

Protip:
KYS.

Please explain.

I did the same, and believe me, you won't regret it.
And the main reason you won't is portage with emerge

Gentoo

The gentoo cd has absolutely no impact of your final system. It can be replaced by any other Linux install, and systemrescuecd is a good choice (more/better tools).
If you want UEFI, the gentoo cd won't do it.

Also, if you already have a linux distrib and want to install Gentoo from it, you can.
