I donate to FOSS projects

>I donate to FOSS projects

Who else supports projects they actually use? I'll never pay for Sublime, but I've donated to the Debian project a few times.

>paying for software

Why not?

>I've donated to the Debian project

>donating to virgin SJW Debian developers
>not donating to the based Chad anti-Israel Linux Mint developers

Good, I also donate would donate more if I wasn't such a poorfag but I guess I make up for it by shilling free software in my free time.

this. what a waste

not debian, but I've donated to FFmpeg and I think you should too, its an amazing project

i donated to reactos and i dont even use it

>I'll never pay for Sublime, but I've donated to the Debian project a few times.
>I’d rather give money to a project with corporate sponsors, hardware donation and paid devs than to a single guy writing a tool I use everyday.

yeah, i've donated to libre office, and the FSF, i want to donate to vim but then if i said that people here would screech about (you)ganda

>than to a single guy writing a tool I use everyday.
Maybe if he didn't charge $80 for a text editor, more people would be willing to pay for it.

>Maybe if he didn't charge $80 for a text editor
So which is it? Poverty or hypocrisy? Supporting or paying over ideological reasons makes you the same as a vegan or a feminist.
Like FOSS? Feel like the sublime dev is ripping you off? How about you donate to a shitty FOSS text editor to bring it up to speed?

Also
>80 for license
Spare change sent ;)

>sublime
>better than the big 2 FOSS editors

Is what OP is using and so do I. Then again, I just want to edit files, not make weird text transformations or shoehorn one into an IDE

I don't even pay for porn, movies, or music :(

what do you think vim and emacsare for if not editing text files? it's like you've never actually used either of them.

I use vim regularly, but for small edits. Years ago I used it as my IDE. Nice experience but always lacking and had odd clashing here and there (keybindgs or actions for other file types, odd processing when handling HTML, etc)
I’ve tried a couple of emacs* but I just don’t like it.
And sublime is small, less powerful but always consistent and has good plugins. Meh good enough

I license stuff with redhat, does that count?

>years ago you used it as an IDE
why would you use a text editor as your IDE? you use the vim plugin for your IDE in your IDE, it's made for editing text (not just small edits), not to be a full development environment. whatever works for you works for you, but vim and emacs are so far beyond anything other text editors can do.

Great, you bought the bullets that killed Ian.

>why would you use a text editor as your IDE?
Just to see if I could. Nice learning experience

this is true. what languages did you use the IDE for?

Sure, I bought the "thank you" app from picrel guys.

Easy to use and good FOSS Android apps.

Yeah I've donated to suckless.org

I threw a couple dollars the way of Arch Linux

I donate a couple of euros every now and then to shit I like.

I went full IDE on it. C/C#. Python and PHP and some JS. Document redaction (context + markdown) and presentations.
I basically went pedal to the metal with. If people claimed that it could do X or Y I’ll go and set it up to do it. With both existing and clean profiles. So I have a good amount of experience with vim.

Good man

very nice, that probably took a lot of work. I rescind my comment about you not knowing it, but i still stand by my comment that sublime has nothing on vim for editing capability.

I haven't, but I donated to Trump which is afar bigger contribution to society.

>Supporting or paying over ideological reasons makes you the same as a vegan or a feminist.
Oh please, don't act like the only reason you bought sublime is because "hurr piracy is wrong"

I haven't donated money, but I in turn contribute to FOSS projects as a programmer.

It was a lot of work and besides the learning experience, I don’t think it’s worth the trouble. And indeed vim can do some really cool stuff, but I found myself using it only a fraction of the time I used vim.

>bothering to pirate fully functional software with endless trial.
Seriously?

>Seriously?
My exact reaction when you paid for that junk

Because I like that junk and the developer needs to eat.

Ι bought an openBSD tshirt
Its pretty neat

No he doesn't. If you are concerned about starvation then how about you donate to the poor Ugandans.

Because I don’t use vim that much.

The Ugandans are not the vim developers.

The more reason not to support them on a pseudo-tech related forum. At least the sublime dev ships his software

Too bad he can't do it without making it proprietary. Until then, starving Ugandans provide me with more freedom than he does.

Too bad Uganda freedoms doesn’t come with a stable set of non-clashing plugins

> feminism or veganism is bad
How about you return to your containment board?

Too bad sublime doesn't either

man even normies hate feminism/veganism nowadays. It's definitely not a Jow Forums tier mockering anymore.

I donate to eff and kde aside for some research funds that have nothing to do with software.
